Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Peanut Butter, Coffee Royal, Angel Food Cake and Boysenberry.

Today, you can ship to any of the lower 48 states (UPS ground only) for $6.99. Come into the store and pick out your items, then let us ship for you.

The May calendar is available in the store and will be posted tomorrow on the blog. If you are a member of the email group, then you will receive your calendar and coupons either today or tomorrow. Don't forget to check your inbox.

On Saturday, my wife and I got to go to a friend's birthday party. I actually like going to birthday events now because they mainly involve hanging out and talking. It was the first group thing that we've really done since we've been married. After several months of hanging out together, it was nice to move back into our group of friends. Besides, the cake was mighty tasty.

The month of May is going to seem like a whirlwind after the calm of April. This was the first of several birthday parties. Also, there are two concerts, one piratical movie event, and possibly a trip back in time at Scarborough. This is leaving out a little thing called Mother's Day (May 13th) and Memorial Day (May 28th). May is one busy week indeed.

In conclusion of the Monday series, Common Misconceptions about Workouts and Common Sense Responses to Them:

Advice: Slugging through exercise, like it or not, is the road to success.

Myth: You need to mix up your activity, to stay motivated and enjoy the activity. If you enjoy working out, you'll stay with it for the long term. You may like to go the gym, play a sport, or engage in some other physical activity. There is no "best" activity. The best workout is one you enjoy.-By Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS

Today, we have our yogurt special from 6 PM to 8 PM. The yogurt is buy one, get one free (excludes XL, limit one).

Last night my wife and I brought out the old Super Nintendo and played Super Mario Brothers for about an hour. It seems that we both came in with the idea that this would be an easy game to just run through; however, when you don't play a game for 5 to 7 years, it is not as easy as you remember it. It seems that there is a bit of a learning curve to the game after all.

Nevertheless, we stumbled through the first few levels and got into a little bit of a grove. It was kind of fun to go back in time. It's hard to believe that this game is 17 years old. Back in the day, I remember it had top-notch graphics. It no longer does, but the game design still makes it fresh today.

The game was a lot of fun last night. For any one who likes sporting events, I highly recommend checking out a FC Dallas game this year. The crowd was loud and colorful. While we were unable to come away with a win, it was a perfect night to take in a game. The only major downside was sitting in the parking lot for 20 minutes afterwards waiting to get out. So, I sat in my car and listened to NPR and Mavs talk. However, the drive home was short and sweet.

Friday in the News: To honor George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld, in 2004 two entomologists named three species of slime mold beetles after them. The decision to name the beetles after Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld didn't have anything to do with the physical features, says Quentin Wheeler, former professor of entomology and plant biology at Cornell, but to pay homage. "We admire these leaders as fellow citizens who have the courage of their convictions." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Christopher John Carpenter. Chris Carpenter is the ace of the staff for the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals. He has one of the best curveballs in baseball and four other quality pitches. In 2005, he won the Cy Young Award for the National League. Want a free small (7 oz) yogurt? Give us Chris Carpenter's career high strike out number and the team that he pitched against that day.

If you want to get a jump start on May's Specials, we have the May calendar in the store available for pick up.

Despite our best efforts to stay in our current apartment community, we came to the conclusion last night that it would be best to move out after our current lease ends in July. This weekend, we will start the hunt for a new place to live. Hopefully, this will be the last one before we buy a home next year.

Thankfully, we know that there are many options out there. We have given ourselves a couple of weekends to find a new apartment, but we already have a front runner. I think that, now that our decision to move has been made, we are both excited about finding a new place.

This evening, I will attend my first FC Dallas game. I am looking forward to seeing the new stadium and catching what should be a good game. This is the first of five games for the mini game package that I got for the season. The best game is yet to come: David Beckham and the LA Galaxy on July 31st. Even if he is a little past his prime, it is still a great chance to see one of the best ever to play the game.

Today is Shake Day! All shakes are $3.69 (regularly $3.93-$4.62) all day long!

It is pretty rare that I get up and out of the door by 8 AM. Nevertheless, I had to take my car into the shop this morning since it was having trouble starting. After dropping the car off at Gus' Auto Center in Richardson (best auto mechanic in the North Dallas area), I went out to breakfast with my wife.

