Summer Vacation

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butter Brickle, German Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Malt and Very Berry.

Today's special is Parfait Day! All of our parfaits are on sale for $2.99 (regularly $3.69). This is first come, first serve so don't delay.

The bagels, pita, and English Muffins will not arrive today because of the Memorial Day holiday. They will be delivered tomorrow around 11:30 AM. We do have some of the bagels, pita, and English Muffins available in the store now if you need them today.

You can tell that summer is quickly approaching because of the number of people that are getting their summer vacations planned out. Some of the customers that I have spoken with have already been on a trip or are leaving in the next week or two to start their holidays. Other than a quick shot down to Austin, I don't think that the Mrs. and I have anything concrete. If anyone is doing something fun, feel free to share by leaving a comment.

One thing that I failed to mention about my weekend was the Saturday night event. One of my friends, who happens to be proud alumna of Sugarless deLite, had her birthday party. The event was a surprise midnight skate party with a 70's/80's theme. I remember that all of us seemed to have a wonderful time. I was, however, happy to read in the emails yesterday that I was not the only one who was still suffering from the event.

It seems that the scraps and bruises that you collect as a youth out on the rink are a little different when you collect them in your late 20's and early 30's. One look at my ankle would well prove this point. With all of the falls, it was still fun to relive a part of our youth even if it was just to serve as a poignant reminder of how much older we really are.

Thanks for the participation on the quiz yesterday. It seems like there are a lot of Annie Halls out there.

Rested

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butter Brickle, Peanut Butter, Vanilla Malt and Very Berry.

Today, we have our Yogurt Cones on sale for $1.85 (regularly $2.77).

There was no update yesterday on the blog because, while the store was open from 12 PM to 6 PM, I was at home sleeping in and enjoying a little time off. The traditional weekend is a rare beast for a Sugarless deLite employee so I certainly jumped at the opportunity to take the back to back days off. And what does one do on a rainy Memorial Day off? My wife and I opted to curl up on the couch after breakfast at noon and settle in for a 12 show marathon of Veronica Mars. Now, we only have six episodes left in season 2.

Of course, the day of rest was well deserved after trudging through the mud all day Sunday at Scarborough. It actually turned out to be a decent day once we got down there, but the fair grounds were a mess and our shoes paid a heavy price. Still, the rain made the crowd a little lighter than it might have otherwise been and kept the temperatures cool.

More Morrissey Please

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Pecan Praline, Orange Vanilla and Pina Colada.

Tonight, we have a buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) special on our frozen yogurt from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Last night, I went with one of my friends to the Morrissey concert at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas. Before I get to my short review, I have a little rant.

About the Drive and the Lines:

The 20 minute drive took one hour because people have apparently forgotten or have never known how to drive in the rain. The parking was 10 dollars and the directions to the parking lot were horrible. The lines at the concert to have your ID checked were ridiculously set up. There were two of them. One line had three people checking and the other had one person. Needless to say, we got in the line that had one person and didn't notice the three people checking the other line until we were right at the end of our line.

About the other concert patrons:

Once we were securely at the venue and the show began, there was the joy of dealing with everyone else who was there. The biggest problem that we ran into is the ability to see. I don't generally have a problem with this; however, my friend is shorter so we stood towards the back of the crowd. With a 5 foot buffer in front of us, she was able to peek between the heads to catch glimpses of Morrissey. At least she was until people decided that the open area was a great place to come and stand for their own viewing pleasure or unnecessary displays of affection. Of course, there also has to be that crazy dancer guy...and there was.

The advent of technology has made viewing an issue for me as well. Gone are the days of an occasional flash photo from a camera that was secretly brought into the venue. These days have been replaced with the ever present camera and video phone that let people hold their phones above their head for minutes at a time recording bits and pieces of the show and ruining everyone’s view behind them. Furthermore, the number of people calling and talking on their phones during the show is something that no one had to deal with 10 years ago.

The Show: (actual review)

The Morrissey concert itself was a wonderful event. He provided a high energy show with a bit of playful banter to the crowd. The band rocked a little harder than expected. Instead of over powering his vocals, they actually worked as a great accent. You could tell that they enjoyed being on stage and playing the show and the audience enjoyed the show. The crowd was a mix of those in their early 20's to their late 40's and early 50's.

