I Wonder If...

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Roasted Almond, Toffee Coffee, Peach and Very Berry.

Today, our yogurt cones are $1.85 all day long (regularly $2.72).

Tomorrow, all parfaits are on sale for $2.99 (regularly $3.69).

The new calendar is available in the store and will be posted on the blog on Monday. Also, the emails will go out to the email group on Monday.

I was reading through the JJ Pearce paper yesterday since the newspaper staff came by to solicit us for an add dropped on off at the store. It hasn't changed that much in my 11 year absence from the land of the mighty mustang. I did see one article that interested me. Apparently, someone is in the process of naming a new version of the seven wonders of the world.

You can vote for the new wonders, however, you have to join the site to do so. Still, I thought it was fun to take a look at the nominated structures. I am a bit of a purist. Here were my choices in no order:

The Pyramids of Giza, Petra, Stonehenge, the Easter Island Statues, the Great Wall, the Acropolis and the Colosseum.

Feel free to leave your picks in the comments section.

Movie Time

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Roasted Almond, Toffee Coffee, Peach and Very Berry.

Shake It Up! All shakes are $3.69 all day long (regularly $3.99-$4.62).

I'm having trouble deciding on weather or not to see several movies this summer. I don't go to nearly as many movies as I did just a few years ago. Part of the reason is the annoying use of cell phones by other patrons, but the larger part of the choice is the cost. At 9 to 10 dollars a ticket, I can wait until the movie comes out on DVD and buy the film for almost the same cost.

This summer, I know that there are two movies that I will see: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix and The Bourne Ultimatum. Added to that list is the good likely hood of seeing Ratatouille. I am on the fence about Live Free or Die Hard and The Transformers. So if anyone out there sees a good one, let me know because I am interested in the reviews.

Friday In the News: The Times of London reported in 2005 that a quintessentially family-run business in America is outsourcing jobs to Europeans to do its dirty work. The business in question was The Mafia. Apparently, you just can't get good help in America anymore. So American families are outsourcing contract work. Part of the problem is the decline of the American work ethic. One source within the Mob said, "In America, there isn't the same attachment to values-there's no respect anymore." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to William Gareth Jacob Busey, Sr. I really don't know what to say here except that the man is honored amongst my friends by having a condition named after him called the Gary Busey Disease. (Also, he was in D.C. Cab with Mr. T.) Want a free small (7 oz) yogurt? Name the episode (#633) of Gunsmoke which saw Gary Busey's character Harvey Daley be the last person killed in the series.

One of the interesting things about my wife and I is the age difference. We are just shy of 7 years apart which, most of the time, the age difference doesn't mean very much but, occasionally, can lead to conversations where the gap is apparent. After signing along to the end of Bush's "Glycerine" from the album Sixteen Stone on the radio last night, we discussed how she discovered the song in high school while the song actually came out while I was in high school. When the next song came on the radio, the following conversation took place.

Me: Hmmm, I don't recognize this song or the band.

Her: It's the Used.

Me: The band is the Used?

Her: Yes.

Me: It's different and a bit of a change from what we were listening to. Do you like them?

Her: I'm indifferent to the Used.

Me: Then I think I'll change it. (Flipped from the EDGE 102.1 to the BONE 93.3.) Ah, Phil Collins ("In the Air Tonight"), now this is a song that I can groove to.

Her: I love you. (A very nice way to say that I'm old.)

Bad Gas

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, German Chocolate Cake, Egg Nog and Boysenberry.

Yogurt Cone Day! All yogurt cones are $1.85 all day long (regularly $2.72).

Last night, Iran experienced some civil unrest as they began the process of rationing gas across the nation. It seems odd to think that a country that exports so much oil, over 4 million barrels a day, would have to ration gas; however, it seems that in over 30 years of oil dominance, Iran forgot to increase its refining capacity.

"Iranians are accustomed to gasoline at rock bottom prices. After a 25% hike in prices imposed May 21, gas sells at 38 cents per gallon."

So the next time you're feeling sad about your gas bill, just remember the harsh times faced by the Iranians. It's good to know that the energy crisis isn't just in the US or the west.