We normally don't eat out very often. We are even less likely to eat out for breakfast since is it so cheap and easy to cook it at home. But, we do venture out every once in a while. We both love Nikki's Diner which is a great option since it is right next to the store. I'm not sure where else you can go and get a three egg bacon and cheese omelet with two buttermilk pancakes for $4.98. It is a big meal for the start of the day and a great one at that. The best part is that I just walked to the store right after the meal.

Conversations

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butter Brickle, Pecan Praline, Blueberry Cheesecake and Banana.

Today is Teacher Day! All teachers can receive a small today for only 99 cents by showing their teacher ID.

One of the funny things about writing a daily blog entry is coming up with the next entry. Admittedly, I occasionally cheat by doing short or non-existent entries with more content than substance; however, I try to write a little something each day. Sometimes the entries are planned and sometimes the planned entries go out the window when I sit down type.

Such is the case today. I cannot even remember what I had planned on writing because as sat down, it was replaced with a conversation that my wife and I had last evening.

Wife: Are there any good yogurt flavors in today?

Me: Not really, we've got Butter Brickle on a trial run after a three year hiatus and Pecan Praline...

Wife: Pecan Praline? That's one of my favorites! What else do you all have in?

Me: Blueberry Cheesecake and Banana.

Wife: I love Banana! That's one of the best ones.

Me: It's like I always tell everyone, my tastes don't matter.

It's true. My tastes don't matter because taste is a very personal thing. One person’s ambrosia might be another person’s dirt. The best way to figure it out is to try the product for yourself which is why we keep so many samples on hand at the store. Don't be afraid to ask. We're happy to let you try for yourself.

Quiz Day: How Green Is Your Life?

Your Life is 56% Green

You're life is pretty green - and you know a lot about how to live an eco friendly life.
So congratulate yourself for being good to the earth. And maybe think about implementing some of the ideas from this quiz!

I guess 56 is a good start. I'm trying to shift into a greener mode and making some changes at home over the next few months with detergents and cleaners should help. Maybe next time I take the quiz, I'll be in the mid 60's.

We had our wedding party last evening at the Candlelite Inn in Arlington. I would like to thank everyone who came down to join us. We both felt that it went really well. I hope that everyone had a good time socializing. I felt like I didn't get to actually sit down and talk with anyone, but that just goes along with the territory. It was nice getting to have all of our friends and our family gathered together.

In continuation of the Monday series, Common Misconceptions about Workouts and Common Sense Responses to Them:

Advice: It's OK to workout when you're injured.

Fact: Conventional wisdom says you should rest, but new research shows that it is usually good to keep moving. Use common sense. If you can't walk without pain, then don't run. Often you can continue the same activity, but with shorter duration and less intensity. Cross-training is often another option. If you can't run, bike. If you can't bike, row. If you can't run, walk. Sports medicine experts often recommend taking an anti-inflammatory medication (like aspirin) before your workout, and pursuing the activity as long as there is not significant pain. Check with your doctor, if you have significant pain.-By Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS

The Mrs. and I are having a wedding celebration party tomorrow for our friends and family. Because we had a very small wedding, we wanted to do something to include everyone else. So tomorrow we will get to have quite the gathering of people descend upon Arlington. I think it should be a fun time for all.

Of course, this means that we have family in town for the weekend. We went to Arlington last night to have dinner with the New York side of the family. This evening, we are going to have dessert with my Aunt who is in from Atlanta. It is another busy weekend for us.

We're getting ready to set up Mother's Day in the next week up here at the store. We are going to have a few new gift options this year. Mother's Day is actually right around the corner and falls on May 13th. Of course, we will have our cookie tins and chocolates ready to go for you. Also, it is never to early to put in a bakery order for a special cake for mom.

I know that most of our readers are not sports fans; however, I always like to champion things that I believe in and good experiences that I have. This year, I got two season tickets (mini game pack) with FC Dallas. The opening game is this Sunday, but I will not be able to attend. I contacted my ticket representative and he offered to replace the tickets with another set for a game later in the season. I call that awesome customer service and it very well may have gained him a season ticket holder for life.

As for other sports, I noticed the few voters noted that the Stanley Cup playoffs mean nothing to them. Since Dallas looks like it is about to be knocked out, the playoffs really won't matter much longer.