He surprised us by opening with the classic song from The Smiths called The Queen is Dead. Some artists that go solo after being part of an influential band might refuse to acknowledge their previous work; however, Morrissey embraces it and mixed in four or five songs from his days as The Smiths front man. His solo works were a pleasant mix of his new songs and his early classics. The inclusion of Every Day is Like Sunday brought a smile to our faces and a sing along from the crowd. With the closing song of How Soon Is Now?, he cemented a great show. He came back on for a final two songs and left us cheering again. (4 1/2 out of 5)

As an added bonus, I got to take a tour of an emergency veterinarian clinic last night after the show. It was cool seeing all of the different supplies and hearing about what goes on behind the doors of the pet ER. Thanks Brandi.

Movie Review: The day of the pirate has come and gone and the voyages of Capitan Jack Sparrow and his crew have reach and end...or have they? After a near three hour affair of computer graphic driven story lines, Jerry Bruckheimer's trademarked big action sequences and more than a handful of new character introductions, we're left with this: We may not have seen the last of Capitan Jack Sparrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a fun film. It is not great. It is not as witty as the first installment. It is not something that I will rave about; however, it is a fun film that once again manages to make the 2 hour and 48 minutes seem like 2 hours. It has some wonderful in jokes and pop culture references and does a decent job of bring the trilogy to a close if not an end. At the heart of it, there is once again to much action and not quite enough acting. If you liked the first and moderately enjoyed the second, you will have a good time with the third as a mindless and fun amusement park ride of a movie. (3 out of 5)

Friday in the News: When drug dealers in Brixton, South London, started burying their stashes underground to keep them safe from police, an unexpected problem emerged: Squirrels on Crack. The "crack squirrels," who also stash things underground, quickly get addicted and go looking for their next fix. One Brixton resident, who saw a squirrel rooting through her flowerbeds, reported that "its eyes looked bloodshot, but it kept on desperately digging...It seemed to know what it was looking for." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Richard Frank Oznowicz. Frank Oz has acted and directed but may be best known for his work as a puppeteer. A staple of my childhood, Mr. Oz is responsible for characters such as Ms. Piggy, Fozzie the Bear, Cookie Monster, Grover and greatest of all, Jedi Master Yoda. He also directed the classic film What About Bob? Mr. Oz provided the voice of Yoda in all five of the Star Wars films that featured him as a character. Want a free small (7 oz) yogurt? Give us the name of the person who provided the voice of Yoda in the radio dramatizations of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

F.Y.I. Today is the 30th anniversary of the debut of Star Wars in the movie theaters. In its first weekend, it grossed 1.5 million dollars on 43 screens. It would go on to make 775 million dollars and become one of the most beloved franchises of all time. At lease it was until Lucas set out to ruin his own legacy, but that is a different story all together.

At the World's End

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Pecan Praline, Orange Vanilla and Pina Colada.

Today is Shake Day! All shakes are $3.69 all day long (regularly $3.93-$4.62).

The bagels, English Muffins and pita have arrived! We have all varieties on hand (Blueberry, Sweet Wheat, Cinnamon, Onion, White and Perfect 10). Come and get yours today. Perfect for Weight Watchers® or anyone who wants to add something healthy to their daily intake.

Also, we got two new types of chocolate from the makers of Chocolite and the Curb Bites. The first is a Pecan Cluster that is called a Beauty Bite. This one has Alpha Lapoic in it to help maintain and support healthy skin. The second is a Cacao Almond Fudge that is called a Healthy Bite. This one has plant sterol esters which are intended to help promote and support good heart health. Regardless of whatever health benefits that they may have, they just flat out taste really good.

It's finally here. The last few weeks, the excitement has been building in my household. I think that at this point, my wife is even more excited than I am to see the "final" installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series. We're going to be pushing it to get to the show on time because Disney decided to release the film earlier which changed the show time for the special event that we are attending; however, we'll be there.

It is the first of many events for this weekend. In some ways, it will be kind of like college again with something going on every night. But, if I recall correctly, most of the nights in college were just spent hanging out. This weekend is actually going to and from for the myriad of events. It's a good thing that I'm taking Memorial Day off (the store will be open 12 PM to 6 PM) to recoup before a barbeque that evening. I’m going to need some rest after all of this.

Neptune Planet

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Butterscotch, Orange Vanilla and Pina Colada.