The Workout Returns

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, German Chocolate Cake, Egg Nog and Boysenberry.

All parfaits are $2.99 all day long (regularly $3.69).

After close to four months of marriage, my wife and I decided to reinstate our workout routines. It is interesting to me how easy it has been not to workout. It seems that other things just take up time and that spending time together hanging out and talking is easier than saying, "I'm going to go workout." That's why it is important that we are doing this together even if we are not working out together.

Despite the fact that I do feel better and more awake today, I still don't like getting into a workout routine. There is just something horrible about the first few weeks. It is sad to think that things that were easy just a few months ago are much harder now. Perhaps in a month or two, I'll be fully back on track. But for now, I'm feeling a little sore.

Quiz Day: Has American Culture Ruined You?

You Have Not Been Ruined by American Culture

You're nothing like the typical American. In fact, you may not be American at all.
You have a broad view of the world, and you're very well informed.
And while you certainly have been influenced by American culture (who hasn't?), it's not your primary influence.
You take a more global philosophy with your politics, taste, and life. And you're always expanding and revising what you believe.

Paying the Debt

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, Caramel Fudge, Egg Nog and Boysenberry.

I made my first trip down to the Ballpark this season on Sunday. After stopping into the Candlelite Inn for a quick dinner with my wife and my friend, I went to the game with my friend to pay off a bet from two years ago. As per the terms of the bet, I supplied the tickets to an Astros game and my friend supplied a new Astros hat for me to wear throughout the entire game. (I am a Cardinals fan and the last thing I would ever want to own is something from the Astros.)

It was nice to take a few hours out of the weekend and watch a game of baseball. Even though the Rangers aren’t good this year, they did manage to win the Silver Boot. Last night’s game didn’t really mean much, but the two teams put up a spirited fight and gave the fans a little bonus baseball. The Astros ended up taking the game, but at least with my hat, I looked like I was cheering on the winner.

Sunday's Special: Coke Floats are $2.99 all day long (regularly $4.62).

I went to the Angelika last night with a friend and watch the film Paprika. The movie was rather good, but it was not one for those who want to go and relax while watching a film. The visual stimulation pounds the viewer from the start and the sounds and sights are meant to disorient the viewer while pulling them in to a dangerous dream world. This film does serve as a great reminder of why anime can provide a movie experience unlike anything that traditional film making can render. If you want a film that will take you down the rabbit hole and through the other side, I recommend Paprika.

I've Been Warned

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Peanut Butter, Banana Macadamia Nut and Boysenberry.

All items on the sale rack are 50% off their lowest marked price all day!

Tomorrow, my wife and I are going to a game night with some of our friends. I am pretty excited about this, but I did get a warning when I said that I would love to go. Maybe it was the twinkle in my eye or the way that I sat up a little straighter when I heard the word game, but I got the warning to be on my best behavior and not be overly competitive.

For the most part, I like to think that I am fairly good about not being over the top. I am competitive and any of my friends or co-workers would attest to this fact. Nevertheless, I always try and remember that we are there to have fun. Of course, it is more fun to win. Therefore, I try to win. I don't get bent if I lose. I just try to figure out how to adjust my strategy so that I can win the next time. (This generally applies to all games save one...Monopoly. In Monopoly, I seek total domination. It is a game that couples should never play together and that if you are single, you should never play with couples unless they are on the same team.)

Friday in the News: According to the Los Angeles Times, America's most famous painter, Thomas Kinkade, the painter of light, can be extremely competitive. In fact, to show his dominance over other brands of popular commercial art, he once urinated on a statue of Winnie the Pooh at Disneyland, saying, "This one's for you, Walt." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Bruce Lorne Campbell. Perhaps one of the greatest B-list actors of our time, Mr. Campbell is well know in some circles for his role as Ash in the Evil Dead series and the Army of Darkness movie. Cheap High Speed

AT&T is offering DSL for 10 dollars to first time customers. I meant to mention this the other day but was too excited about finding a new home. The deal is not easy to find; however, this article should help anyone who is interested. Also, I have read that they are required to offer naked DSL, DSL without phone service, within the next six months for new customers. I;m pretty sure that they will wait until the last minute to offer this service.

