In addition to your free small yogurt that you get when you join the club, we are going to give a 20% bonus to anyone who signs up with a minimum of 50 dollars. (The regular bonus is 10% with a minimum of 30 dollars.) If you are already a member, today is a perfect day to recharge your card so that you too can take advantage of this special. Remember that the minimum load value is 50 dollars to receive the 20% bonus.

If the above information confuses you, then just ask us for more details when you are in today. This is a wonderful way for our yogurt customers to save on every yogurt purchase.

Green Tip: The acids or lye in commercial drain cleaners don't belong in wastewater. Try a plunger or plumber's snake first. If there's no standing water, pour in a cup of baking soda, then three cups of boiling water. Repeat if necessary. To work through backed-up water, pour a cup of washing soda into the spot over the clog, wait for it to settle, then use the baking soda technique. [Brought to you by Page-a-Day calendar.]

Last day to early vote!!!

Birthdays are kind of slim on the leap year date, so I have replaced today's birthday link with an explanation about the leap year.

Also, the blog entry today is number 600. Thanks to everyone who has kept up with it over the past 23 months and for all of the feedback and comments. Thank you for reading.

More New Things

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Grasshopper (Mint Flavor), New York Cheesecake, and Strawberry Shortcake.

We have a selection of our gourmet chocolates on sale for 50% off today. Ask us where they are and we will be happy to show you. Get some chocolates at a great price today. (The March calendar is available in the store now and will be available on the blog on Saturday.)

We got in a new selection of Easter chocolates. Easter is early this year, the 23rd of March. We've got a growing table of options that can help to fill up any Easter basket.

The bagels, pita, and English Muffins have arrived! We have a fresh stock of all varieties of bagels (Blueberry, Sweet Wheat, Cinnamon, White, Onion, and Perfect 10) and both types of pita. Come in and get yours today! Great options for Weight Watchers®.

Within the next few weeks, we will have two new BBQ sauces that I know will be the best that we have ever carried. Be on the lookout for updates right here.

Normally the blog quiz does not give itself to a wide range of results. Yesterday was an exception. All four responses where different from each other and from my results. Usually, there are a couple of repeats. It was fun to see all of the different shoe types. Moreover, I think that my results fit me like a well worn shoe. I thought that some of the other results fit well too.

A friendly reminder for anyone planning to vote in the primary: The last day to early vote is tomorrow. If you haven't voted yet, you've still got today and tomorrow. If you need to know where to vote, you can click here.

What Day Is It?

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Grasshopper (Mint Flavor), New York Cheesecake, and Strawberry Shortcake.

Today, we have out Pumpkin Breads on sale for $14.99 (regularly $19.99).

The PB2 has arrived! We've got in 24 jars, so we should have enough for a week or two. If you haven't tried this product yet and you love peanut butter, then ask for a sample and see why people love it.

Yesterday was a Murphy's Law kind of day. In addition to the PB2 not coming in as scheduled, I started out the morning with cranky yogurt machines, two additional UPS packages that went wrong, a blog that was doomed to be far behind its regular posting time, and a Hotmail account that took forever to open.

It always seems like days like this cluster right around the time that you are getting ready to take a vacation. It might be because you are ready to go and, in the anticipation of leaving, the little things add up quicker. Or, it might just be a way of assuring yourself the pleasure of stepping away from it and leaving it to someone else for a few days. All I know is that, like most people, I like to have the loose ends wrapped up before I head out. Days like yesterday, however, create a whole slew of new frays with which to deal. But, I've got a feeling that as we stroll through the Eureka Springs downtown this weekend, these things will slowly melt away.

I did notice that I messed up the blog order this week. I think that, while I was running a few days ahead last week, I've been running a day behind this week. Today, we're getting back on track. The answers to the puzzler are below, and the quiz question is below the answer.

Puzzler Answer:

Quiz Day: What Kind of Shoe Are You?

You Are Sneakers

You are creative, funky, and forward thinking.
You are cool, but you are still approachable.

You are stylish and edgy, but you aren't a slave to fashion.
You tend to put your own spin on trends.