Today is Teacher Day! All teachers can show their ID to receive a small yogurt for only 99 cents. It's just another way that we like to say thank you to one of our greatest resources.

The Cowboys and the Dallas/Fort Worth area scored a major win yesterday in securing the 2011 Super Bowl for the new Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Of course, the Super Bowl is a huge deal economically for the area with one week revenue of 300 to 400 million, but it's also a big deal for national and worldwide exposure. It should be a pretty interesting event and it might just be the beginning of more high profile events at Jerry World.

So now that the Cowboys have won the bid, there is only a couple of things that I know that I need to do to make this a successful Super Bowl for me. The first is to save up 2000 to 4000 dollars over the next two years. The second is to win the ticket lottery to actually purchase tickets at the face value that is currently projected to be 900 dollars. I'm not greedy. I just want two. Although, I would take four tickets if I could get them.

Yes, I want tickets to the Super Bowl. I am not ashamed to admit this fact or the fact that if I were to get said tickets at face value, that I would sell them for two to three times that amount. Say hello to a down payment on a car or a firm start to a college fund. There is no other event that has the type of return on investment that the Super Bowl does. Besides, if you go to the game, you would miss all of the commercials and that is what the Super Bowl is really all about after all.

On a side note, I would like to bid a fond farewell to Veronica Mars. The series finally was last night and apparently caused quiet the uproar. I haven't watched season three yet, and we just started going through season two last night, but I do know that for the 30 or so episodes that I have seen, this is one of the best shows to appear on television in the last 20 years. Working under the assumption that the show remains canceled: Thanks for the greatness Veronica Mars!

Clean Bill

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, Butterscotch, Orange Vanilla and Pina Colada.

Today is Cone Day! All cones are only $1.85 today (regularly $2.77).

This morning I had the second of my tri-annual teeth cleanings. I have never hid my dislike of the doctor's office or dentist chair, but I have come to see them as a necessary evil. I got a clean bill of health for the second time in a row and a little bit of praise from the hygienist as well. It is good to see that my religious devotion to flossing has paid dividends.

That being said, I still get a little nervous when I know that I have an appointment. Although I know longer feel like I am cramming for a test when I am brushing and flossing the night before, I do have those little thoughts. The ones that say, "What if this isn't enough?" So I inevitably end up staying up late with nervous energy and general unrest. However, all of this restlessness usually translates to a wonderful nights sleep the following evening so I am looking forward to hitting the pillow tonight and sleeping the night away with clean teeth. :)

I got to go to my second FC Dallas game yesterday and watch the Hoops defeat Real Salt Lake 2-1. The match was well played with the exception of a card happy referee. While many Americans don't understand the world’s obsession with soccer, I think that most of them could appreciate the beauty of some of the goals. Thankfully, I was able to witness such a goal in the 82nd minute yesterday by a FC Dallas defender. It was a brilliant strike from outside the box that was placed perfectly in the back corner of the goal.

Both times, I have been impressed with the quality of Pizza Hut Park. It truly is a world class soccer venue even if it is half of the size in terms of capacity of many of the larger world clubs. The great thing about its smaller size is that the crowd does not get swallowed by the venue. Thus, the 16,576 in attendance last night actually felt like a crowd that was close to a sell out. It makes for a better match when you can feel the crowd get into the game like they did last night.

Making It Look Pretty

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, Butterscotch (after 4:30 PM), Roasted Almond and Peach.

This weekend, we have all of our pecan pies on sale for $14.99 (regularly $19.99).

One thing that I forgot about in planning out the busy stretch of May was the soccer game on Sunday. Thankfully, my wife reminded me about it. So it seems that after a lazy night last night with a little grocery shopping and a movie, we're back into a busy weekend with a birthday party and a soccer game.

We watched Big Fish yesterday. I had never seen this film even though I was always interested in viewing it. It was a very good film. I love Tim Burton's directing style and his vivid colors. Most of all, it was a love story wrapped in a fantasy and that made for good viewing. Instead of being overly sappy, it released the sentiment in measured dose, building over time until a great shot at the end. Well done.

Featured Company Special: All workers at Progressive Insurance can get a 99 cent small yogurt today by showing their work ID.

Well, my birthday has come and gone. Thanks to my friends who made it out the Grill last night. I think tonight seems like a good night for a little grocery shopping and a little rest. I started thinking about everything that we are planning on doing over the next few weeks and it is quiet a line up. I'm not as young as I was two days ago, so I better take that into account.