The problem with DSL has always been the need for a home phone. If it wasn't for that requirement, I would use DSL. Since the offer for naked DSL probably won't be available until well after our move, it seems like cable will be the option we choose for high speed internet. While we will lose the cable TV that we currently get for free, it will be nice to be able to check the score, email, pay the bills and other fun things from the comfort of home.

We Have a Winner

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Peanut Butter, Banana Macadamia Nut and Boysenberry.

Today is Cone Day! All yogurt cones are $1.85 (regularly $2.72) all day long.

After a few month of poking around and one weekend of heavy looking, my wife and I have settled on an apartment in Addison. We will move in at the end of July for what we hope is our final apartment move. Conveniently, the new place is located near our storage unit which should make our move easier. The only thing left is to start packing up the old place at the beginning of July.

The nice thing about packing up the old place early is that we will be able to take some of it to storage and create a little more space in the meantime. Thankfully, space won't be an issue in the new place. Since we will move from 748 sq. ft. to 1090 sq. ft., we will gain a lot of extra storage and an additional bedroom. The cat will have a little more room to roam.

Juneteenth

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Toffee Nut, Butter Pecan, Banana Macadamia Nut and Boysenberry.

Today is Teacher Day! All teachers can show their school employee ID and receive a small yogurt for only 99 cents.

Today marks the annual holiday of Juneteenth. This uniquely Texas holiday celebrates the emancipation of the Texas slaves on June 19th, 1865. General Gordan Granger of the Union landed on Galveston Island and issued General Order No. 3. With the help of 2,000 Union troops, the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation began in Texas on this day.

Although it was originally a Texas holiday and became an official holiday in Texas in 1980, thirteen other states also now list it as an official holiday.

Quiz Day: How Real Are You?

By the looks of things at the store, most of us remembered to thank our fathers this year. We had a very busy weekend with lots of cakes and gifts picked up on Saturday and Sunday. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Father's Day.

As the summer gets ready to start full swing, we'll be experimenting with a few new items in the bakery. Over the next few weeks, you'll see a couple of new items appearing in the cases. As you try them, please let us know what you think about them. We look forward to hearing your feedback.

My wife and I spent a portion of ours searching for a new apartment which is a task that we expect to have wrapped up this evening. She was also kind enough to watch the Yankees game with me last night. I think that I might have had more fun that she did; however, it was really nice to have someone there to watch the game with me. I guess that was kind of my husband day present. Thanks.

Word of the Day

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Coffee Royal, Grasshopper, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry.

Today's special is a free small yogurt for those with the word of the day: Boondoggle

Tomorrow, we are open from 12 PM to 6 PM to serve you for any of your Father's Day needs.

I glanced at the weather this morning an saw seven straight days with rain. It seems as if the odd weather pattern is set to continue for North Texas. I'm happy with the cooler weather and the rain is nice too. I can't help but think that the rain will eventually end, but it doesn't seem to be slowing down yet. To think, it was just last year that we couldn't get a drop.

Western Bagel seems to have had a little trouble with our order this week; however, the bagels have arrived. Unfortunately, they did not ship a case of the bagels so we are missing the Blueberry variety. We do have the pita, English Muffins and the other bagels (Sweet Wheat, Cinnamon, White, Onion and Perfect 10) available.

Also, La Tortilla was delivered today. We have the low-carb onion, wheat, and garlic in addition to the Tomato Basil and the Rosemary.

Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, no XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

The Pita bread from Western Bagel has arrived. HOWEVER, the remainder of the shipment, the bagels and the English Muffins, will not be in stock until tomorrow. These were sent separately this week.

We finished Veronica Mars Season 2 last night. We started the show with 6 episodes left around 8:30 with the intent of watching two or three episodes. But the show is just too good to let go of when you’re that close to the end. It's sad to know that the show was canceled this year, but I'm glad that we have one more season to watch. It's like my own personal Sopranos.

