It was a little weird in the college football word this weekend. Nine of the top 25 teams fell this week and six of those loses came at the hands of unranked teams. While I was sad to see Florida go down to Old Miss, I was happy to see that both the Texas and Penn State go about the business of winning. Both teams were properly rewarded with a rise in the rankings.

Speaking of being rewarded in the rankings, Alabama was well rewarded after collecting a victory in Athens this weekend against the Georgia Bulldogs. Moving up to number 2 in the nation in the AP poll, the Crimson Tide are at their highest rank in the polls since 1993. It looks like all of the hoopla about Nick Saban being the next Bear Bryant might just have some truth to it. His contract is now looking like money well spent.

With a favorable schedule of home games and only two more titans of the SEC in the guise of LSU and Auburn remaining, Alabama has put themselves in great position as long as they don't get ahead of themselves. After all, it is much better to be in the four through eight slots in the polls than it is to be in the one through three positions this early in the season.

While college football is always fun to follow, I like to support football of a different kind. On Sunday, Erica and I went to the FC Dallas game and watched the Hoops defeat DC United in a 3-0 beating. It was quite a good match to watch. The weather, while warm, was very nice with just enough of a breeze. FC Dallas put themselves in good position with the win and now sit only a few points away from a playoff appearance.