Friday in the News: "She is the most dangerous enemy of the bureau.... She might well have succeeded in interfering with the bureau's ability to contain the Communist menace in the United States." J. Edgar Hoover said this in 1941 about Eleanor Roosevelt. The First Lady commented on the way Hoover used the FBI to spy on and blackmail private citizens was reminiscent of "Gestapo tactics." Incensed, Hoover defended his honor by bugging her hotel rooms, harassing her friends and associates, and trying to destroy her reputation. (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Vincent Paul Young, Jr. You might remember Vince Young's amazing performance in the 2005 Rose Bowl as he led the University of Texas past the University of Southern California to their first National Championship since 1970. But, the magic didn't end there. As Vince Young entered the NFL, he led the Titans to an eight and five record under his time as a starter. Want a free small yogurt? Give us the name of the video game that will feature Vince Young on the cover for the 2008 edition.

As I was at Wikipedia searching for today's birthday, I check on yesterday to see who was born on my birthday. Here is a list of a few notables: Bill Paxton, Jordan Knight (NKOTB), Craig Ferguson, Trent Reznor, Tony Parker, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Dennis Hopper.

Other cool things that happened on the 17th: The Continental Congress bans trade with Canada (1775), The New York Stock Exchange is formed (1792), The Constitution of Norway is signed (1814), The United States Supreme Court hands down a unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas (1954), and hearings begin in the Watergate scandal (1973).

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2007 at Trinity Christian Academy.

The bagels, pita and English Muffins have NOT been delivered. UPS dropped the ball. They will be delivered tomorrow and we do still have a good selection available in the freezer.

It's official...I'm one year older today and only one year away from 30. That seems like a much bigger number when I type it out. The good news is that, while I am the old man with my fraternity brothers, I am still one of the young ones with my other group of friends. I get to sit through the gauntlet of 30th birthdays this year and smile.

As for what one does on a 29th birthday, I've chosen to sit back and enjoy a meal at the Bavarian Grill in Plano with my friends. If there is one restaurant in the Dallas area that I enjoy more than any other, it would be this one. I have been a faithful patron for 11 years now. In many ways, it is my own personal cheers. Once again, I will attempt to play the bells.

Greetings Starfighter...

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Pistachio, Peach and Lemon.

Today is Cone Day! All cones are $1.85 all day long (regularly $2.77).

Last night, a rarity occurred in our household, my wife and I were both tired and ready for bed by 10:00 PM. normally, she is a little more likely to be tired and I am very likely to stay up for another few hours. As we were both exhausted, however, we headed to bed at 10:15 PM. I can't remember the last time that I went to bed before 11:00 PM without being sick.

After 30 minutes of sleep, I got a phone call. There's just something about getting a phone call after 10 PM during the week once you’re a few years out of college for a few years because it never seems to be good news. Seeing it was from one of my fraternity brothers, I answered. Unfortunately, a brother who was a former employee at the store had been broadsided by a car on Sunday when he was riding his motorcycle. He is currently in critical care at Parkland.

Needless to say, we were both rather restless after the phone call, so after a prayer for Clint and his family, we got up to watch make some muffins and watch a movie. She let me pick and I chose one of favorites from my childhood: The Last Starfighter. (If you haven't heard of or seen this movie, there is a link to the right under Boredom Busters called 80's Movies Rock that has a fantastic write up on it.) While I don't think it was her cup of tea, she was nice enough to watch it all the way through. After the movie and another prayer, we went to sleep at 1:30 AM.

Quiz Day: Are You A Child of the 80's?

You Are 92% A Child of the 80s

This weekend ended up being quiet busy for us in the store at Sugarless deLite. It seems that once again, most of us put off our Mother's Day shopping until the last minute. Of course, if you forgot, we can still send something out for you.

In addition to a busy weekend at the store, my wife and I had a busy weekend with our friends. On Saturday, she attended a Bachelorette party for her former roommate. Seeing the opportunity for a few hours at home alone, I skipped out on the Taste of Addison event and put together her long over due second wedding present so that she could redeem one of her birthday coupons.

On Sunday, we went over to our friend’s apartment and cooked vegetarian fajitas for 10. It was a lot of fun being able to cook for our friends. After dinner, we all settled in to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest so that we could all be caught up for the premier of the last installment next weekend.