While this season was a little bit weaker as far as each individual episode was concerned, the mystery arch for the full year was better than the first season. I love a show that can keep me guessing and entertained. I can't help but think that season three will suffer from the move to college as Veronica and her friends move on from high school. It happened with Buffy (I'm sure that some would disagree). It could happen to Veronica.

I was glad to see that there was some excitement over the upcoming holiday flavors. Thanks for the comment. We do read the comments each day so if you have something to say, then pleas share with us.

Special Delivery

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Coffee Royal, Grasshopper, Strawberry Shortcake and Juicy Raspberry.

All the cones are $1.85 all day long (regularly $2.77).

We have just received our shipment of Walden Farms. We now have have all varieties of the dressing and dips on our shelves. We also go the Curb Bites with Hoodia back in as well.

Yesterday was one of the easier moves that I've ever had. I admit that my wife has done all of the cleaning and packing of the old apartment so I was really just there for my back which makes it a much nicer process. Two truck load and two car loads to the storage unit and we were done in an hour and one half. So the easy part is finished and we've got about a month to rest before packing up our current apartment. The nice thing about the move yesterday is that I feel like I got a little bit of a workout. While I was tired last night, I awoke feeling energized today.

The last few days have been very busy in the morning. Today, we have received 4 shipments already. It always seems to come in at the same time and when we have the least amount of help. Nevertheless, the store shelves are stocked again and the yogurt flavors are ready to cycle through once more. Speaking of yogurt, we got in the holiday flavors on this shipment so we will have a limited run of the Pumpkin, Egg Nog and Candy Cane over the course of the next month. Stay tuned to the blog so you don't miss out on your favorite flavors.

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Coffee Royal, Grasshopper, Strawberry Shortcake and Juicy Raspberry.

All parfaits are $2.99 today (regularly $3.69). They will go quickly so come in early.

Today is the first of two moving days for my wife and I. Tonight, we are moving her stuff out of her old apartment into storage for the next 45 days. Next month, we will move into our new apartment. We haven't found our new place yet, but we'll know in the next week or two.

Not that moves are ever fun, but I don't think that they are that bad. It's been a yearly ritual for me since I first moved to college. The new apartment should be the last one. Which means that I might only have one more yearly move left to go. So tonight, we'll pack up the car with the boxes and move the few pieces of furniture to storage. Next month, we'll get ready to do it again.

Everyday when I open up the USA Today or Turn on the news channels, it seems that the race for the White House is already in full swing. At least, that's how it appears when the coverage is not focused on Paris Hilton. The coverage seems to come earlier and earlier every time an election comes around. Thankfully, the entertainment value of the elections is also increasing.

This year there are two new political games that are free to download. The first is Presidential Pong. This is "a game of Pong using caricatures of prominent 2008 presidential candidates as paddles. Each candidate possesses a power-up move based on some factoid that is explained in varying degrees of coherency."

There is another game coming out next week called The Redistricting Game where you take part in the practice of gerrymandering of congressional districts to affect the outcome of elections. I'm looking forward to this one. It should cause quite a stir on Capital Hill. (Thanks to GameSpot.com for the news.)

Maybe these games aren't for everyone; however, I can promise you a review in the future because these are right up my ally. I love politics and enjoy playing games. The Pong game is a bit of a novelty and looks humorous. The Redistricting Game is interesting to me. It will be fun to get in on one of the shadier practices in government.

Today the Sale Rack is 50% off the lowest marked price of each item. We put a lot of new items on there this week so you can come in and get some great deals.

Sometimes we humans like to do things because there is a challenge involved. We like to go beyond the ordinary ho-hum and reach down deep to experience the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat. I think that even people who might normally shy away from challenges might welcome a chance to see if they can rise to the occasion.

I personally enjoy when things are harder; however, I do have a few exceptions to that rule. I caught a couple of minutes of the National Spelling Bee last night on ESPN. While I applaud the children who took part in this event, this is certainly one challenge that I would let pass me by. You simply have to know your own limitations and spelling is without a doubt one of mine. This was proved by hearing the first five words given to the contestants. I knew one out of five. Congratulations to the children, but I’ll stick to other more interesting feats that I can actually spell.