You tend to have a fast paced, busy lifestyle.
Not a lot of people can keep up with you!

You should live: Near nature
You should work: In a job that keeps you on the go

MooYah Burgers Review: Like the website says, this place is a no frills burger joint. Your menu options are burgers (beef, turkey, or veggie), grilled cheese, fries, sodas, and shakes. If you are in the mood for this type of simplistic fare, then you will be pleased. Starting with a courteous and pleasant staff that is too rarely seen and going down to the clean and almost Spartan decor, the workers and the setting exemplifies the simple and welcoming nature of what they serve.

We started with the turkey burger which is more like eating a thin turkey breast than a ground turkey burger. The turkey burger was good, but we were thrown off by the breast vs. patty approach that was taken. I am going to have to give the nod to the turkey burger at Topz. Nevertheless, the MooYah version was a good difference rather than a bad one. It might just come down to a personal preference. An advantage to the MooYah way is the unlimited topping at no extra cost.

The only two items that have a charge to them are the bacon, which is fantastic, and the cheese (American or Swiss). Unfortunately, American cheese is not quite as good as a cheddar option in my option. But this is really my biggest gripe, and the bacon goes a long way to making up for this problem. The other toppings include the following: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, grilled onions, sautéed mushrooms, jalapenos, special sauce, buffalo sauce, A1 Steak Sauce, BBQ sauce, mustard, mayo, and ketchup. Moreover, they have a great low-carb option where they wrap your burger in big leaves of iceberg lettuce.

In the interest of offering a fair comparison to other burger places, we also tried the 100% all beef patty burger. While the turkey burgers were good with all the extras, the all beef burger leaves you wanting more in a very good way. I'm usually not a big red meat person, but this burger was outstanding. My wife and I opted share a Swiss, sautéed mushroom, and grilled onion burger. This is a burger that is worthy of going back to get again.

In addition to sacrificing my waste line for the sake of this review with the extra burger purchase, I also pilfered a few fries. They didn't have sweet potato, but the fries that they did have were plentiful and properly seasoned. At about 7 to 8 dollars for a burger with bacon, cheese, extras, and a drink on the side, this is an affordable restaurant that I highly recommend.

Another Chronicle

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Toffee Nut, Grasshopper (Mint Flavor), White Chocolate Raspberry, and Peach.

Today, we have our Sierra deLite bars on sale for $2.99 each (regularly $4.62). Ask for the special to receive the discounted price.

I went and saw the Spiderwick Chronicles yesterday with a couple of friends. I got what I was expecting. I'm a pretty easy reviewer of fantasy films. As long as they are not bad, they qualify as good for me. Since I'm going with a willing suspension of disbelief, I tend to give these films a little more slack. Nevertheless, I thought that they did a good job with this one. The visuals, as with most films with any type of decent budget, were great and the coloration helped to provide the contrast between the real and fairy realm and the good and evil sides thereof.

Whenever you're working with kids in the cast, you always run the risk of bad acting. This pitfall was avoided here, but no one will get an award nomination either. The story follows a family in chaos that moves into an old home to start anew. One of the two boys, who is rather rebellious, finds a field guide to a fantastic realm of fairies and goblins. The movie starts a high paced race to the end as the goblins try to capture the book and the children seek to save their home and protect the other creatures of the realm. If you are looking for a fun movie to enjoy with your family, I would recommend this one. Movie Rating: 3 out of 5.

If you are in the Plano area and are looking for a place to eat this evening, I would suggest MooYah Burgers at 6400 West Plano Parkway, #100, Plano, TX 75093-On Park, 1/4 Mile West Of Tollway (Facing Park • 2 doors down from Ebby Halliday). I've never been here before, but Feral Friends is having a fundraiser there tonight where they get a percentage of the food and drink sales for the evening. My wife and I are always willing to eat a tasty burger to help out cats. The fundraiser runs from 5 PM to 9 PM this evening.

Overheard by Rick yesterday at lunch:

Man #1: I'll tell you, women are weird.

Man #2: True, but why do you say that?

Man #1: Yesterday, I woke up and my wife was lying there in bed crying.