Admittedly, the second movie is not in the same ballpark with the first; however, I have hopes that it is only suffering the same fate as many trilogy middle films do: In their attempts to advance the story, they often loose site of the characters. The same thing happened with Back to the Future. While two was a horrible mess, the first and the last film where classics. And so, I hold out hope for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Finally, don't forget that the postage for the United States Postal Service increases today. You can find the new rates here.

The thing that strikes me most about the Dallas Mavericks not being in the playoffs is that I just don't care about the NBA playoffs without them in it. I guess that is really the judge of weather you like a sport or not. Baseball is a sport that I will follow all the way through the playoffs without on of my teams in contention. To be sure, the playoffs are better for me when the Cardinals or Yankees are in it; however, I'm still going to enjoy the game.

I heard the playoff scores today on the way into work for the NBA and I was truly hard pressed to care. On one hand, I would like to see Golden State get past the second round so that it would make Dallas' exit look a little bit better. On the other hand, I don't really care about Golden State or Utah. I like both San Antonio and Phoenix Suns so I can't cheer for one or the other and there is not a team in the east that I care about in the least. I'm a little let down by the whole thing because I, like most of Dallas, thought that we had a great shot at it this year. I guess the upside is that y'all don't have to read updates everyday.

Thankfully, there are plenty of other things going on to keep us busy and blog about. This weekend is Mother's Day. We had dinner with my wife's parents on Thursday night. Since my parents are in Atlanta, we are free on Sunday. We're looking forward to a lazy afternoon and a movie viewing in the evening with our friends.

I tend to listen to 90.1 and the Diane Rehm show on my morning commute. Sometimes I wish that my predictions weren't as accurate as they often are. I was bested 3 out of 4 games. The first game was horrible as I tried to work off my eight years of rust. I avoided a skunk by virtue of my one point scored. The second game went a little better with some nice rallies amounting to a loss at 15-9. By the third game I had rediscovered my serve and was able to win 15-8. Though I was up in the final game 13-8, Rick managed to come back in a strong fashion and win out 15-13. If I can only get my backhand to return, I might provide a better match.

On the upside, Stacey was able to take a great photo:

Who knew that Rick had ups like that?

Needless to say, the soreness was prevalent this morning. Whenever you workout in a different manner, you sure to be sore the next day. My average workout does not consist of flying into walls at full speed or diving onto hard wood floors, but I have a really hard time of playing without giving 100%.

Game On

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Cappuccino, White Chocolate Mousse and Boysenberry.

Today is Cone Day! All day long, we have our cones on sale for $1.85 (regularly $2.72).

Do you ever have those evenings that you both dread and look forward to at the same time? I've got one tonight. Rick and I are going to square off on the racquetball court for a friendly game. The last time that I played racquetball was sometime during my junior year in college which would sadly put the time at about 8 years. Thankfully, I kept all of my equipment, but I am sure that I've managed to loose most of my meager skills.

Because Rick and I are both competitive people, I think it will make for an interesting match. Before the match, I am going to try to brush up on the rules. I've also have to make sure that I stretch even thought I know already that I will be sore tomorrow. Anytime you move and twist around in different ways than you’re used to, you’re asking for a little bit of soreness.

First, let me just say that the pillow saga has indeed ended for me. The one that I got sleeps like a dream. I'm talking about some deep sleep. Even though it took a little longer than I would have liked, it is nice to have found a winner.

Of course, the weekend of activity could have had something to do with the good sleep as well. On Friday night, we went to Dovie's in Addison and had a wonderful dinner then we stayed up late talking the night away. On Saturday night, we were itching to get out and spend some time with our friends so we organized a trip to the Bavarian Grill where we closed the place down. After waking up and going to church on Sunday, we ran some errands for some much needed groceries and then went to eat at Spring Creek BBQ. After several month of staying in on most evenings, this weekend seemed crazy.

By far the coolest thing that we found while we were out shopping this weekend was a new toothbrush. Yes, I know that seems like one of the most boring purchases that you can make, but stick with me here. The toothbrush didn't have some new hooky gadget or super cool design color. Rather, this one was made from recycled yogurt cups for the handle (the bristles are new) and had near 100% recycled packaging which doubles as a travel case. Additionally, when you are finished with the toothbrush, you can send it in to be recycled again.

