Today's Flavors
Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Peanut Butter, White Chocolate Raspberry, and Butterscotch.

Well, the beach looks nice. However, we all woke up to a different scene this morning. I happen to like cold weather, but I mean 40-50 degrees-jeans and sweatshirt weather.I'm not fond of cabin fever, ice, freezing rain, and frostbite.

In spite of all this We are lonely so as the ice melts, come warm us up with your friendly faces.

At Weight Watchers this past Saturday, the room was packed. I have come to expect this every January. It is the annual commitment by many people to lose weight. I meet similar crowds at LA Fitness . The parking lot is full and exercise machines are harder to come by. We as Americans have a way to set-up times to eat healthy. It may be before a wedding, swimsuit time is coming, or New Years. Some people eat; healthy all the time and some people diet. Some people walk, some jog, and some run however one thing is true for all of us, we do it because we want to find a way to live longer and healthier . Sugarless deLite carries so many ways to help you. Check out our shelves for dozens of items that are our local exclusives. Enjoy life. Eat well and make Sugarless deLite a part of your regular routine . By the way unlike the gym or Weight Watchers no membership is required.

History was made on this day and Sugarless deLite brings it to your palate. It all started back in 1921, when school teacher and local candy shop owner Christian Kent Nelson was inspired by a little boy’s inability to decide between ice cream and a candy bar. And — Eureka! — the idea for ESKIMO PIE® ice cream bars was born.It was an immediate success locally, and in July 1921.n July 1921 he partnered with Russell C. Stover (the candy maker) to market and produce it and renamed it the 'Eskimo Pie.

So what does this have to do with Sugarless deLite and eating right? I am so glad you asked. If you are watching your calories and fat, we have a combination one..two... punch for your palate. Unlike Christian Nelson, you don't have to angst over ice cream or a candy bar. For 2.4 points you can have both. Have a 7 oz frozen yogurt from Sugarless deLite for 70 calories,(1.4 WW points,6g net carbs, and NO FAT and NO SUGAR. Still wants something? Have one of our chocolate bars-only 1 Point.

Today in History is Unprecedented

How can we describe this historic moment with the appropriate gravity and celebration that it is due. It is amazing to see witness the excitement and optimism, the unity and the hope that is riding on this inauguration day.

"Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals." Martin Luther King Jr.

Today in America we celebrate.

Cones $ 2.08, regularly $2.77. Please request the daily special.

I really do not remember the day but I know the story. My family was in the grocery business in Downtown Atlanta from 1918-1964. Many Saturdays me and my twin brother would go to the store to "help". (Help like a 9 year old do in a warehouse) My dad said to me he wanted me to met someone. As most kids would think, I did not wanted to meet anyone. I prefer putting eggs in cartons.(For people who do not know chickens do not lay eggs in cartons that is why a 9 year old is good to take them from a large case and put them in a small carton. Great work if you can get it at 9) I was introduced to Daddy King and Martin Luther King Jr. who were buying supplies for the Ebenezer Baptist Church. I said hello and went back to putting eggs in cartons.

Today as I reflect on that meeting, I remind myself how much things have changed in this country. Number one, I was raised right. Being in business , I learned at a young age that customers come in all colors, shapes and sizes; yet they are all customers and due respect. Treat your customer right and you will do OK. Number 2 lesson for people who grew up in the 60's-70's is to never forget how far our great country has come. We know that "the mountaintop" was not easily reached but America is better for it. Celebrate.

Daily I am greeted by concerned customers who are worried about the economy and ask me " How's your business?" question. Sugarless deLite is doing fine. I remind everyone that the life blood of any business small or large are the people who trade with you. We all have made cut backs to get through harder times. My suggestion is cut back on some the trips to the Walmarts and chains and support the small businesses . No, I understand that some trips are needed in hard times but check out the small resturants and small places that need your business more than ever. Hard times do not last for ever and as we start our Twentyth I remind you of how important each of our customer is to Sugarless deLite.

As many of you have seen. Brad has left our company after nearly 10 years with us. Brad is missed everday by Stacey and I. Do not be surprised to see him filling in some days when I need him. There is no better person than Brad

Most people now are looking at and reading labels closely. Consumers are counting grams of fat, fiber, and trans fats like never before. Consumer Reports magazine had a report that warned consumers that they must read beyond the Whole Grain info on the label. The product shown in the article was a new whole grain Fig Newton. True to the label , it was whole grain but loaded with fat and sugar which made the cookie in the opinion of Consumer Reports an unhealthy product.

My thoughts have always been that a little bit of knowledge can at times be harmful. Some customer will look at the Alternative Bagels from Western Bagel and only be interested in the Perfect 10 or reject any bread products at all . The Perfect 10 bagel with 18 grams of protein, low fat, and 10 net carbs is a great choice ; however it should be noted that the Western Bagel line that Sugarless deLite carries is the alternative line made by the company. So if you are trying to eat healthy, pick-up any of these great bagels and read the fiber and protein content and enjoy.

We've come to the close of my tenure at Sugarless deLite. While I won't say that it is the last time that anyone will ever see me up here, it is the last time that I'll be up here as the store manager. After all, it is hard to just up and leave a place that you've spent 1/3 of your life. So, I'll be in for a weekend or two in the future, but my future now lies elsewhere.