Man #2: What was she crying about?

Man #1: She said that she had just woken up from a dream in which I was having an affair with another woman.

Man #2: Really? She was crying about a dream? What'd you do?

Man #1: I asked her if the other woman was good looking.

He didn't get to hear the rest of the conversation, but I am willing to be that Man #1 found out that this was probably not the best response to have to this dream.

I've got a list of things to do today. As is often the case, they are carry overs from earlier in the week. I tend to collect things and do them all at once rather than systematically take care of them. In no particular order: Vote, take the recycling to the center, make some phone calls, pay bills, take care of some insurance stuff, do laundry, cook dinner, pick up a tray for an order at work, and fill out a rebate form. After all of this, I'm going to try and get in a little bit of gaming.

The Rest of the Stuff

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Mocha, Roasted Almond, White Chocolate Raspberry, and Vanilla Malt.

We've got an ad in the Dallas Morning News today that is also a coupon. Clip it out and save 5 dollars off of any purchase of 25 dollars or more. When you bring in the coupon, we're going to give you a small yogurt for only 99 cents today.

Today is National Margarita Day! Celebrate by picking up some great margaritas from Baja Bobs at our store today.

We've added a link to Hungry Girl's blog. If you haven't heard of her before, you can get the basics here. We have a good number of the products about which she has written. Our store has also been listed a couple of times as a great resource for these products. You can find the link under Enlightening Locations on the right side of our blog.

Green Fact: Our ecosystem's delicate balance means that your health and that of the environment are intertwined. As if you needed another reason to shed those extra pounds: Statistics from the University of Illinois show that our cars use a billion extra gallons of gas a year transporting heavier people. The additional aircraft fuel burned annually to account for overweight passengers amounts to 350 million gallons, according to the Centers for Disease Control--producing an extra 3.8 million tons of atmosphere-warming carbon dioxide. [Brought to you by Page-a-Day calendar.]

Since I've had so many different things to blog about this week, I've also left a few things on the back burner:

*I started playing the video game that my wife got me for Christmas this year. It is my fourth time to play through Final Fantasy VII. While the graphics are dated (they were great at the time), the game's story and battle system are still some of the best for any role playing game. The only thing that bugs me about this and other RPG's is the annoying reliance on switching to a platform play to keep the gamer involved. I'm actively engaged in the story, so I never feel the need to jump around. I don't mind the puzzles, I just wish I didn't have to fumble around with the clunky interface to do them.

*My wife and I finally went to go see Juno on Tuesday. After all of the hype, the movie still held up very well. With a solid performance from Ellen Page and her supporting actors, this tale tells a story with real world charm. The characters are flawed and make choices that affect those around them. The dialogue is refreshingly down to earth but smartly written. If you haven't seen this film yet, it gets a strong recommendation from me. Movie Rating: 4 1/2 out of 5.

*In addition to the movie on Tuesday, we went out for our Valentine's Day dinner on Wednesday to Maguire's. We had a gift card and ate accordingly. In this case, it was extravagantly. It was the first time that I have eaten there, and the food was fantastic. If you’re looking for a very nice evening out, I would recommend going out and enjoying any of the evening specials.

*Before going out to eat on Wednesday, I ended my month long embargo against my razor blade in regards to my face. Tired of looking like a pubescent Wookie, I opted for the shaved with short goatee and mustache. If I had to shave everyday, I could. But, I have always maintained that one of the bonuses to working at Sugarless deLite is that, as long as you are clean, the facial hair does not matter.

*On the other hand, I will look a bit more presentable at the Married Life Live event at our church this evening. Coming up on our one year anniversary, we are going to our first married persons seminar. With most of the married couples in our Sunday school class attending, it should be a nice evening event. Afterwards, we've got a birthday party in Fort Worth.

Happy Birthday to Jeri Lynn Ryan. Well known for her role as Seven of Nine to millions of Trekkies, Mrs. Ryan has also appeared in several legal dramas on television and in several movies.

Honorable Birthday Mention: Drew Blyth Barrymore-actress.