Brushing my teeth with it for the first time last night was great. The curve in the handle actually allowed me to brush softer and get further back. Added bonus. The company that makes this has a winning product on their hands if they get the needed support from the American consumer. At a premium of little over 10% the cost of a regular toothbrush, this one is well worth the buy. You can read more about the Preserve Toothbrush from Recycline here. If you're in the market for a new toothbrush, I highly recommend this one which can be found at the Target on the NW corner of Coit and Campbell.

It's finally over. No, I'm not talking about the Mavericks post season run since that never really began. I'm talking about the great pillow hunt of 2007 a.k.a., the quest for the Perfect Pillow. What began a few weeks ago is finally concluded or so I hope.

The saga started a week ago when we took back an item that we had somehow received twice as a wedding present. The one thing that we had not gotten that I was really looking forward to getting was a new set of pillows. With that in mind and a coupon in hand, we exchanged the item for two queen size pillows. Of course they were different then the ones on the registry because the Bed, Bath and Beyond that we were at did not have the original ones we chose.

After waiting a day to get the pillow covers with our gift card, we put the covers on and the pillows in the cases only to find that the queen size pillows did not fit two of the three pillow cases that we have. Bummed out, but undaunted, we proceeded to try and sleep on the new pillows. My wife decided within a few minutes that the pillow would not work for her and I too came to that conclusion after about 30 minutes.

Enter the next day when we shopped at Kohl's for the pillows that were on sale this week. After 20 minutes of debate, she found one that she thought she would enjoy. I left empty handed. One night of sleep and her choice proved to not be a winner after all. So last evening, we went back to Bed, Bath and Beyond to return the original pillows.

While we were shopping, she informed me that she was going to stick with the two pillows that she currently had until a later date which left me shopping for one that I like. I took a few minutes, but I found one that after a nights sleep appears to be a perfect fit. The only problem that we were left with was the standard size pillow cases and the queen size pillows.

Queen Pillow=20 inches by 30 inches
Standard Pillow=20 inches by 26 inches

What makes this hard is that standard size pillow cases aren't standardized. Some of them are 20x26 while others are 20x31 or 20x30. Who new that shopping for bedding would be so hard? After a little debate and some more shopping, we decided on picking up another set of queen sheets with the large (20x32) standard pillow cases and return one of our other sets with the smaller pillow cases. Heck, I'm tired just writing about it.

Friday in the News: In May 2005, the U.S. bragged about its capture of one Abu Faraj Al Libbi, described as Osama Bin Laden's right hand man. President Bush said that the capture of this guy was "a critical victory in the war on terror." It turns out that he may not have been that important. In fact, one former al Qaeda member told The Times of London, "What I remember of him is he used to make the coffee and do the photocopying." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

This evening, we have our yogurt buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

I went to Half Price Books last evening and did a little shopping. (One Christmas present down.) At the check out counter, there was a small strip of green paper that had the word b(eco)me on it. Curious and assuming that it had something to do with the environment, I picked it up and flipped it over. Here is what it said:

It's good to b(eco)me old news.
If United States citizens recycled just 10% of newspapers, approximately 25 million trees would be saved annually. About 75% of what we throw out could be recycled into tomorrow's new, books and household paper products. Once you're done reading a book, donate it or sell it to a secondhand shop or used book store. Start the cycle over again and buy second hand products whenever possible.

BARE FACTS & STATS: It takes 28% less energy to recycle than to produce paper from scratch. Paper accounts for 40% of solid waste in the United States, which is about 72 million tons annually. If every household replaced one roll of regular toilet paper with one recycled post-consumer waste roll, 424 thousand trees would be saved. Learn more at becomegreen.info.

There were two things that I noticed after reading this. The first was the plug about taking your books to a used book store-very sneaky. The second was that there was not a message saying that it had been produced from recycled paper.

The overcast skies look like they are here to stay for the rest of the week. It was kind of funny watching the Weather Channel and seeing four straight days of rain and thunder showers. The upside is that I didn't see any hail storms, and we can always use a little rain to remind us of how great the sunshine is.

Don't worry about the rain keeping us from doing our job. If you are on the email group, check your inbox today. The calendar and the coupons are going to be sent out this afternoon. There are a couple of coupons to save money on the Pepper Plant and the Dixie Diner product lines. If you haven't tried either one, May is a great month to do so.