I have to thank Rick and Stacey for everything that they have done over the years for me and my family. Two nicer people do not exist. I wish them, their family, and the business well. Their support over the years has been fantastic. It is a rarity now to find a business where you become friends with the owners and feel like you are a member of the family. Erica and I have truly been blessed.

Leaving here will be somewhat like leaving Cheers. I know that I will always be welcome back, but I also know that it is time to move forward. Over the next couple of months, I'll have a chance to catch a breath and finalize a new direction. It will be an exciting time. To everyone that I have had the pleasure of helping over the years, thank you.

I had to throw in a congratulations to the Florida Gators for their victory over Oklahoma last night in the BCS Championship game. Thank you for making the college football season a little more bearable. Texas might not have won the national championship, but they win their bowl game and finish ahead of Oklahoma. Besides, 3 out of my 4 teams had a really good year. (Four college football favorites: Texas, Florida, Notre Dame, Penn State.)

Also, if I had a vote, the top five would have looked like this today:

1. Utah
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. USC
5. Oklahoma

Parfait Day! All parfaits are on sale for $2.99 today (regularly $3.99) when you ask for the special. If you haven't tried the parfaits, they are a wonderful low calorie, 150, treat.

The bagels, pita, and English Muffins are all back in stock from Western Bagels. We are completely restocked on all of these products. We should also be back on our regular Thursday schedule. We have all varieties on hand (Blueberry, Sweet Wheat, Cinnamon, White, and Onion, and Perfect 10) as well as the pita and English Muffins. Get your fresh breads today.

The update for the website is on hold. We tried to make some changes to the front page, but we could not easily make the changes. So, we've got what we've got for another few months until we have a collection of additional changes that need to be made. That way, we'll get them all done at once.

I'm ready for tax season now. I picked a new file system yesterday to help organize the paperwork. I've never had to do this before, but I've found that my tax returns have gotten more complicated over the last few years. So, we invested in a file holder and 25 hanging files made of 100% post-consumer waste. :)

While I probably won't be able to file until mid-February because of all of the paper work that I will need to collect, I should have a decent idea of the return/dues by the end of the month. Some odd part of me has always enjoyed doing my taxes. That might be because I've always managed to at least eek out a return, but even without the return, I just like working the numbers.

Laying out the paper work will be one of my tasks next week with my time off. I've also got some straightening of the apartment to do since we've decided to stay where we are until the end of the lease. This one is a long story, but we're content to stay through July and then will be happy to find a new place there after. Then, we will be very happy to find a new place.

Digital Age

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Maple Nut, New York Cheesecake, and Banana Macadamia Nut.

50% off of all cake slices. (Limit 2 per customer.)

Erica and I joined the digital age two nights ago. We picked up our converter box at Target for 10.81 after the government coupon and tax was applied. After plugging it into the TV, we immediately noticed the slightly improved picture quality and several new channels. (Included a nice weather channel set from Channel 5.) Of course, we also lost several channels as well. The new converter box has a lot of nifty little features like program guides and digital sound.

However, the squiggles and fuzz of the old analog set-up has been replaced with the garbled pixels of the digital age. I for one prefer slight fuzz to a constantly rearranging pixel set. I have a feeling that, when the masses get converted, there will be a lot of talk about this. I'm not sure that the digital age will be all that it is cracked up to be. But, we don't really watch much TV at any rate, so we'll leave that to other people to decide.

If you don't have cable or satellite TV and have yet to by your converter box, you've got about 5 more weeks until you'll need one. On February 17th, the US is going digital whether we like it or not. If you haven't gotten your coupon and want the government to pick up part of the tab, you can go here to apply.

While we don't watch a lot of broadcast TV, we do watch shows on DVD a few times a week. We started watching How I Met Your Mother last night. Over the last three years, I've caught about 5 episodes of this show, which was enough to know that it is funny. I was glad to see that the first three episodes that we watched last night didn't disappoint. This is a show that has a great ensemble cast and sharp writing. We're looking forward to finishing the first disk tonight.

I also watched The Chase last night. This has got to be one of my mindless movie favorites of all time. (My number one mindless favorite is Starship Troopers.) If you are looking for a great movie of cinematic quality worthy of an Oscar, move on past this one. But, if you are looking for an enjoyable, non-sensible film to blow through an hour and 1/2 of the day, put this one in and relax.

The movie follows Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson as Sheen's character holds Swanson's captive and tries to make a run for Mexico. About 80 minutes of the 88 minute of this film takes place in the stolen car that is running down the freeway with the police and news crews in tow. The acting is decent, the dialog is OK, but the whole of the movie is greater than the sum of its parts. Movie Review: 4 out of 5.

The ice didn't do too much damage yesterday, but it did enough to knock out the power at the store for 1 1/2 hours. Oddly, the best business of the day came during the power outage. As long as there is light, we are able to work under most circumstances. Thankfully, the power came back on right at 5 PM, so we were able to finish out the day without having to close earlier.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get most of the work done that I was planning on the computer. I'm going to make another try for it today. Since the Merlin's are back in the store, it should give me a little more time to work out the details of the changes to the website.