We've sold out of our first shipment of PB2, but we are expecting to have it back in stock by Tuesday the 26th. This is a fantastic product for anyone who is looking to take the fat and calories out of their peanut butter. It also make a really good chocolate peanut butter shake!

Early Last Sunday Morning:

Clink, clink as a vitamin drops into the bathroom sink. Clink as the same vitamin drops into the trash.

Erica: Babe, did you just throw your vitamin away?

Me: Yes. It fell in the sink.

Erica: It's still good.

Me: It's dirty.

Erica: Well, it's your sink.

Me: Which, I just trimmed my beard over. Besides, the bathroom sink is the dirtiest place in the house after the kitchen sink regardless of how clean they are. There's just nasty stuff in both of them.

Fast forward to Sunday evening as we are eating a snack over the kitchen sink:

Dull clink as a small piece of bacon falls into the kitchen sink. A gasp escapes my mouth followed by one from Erica.

Erica: Did you just eat that bacon?

Me: Yes. It was still good.

Erica: Just this morning you said that you would never eat anything out of the kitchen sink because it was the dirtiest place in the whole house.

Me: I didn't say that I never would.

Erica. So, you will not take a vitamin that has fallen into your bathroom sink, but you will eat a tiny piece of bacon that has fallen into the kitchen sink where we wash dirty dishes, toss egg shells, and thaw-out meat and fish?

Me: Yes. Bacon is an essential life giving food source while a vitamin is simply a supplement for vitamins and minerals that are already flowing through my system. Clearly, the bacon is much more important and therefore worth the chance and sacrifice. :)

Given a fortunate break in the clouds last night at 9:38, my wife and I were able to see the lunar eclipse. The moon was a nice pale red and was just starting to whiten up on its right edge when we saw it move from behind the clouds. While it would have been awesome at a location without all of the light pollution, we got a pretty nice view of the event right outside our front door. Maybe, we can get away to a more secluded location for the next one in December of 2010.

Two things result from my daily work blogging exercise. First, my personal blog suffers chronic neglect. Second, there are times when I really just can’t think of anything to write. After nearly 600 entries, it can be hard to think of a subject everyday. Thankfully, this week I have not suffered any writer’s block. For most of the week, I have been one to two days ahead on my blog entries. (Yes, sometimes I cheat and write them early.)

A good portion of my neglect towards my personal blog comes as a direct result of pilfering ideas for it and using them on this blog. Such is the case with today’s entry. In an email, two of my friends asked me about a little thing called the Texas Two Step. While I’m sure that anyone who has lived in Texas most of their lives has found memories of performing this dance in gym class in their elementary years, this dance refers to the primary election process.

For those who choose to vote in the Democratic primary, there is a two step process involved in order to ensure that you maximize your voting power for the candidate of your choice. Put simply, you vote twice. You vote once in the primary. Then, you vote again in the caucus at your precinct which begins on the night of primary at 7:15 PM. If you would like to know the specifics, you can follow this link.

If you are voting in the Republican primary, then you only have to vote once.

Quiz Day: What Spice Are You?

You Are Ginger

Like ginger, you are a total shape shifter.

You can be sweet, spicy, mellow, or overpowering.

You are both soothing and unique. You are popular... yet you are often overlooked.

Astronomy Note: There is a total lunar eclipse tonight. The partial eclipse starts at 7:43 PM and the total eclipse will be from 9:01 PM to 9:51 PM.

Ask and ye shall receive: Cake slices are 50% off today (limit 2). We've got Carrot, Chocolate, and Italian Creme available. Just remember to ask for the special.

Early voting begins today for the March 4th Texas primary. There are a good number of different locations to cast your vote. Here are a few notes of interest:
1. Any registered voter can vote in either party's primary, but not both.
2. If you voted in the last primary for one party, you can vote for the other party this year.
3. To vote early, bring your voter registration card or another form of ID (driver's license or utility bill) to the polling location.
4. Early voting ends February 29th.
(Notes taken from the Quick.)

We've had such a great response on PB2 sales that we are already reordering. We did open up a jar to sample this weekend, and the PB2 does taste like peanut butter when you add the water to it. It is quite an interesting product.

