1940 Himmler orders building of Auschwitz concentration camp, at Katowice
1980 Mount St Helens becomes active after 123 years

The daily Bild published copies of some of the 28 plans, which the head of Germany's federal archives, Hans-Dieter Krekamp, called "authentic proof of the systematically planned genocide of the Jews of Europe."
It said they were dated between 1941 and 1943 and stamped, "Waffen-SS and Police Construction Directorate." Some were signed by senior SS officials and one initialed by the head of the Nazi ideological corps, Heinrich Himmler.

I had the opportunity to view Mount St. Helens in 2007. It was an absolutely awesome sight. It is huge. When you look at the surrounding area, you can see still see remnants of the devastation.

One of my favorite childhood memories was when my Dad took me to Sun Rexall Drugs to buy our annual kite. My first kite was a kelly green Hi-Flyer. It was a paper kite just like this one except green with white writing. It had " Playmate of the Clouds" across the top. We had to make a tail to keep in the air and it couldn't be too heavy or it would ruin the trajectory.

One year I talked Dad into a box kite. It never flew as well as the original one so we never bought another one.

William Bell took us a long way in educating the blind.

Clearly Sir Elton John is one of the best songwriters of our time. He is renowned not only as being knighted by Queen Elizabeth, but has made his mark in pop, rock, movie sountracks.

Happy Birthday to the Cy Young winner, Tom Glavine.

Maimonides was the first person to write a systematic code of all Jewish law, the Mishneh Torah; he produced one of the great philosophic statements of Judaism. The Guide to the Perplexed; published a commentary on the entire Mishna; served as physician to the sultan of Egypt.Maimonides's full name was Moses ben Maimon. Otis demonstrating his elevator.

As a planet, Pluto was a real dog.And that's a bad thing? Everyone knows dogs are better than people. Now scientists say there may be something truly fishy about one the little world's three known moons.

Astronomers have announced they have evidence that, despite the bitterly cold conditions on the edge of the solar system, Pluto's moon Charon may have an underground ocean of liquid water, triggering speculation it could harbour marine life.

The water appears to be spewing up through cracks in the surface, producing spectacular geysers that instantly freeze, creating showers of ice.
.Finally, Ted Koppel was our link to the Iran Hostage Crisis. Every night millions of Americans watched to pray for the American hostages.

1997 Liggett admits cigarettes are addictive
Gee, I found cigarettes were addictive in 1979 when it took 21 hypnosis sessions to finally quit. Guess I was smarter than Liggett???? Besides it makes you look just so hip and sophisticated!
Dachau is a testament along with Auschwitz, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, and too many others of the depths of evil in which mankind can stoop.

Ozzie and Harriet was in Black and White and I remember not being able to watch it because I had to go to bed

My Dad liked Barney Miller.
Fred McFeely Rogers (March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003)
Yes, I admit it. I loved Mr. Rogers. He was a voice of gentle reason in a world inundated with cynicism and harshness. I miss him. My own child grew up with Mr. Rogers, but I don't think she appreciated him as much as I did.

This is a shining example of " No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" It just goes to show you the irony making nonviolence and peace synonymous with civil disobedience. Silencing a man does not convert him.

This is the infamous Tri- State Tornado
County Stadium where the Milwaukee Braves made their home.