The winner of this year's spelling bee: Evan M. O'Dorney (13)
Winning Word: Serrefine-a small forceps for clamping a blood vessel

Last night I had dinner with the in-laws at Mimi's Cafe in Arlington. There used to be only one Mimi's around and that was in Allen, but they have expanded their presence in the Dallas/Fort Worth area over the last few years. The best thing on the menu is the grill cheese sandwich; however, at this Mimi's there was no grill cheese. :( So, I went with a salad, muffin and cup of soup. Yummy!

When dinner was over, we went back to her parent’s house and watched the new kitten play around for awhile. Kittens are dopey and kind of funny like a small child when they are first learning to walk. This kitten seemed to be content on wrestling with the phone cord that was hanging down the floor. For about 20 minutes, it attacked and tangled with the code, while occasionally being distracted by a piece of lint that was near by. It provided a fair amount of humor.

This particular one caught my interest as it focused on a couple that has created a website that allows for people to make micro-loans to individuals across the globe. This site is economics and philanthropy united together.

"Kiva.org lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back."

One of the great things about Kiva.org is that you are given the ability to have an impact on someone around the world by lending them as little as 25 dollars. You’re not asked to give large amounts and you can do as little as donate and forget or you can follow the progress of your loan.

Last night was nice in that I got to have dinner with my father who had popped into town for business. Although the weather caused a delay that saw him an hour late to dinner, it was nice to be able to spend some time with him outside of the once a year visit. After dinner my wife and I did a little shopping and headed towards the birthday party for the evening.

This is where I have to say that I am glad that I am married. On the way to the party, my wife asked me how my ankle that I hurt at the birthday party to weekends ago was feeling. It wasn't feeling good and I was very tired after dinner; however, left to my own discretion, I would have gone bowling and dealt with the consequences later. She didn't try to persuade me not to go. She simply asked if I was going to take it easy on the ankle.

I'm not really a take it easy kind of person. I would have gone and bowled a few games and probably hurt my ankle even more. Thankfully, it simply took her asking if I really thought that was a good idea. It really wasn't so we went home and I iced the ankle down again and we turned in early for the evening.

Quiz Day: What Does Your Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Say About You?

What Your Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwich Means

Your eating style is gluttonous. If you like something, you're going back for seconds... no matter how full you are!

You don't really have a sweet tooth. If you go for dessert, you tend to go for something light.

Your taste in food tends to be pretty flexible. You may crave sushi one night, and your favorite childhood recipe the next.

You belong to a class that's all your own. You resist rules and traditions of any sort.

You are a tough person who isn't afraid to live life fully. There isn't a lot that scares you.

Precise and controlled, you can be a bit anal retentive when it comes to how you like things. You're definitely a perfectionist.

Like the Energizer Bunny

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butter Brickle, German Chocolate Cake, Marshmallow and Very Berry.

Today, you can ship to any of the lower 48 states (UPS ground only) for $6.99. Come into the store and pick out your items, then let us ship for you.

This weekend, we started making a new product in the store: Turnovers. We currently have them available in cherry and apple and will be able to also make peach, blueberry, blackberry or cream cheese with a minimum order of six. This is just one of several new items that we are developing in our bakery during the summer.

Boy, some weekends just leave you more tired than the week itself. It seems like the last few weeks for both the store and my wife and I have been pretty busy. This weekend's wedding that was followed by a birthday party and then a grill out and now a dinner followed by another birthday party this evening has left me a little on the tired side.

Well, my wife's former roommate is getting married today. Almost three months to the day after our wedding. We had an excellent rehearsal dinner last night at Blue Mesa Grill. The food was great, but the best part had to be the baked sweet potato chips. Awesome. I'll be heading out a little early today so that I can get home and make myself presentable for the wedding. Congratulations to Jessica and Patrick.

Friday in the News: Lady Bird Johnson said she learned a lot about how to present herself as a sophisticated lady from LBJ's girlfriends. LBJ had many, many, many affairs, secret and not so secret. Lady Bird said, "You have to understand, my husband loved people. All people. And half the people in the world are women." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)