Thanks to the persistent effort put in by my loving wife, I got six tickets to Radiohead on May 18th. She was nice enough to be ready when they went on sale. It was a good thing because the connection went haywire here. She came through big time for my friends and me. Best birthday present ever...next to life itself. As a bonus, we ended up with one extra ticket to the show.

This weekend was proof that you can have a busy but relaxing weekend. We had a birthday dinner downtown on Saturday night (Happy Birthday Holly). Since I actually got out of the store a bit earlier than normal, I didn't have to turn around and rush out the door like I normally do for evening events. On Sunday, we went to church and come home for a breakfast for lunch feast, read through the paper, and then settled in for an afternoon nap. After lounging around the house post nap, we cooked dinner and then went out to a campaign event.

This morning, I was finally able to get something crossed off my to do list. I've gotten us signed up for AT&T's "naked" DSL offering. After several weeks of sub-par service from Time Warner Cable, I made the call to make the switch. If TWC is able to come down to the same price point, under thirty, and fix our current internet problem, we will stay with them. However, we now have another acceptable option on the table.

Looks like we're in for a cool day of rain and stormy weather. It might be one of those rather dreary days. This morning certainly saw its fair share of storms. One of them seemed to be sitting directly on top of our home. The three thunder claps that awoke us at 6:20 this morning were some of the closest that I have ever heard, and the rain that followed was very heavy. Thankfully, we do need the rain.

As I was looking through the Entertainment Weekly magazine for this week, I realized that I have some serious catching up to do when it comes to seeing the movies that have been nominated this year for the Oscar Awards. It might be time to take a few evenings in at the movie theater and join Netflix again to get a few of the DVD selections. I'm pretty sure that I can get my wife to Juno and to Attonment, but I might have to find some other friends for No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. On the non-Oscar side, I'm also planning on going to see The Spiderwick Chronicles in the next week or two.

Sometimes, after a really busy day at work, I have trouble going to sleep early in the evening. I'm usually very tired, but I am also normally wired from the activity of the day. I got home at 9:15 last night after doing a bit of shopping for groceries at Target. The Mrs. was a bit sleepy, so we talked for an hour and she headed to bed. I actually watched the news and a little bit of TV for the first time this year. I got to see a couple of political ads, caught the weather, reacquainted myself with my disdain for the local news, and rediscovered my love for PBS. However, an hour later I was ready to turn off the TV and crack open one of my books which calmed me down enough after an hour to head to bed and close out my 18 hour day.

When you work retail, holidays mean long days. Inevitably, you end up working right up until Christmas or, in the case of today, throughout the day. While it is unfortunate, it does allow us to avoid the crowds since our Valentine's dinner will be next week. It also forces me to be creative on the celebration. I think that my wife would agree that this is a good thing. I got a few surprises in this morning for her, and, by the time that she reads this, she will have seen her final one. ;) I love you Erica. I like the rain when it comes in the middle of the night. After being awoken by the clash of thunder, hearing the rain crash against the window is always a relaxing way to fall back into the sweet surrender of slumber. Unless, at the sound of the first crash of thunder, your brain begins to wonder: Did I roll up my car window? And so it was that I found myself running downstairs and out the front door at 2:30 AM to race to my car, which was parked much further away than normal, to check on the driver's side window to see if it was still cracked open.

Of the two possible outcomes, my story ends with the fortunate one of simply being soaked. The crack that I had in the window on the way home was no longer there. I ended up with a drenched body rather than a drenched auto interior. After drying off downstairs, I was able to return to bed. I actually think that I may have slept a little better because of the cool rain shower. Nevertheless, I don't plan on making a habit of it.

By combining two tablespoons of the PB2 with 1 tablespoon of water, you can reconstitute the peanut butter for use as a spread. Also, you can put it directly into jellies and jams for a sandwich or use it in cooking. If you are doing Weight Watchers®, the best part is that a serving is only 1 Point!

This morning, I got a pretty good understanding of how some people feel about baseball. On ESPN radio, they were giving the poll results of the Daytona 500. I could have sworn that this sport just ended last month. It is a sport that dominates the headlines during its season. It is also a sport that I just tire of hearing about. This might sum up how my wife feels about the baseball season. Baseball, of course, starts this week when pitchers and catchers report. :) (As a side note, our new extra large cups only have NASCAR on them because we ran out and needed more this weekend.)

Not only did Barack Obama have a wonderful weekend in the primaries race with victories in all four states and the Virgin Islands, but he also had a pretty good go at the Grammy awards where he beat out former Presidents Clinton and Carter. Mr. Obama won a Grammy for his best spoken word album "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream". This marks the second time that he has won a Grammy award.

One of the tricky things about the environment is that, to be honest, we don't really know what we're doing. Sometimes, it is easy to see short term beneifits that are appealing, but we miss the long term problems that these solutions might create. A new study suggests the corn-based ethanol, which is touted at our savior from oil dependency, might be more harmful in the long run because of the release of carbon dioxide that results from deforestation and the energy used to grow and refine the ethanol.

I have long felt that the corn-based solution is not a solution at all, but this study also brings the switchgrass-based ethanol into question. One thing is certain, we don't yet have the answers. A true alternative initiative would be a nice start. In the meantime, we'll have to try and do our part with the little things.

Green Tip: Health effects associated with pesticide exposure include eye, nose, and throat irritation; damaged to the central nervous system and kidneys; and elevated cancer risk. Some common household items have insect-repellent properties, minus the risk. Tape whole, dried bay leaves to the bottom of shelves in your pantry to keep tiny bugs away. Make your own spray by combining rubbing alcohol with an essential oil like clove, citronella, or peppermint in a spray bottle. It looks like the Republican field got narrowed yesterday with Mitt Romney's announcement that he was suspending his campaign. It was an interesting move, because it gives him the ability to hold his delegates that he has already won. It is a pretty sure bet that John McCain will get the nomination for the Republican party, but the politics of it are going to be something to keep an eye on.

Meanwhile, the other side of the coin is digging in for a long protracted fight. The fundraising is reaching some ridiculous numbers to keep them each in the competition. The next few weeks could do very little to clear up the nomination. More and more, it looks like the decision could come down to the convention and the super delegates. If that is the case, they will have some very tough and, possibly, dangerous choices to make.

Happy Birthday Wishes to Seth Benjamin Gesshel-Green. Thankfully, my friends live in the digital era. I have been able to, through them, obtain photos of the Groundhog's Day cake from this weekend. I think that it was once again a work of art. Since it was cake, it was also a work of art that was bound to be destroyed by the hungry party goers. Thanks to Jeff for the cake and Sharon for the photos.

We've gotten in our shipment of Atkinson's hard candies. These are the candies that are replacing the Peerless candies. As you might know, Peerless went out of business last year. Atkinson purchased much of the sugar free line. Some of the candies, we feel, have actually been improved.

If you don't like politics, you might not like the next few months. However, if you like to have choices and viable campaigns with a bit of political intrigue, then the time leading up to the conventions is going to be great. I definitely fall into the latter camp. I think that it is fantastic that there is not a clear winner on either side this morning. The picture, to some degree, is even fuzzier than it was before Super Tuesday.

One of the great things about our modern era of communications is that you can get real time visual results on things like elections through the internet. That assumption only holds if your connection is working at home. Ours was not, so I resorted to NPR's coverage on the radio. I'm bummed about the internet not working, but it did spur me into action. I've been following the release information about a naked DSL offering from AT&T. It is now available.

This offering is basically DSL without the land line for the phone. It is great for people such as my wife and me who have cell phones only. It is an offering that will probably not be around for more than the federally mandated 2 and 1/2 years, but in the meantime could save some money for those of you who want a high speed connection, but don't need the high price of cable. Here is a page with some information for anyone who might be interested.

Super Tuesday is finally here. Today will see over 20 states vote for their choice of Republican and Democrat presidential candidates. I'm pretty excited about checking out the results this evening. The Quick actually has a pretty good break down of the races on page 7 today. I'm sure that the Dallas Morning News has the full story somewhere in it.

The interesting part about this election cycle is that our vote in Texas will actually count next month for the primary. With Texas being one of the last large states up for grab, you can count on some visits from the hopefuls. Given that I would like to hear from a couple of them, I think this is a very good thing. Nothing like a little competition to make things interesting and to bring on some much needed change in the system.

I was in shock yesterday from the Giants win and forgot to post the puzzle. Here is this week's entry:

How are the words on the left different from the words on the right?

We have received our shipment of Fior difrutta. We now have the Wild Blueberry, Fig, Peach, Strawberry, and Raspberry back in stock. Given the number of mail orders that have been coming in for this product, I can tell that this line is hard to find. With the great taste, I can see why.

Hopefully, everyone had a fun and safe Super Bowl weekend. We had a great time down in Austin celebrating Groundhog's Day. I should have a picture in a few days for you of the cake. It was fun to see so many former employees of Sugarless deLite all in one spot. The weather on Sunday was beautiful. We walked to breakfast at Threadgill's and then headed back to Arlington to watch the first half of the game.

Unfortunately, I slipped down to fifth place in the fantasy football league that I played in for the playoffs. I didn't really understand how the whole thing worked, so I think that I did alright all things considered. At least I did not come in last. Out of all the players in all the leagues on ESPN.com, I finished in the top 53%. I'll take a slightly better than average finish for a first attempt. Maybe next year I will have an improved showing.

I didn't really watch enough of the game to talk about it. I'm a little bummed about not getting to see a perfect season; however, I the game worked out for everyone I know. The more important part of the game, as everyone knows, is the commercials. For the two halves that we watched, I didn't really see any that stood out. I think that there is to much expected from advertisers when it comes to the big game. Inevitably, the expectations lead to a bit of a let down. Maybe next year.

It's Groundhog's Day! Today, the Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. I'm sure my wife is sorry to hear the news, but I don't mind a little bit of overtime for the winter season. One of the great things about the yearly appearance of the small varmint is the annual Vortex Groundhog's Day Festival. This grand tradition was started at UT Dallas 12 years ago by an ingenious soul named Jeff McLaughlin. Some of our longer term customers might remember Jeff who is also a proud alumnus of Sugarless deLite.

Since he moved to Austin, we have been taking a Dallas contention down each of the past few years to celebrate this great holiday. So, I'll leave early today to head down to Austin. One day, we might petition Congress to make it an official national holiday. For the meantime, we'll be content to watch the movie, relax and enjoy good friendship, and eat the coolest cakes ever made. (I hope to have photos of the cake to post next week.)

There is no way this winter is ever going to end as long as that groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don't see any way out of it. He's got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.

Green Tip: Liquid fabric softeners may contain derivatives of ammonium chloride (harmful to some aquatic life and a trigger for allergy and asthma symptoms). Keep it out of the wastewater stream by substituting a quarter-cup to a cup of white vinegar, which leaves your clothing soft and doesn't leave behind any scent. [Brought to you by Page-a-Day calendar.]

A myriad of reasons contributed to the massively late blog entry yesterday; however, I was finally able to finish my TBR list. It should be noted that the books are not listed in the order in which I intend to read them. I'll base that on a combination of gut feelings and what is easily obtained from my book shelf. I'm also going to have to get some of these from my local library and my local friends.

The challenge also suggested picking a list of alternates in case something on the list is unappealing to you. While it is not a full list of twelve alternates, here is my list:

City of God-St. Augustine of Hippo

A Scanner Darkly-Philip K. Dick

Much Ado About Nothing-William Shakespeare

Left Behind: A Novel of Earth's Last Days
-Tim F. LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins

The Hobbit-J.R.R. Tolkien

To Sail Beyond the Sunset-Robert A. Heinlein

Cities of God: The Real Story of How Christianity Became an Urban Movement and Conquered Rome
-Rodney Stark

The Picture of Dorian Gray
-Oscar Wilde

Pere Goriot-Honoré de Balzac

(Since yesterday was such a crazy day, I didn't get to a chance to post a comic. I have gone back to yesterday's post and corrected this.)