One day in the next year or two, the Mrs. and I are going to buy a house. As part of the planning that goes along with an event of this magnitude is the savings plan. Thankfully, we have a little bit of a head start on this and have several investments that are starting to pay dividends both literally and figuratively. Additionally, this week we have set up several others.

As with many things in life, the hardest part of it all is having the patience to see it through. But the pay off should be wonderful even if owning does require some extra work. I have already warned her that it will take me a few years to get used to not having to move every year. Of course that still leaves where are we moving to this year?

Advice: Sweating means that you're losing weight.

Myth: While we sweat, we're losing body water. This is why we notice that we lose weight after a strenuous workout. However, our body is like a sponge. When we sweat we temporarily lose water weight, but as soon as we're re-hydrated, we'll gain back that weight. Re-hydration is key to maintaining the body's salt and water balance. So remember that this is water loss, and not weight loss. Of course, it's always nice to see a lower number on the scale after a strenuous workout.-By Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS

I'm not 100% sure that global warming is going to be the end all of destruction that some predict; however, I do know that it is certainly producing some interesting weather patterns in the meantime. Texas weather is always a little different. The last few weekends have added a new meaning to that word. Last nights storm produced little more than heavy rain at the store, but I heard that other areas got some good sized hail stones.

Speaking of global warming, Texas, according to a new study, lead the way in carbon dioxide emission increases over the last 15 years. Everything is bigger in Texas. The most interesting thing that I found in the report was the fact that there are actually a couple of states that have decreased their carbon emissions.

After shopping the Dallas area and the internet for the perfect toaster oven, we have decided to keep our current toaster oven. The final piece fell in place yesterday when I did a search on eBay and discovered that we apparently own a rare Black & Decker model that sells for around 100 dollars used. Why people would want to collect toaster ovens is a mystery to me; however, I do know that this toaster oven works and has for over 20 years. The only thing left to do is give it a good scrub down and invest the money that we saved.

Friday in the News: Houston's reputation as the Barbecue Capital of Texas extends to the city's meat-filled skies. The great toaster oven search is nearing its completion. For the last few days, I have been searching for the perfect toaster oven for our current and future home. I probably put a little more effort into this than most people, but I want to make sure that I get one that will work with our future decor. The basic problem is that we really only need a toaster oven for 4 slices and small items and none of the small ones actually look nice. I am determined to make a decision today. At least my old toaster oven works for now.

Once again, I put little into the first week of the season other than the joy of watching Baseball Tonight here and there and catching a few bits of a couple of games. Nevertheless, baseball season is here and it is time take my shot at calling the division winners. My fearless prediction for the 2007 division winners:

NL East: Braves
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: San Diego
Wild Card: Mets

AL East: Yankees
AL Central: Minnesota
AL West: Angels
Wildcard: Cleveland

The Braves appear to be rebuilt for another run, and I never count my Cardinals out. The Yankees will have a hard time of it again, but I think that they will win their division again. The bigger question might be what they can do in the playoffs. This early in the season I still have a measure of hope left for the Rangers, but I'll take the money and experience in Anaheim.

This year finds us in a familiar spot with the AL East and AL Central in position as the two toughest divisions in baseball and therefore the hardest to call. The NL East is right behind them with three teams having a shot at the division and the wildcard likely to come from it as well. Furthermore, the west will be wild again in each league and the NL Central is going to be one of the best races in baseball with 4 or 5 teams having a shot at the division. The outcome in these divisions could be anyone's guess. These are my picks and I'm sticking to them at least until the All-Star break.

I came across an article in the USA Today about complications from diabetes. This is worth the read for anyone, but particularly those who have diabetes or pre-diabetes. Very often we like to stay in denial about the complications of this or other diseases because they are in the distant future which is a time frame that most of us have a hard time seeing as a reality. Nevertheless, the complications and the consequences are real although with proper diet and exercise they can often be avoided.

Quiz Day: What's Your Travel Personality?

Your Travel Personality Is: The Adventurer

For you, travel is how you learn about the world. And you like to learn the stuff that's not in guidebooks.
You truly have wanderlust. When you're not traveling, you're dreaming about where you'll go next.
And your travels are truly legendary - they leave you with stories you'll be telling for the rest of your life!

I'm not sure about the legendary travel, but the adventure part is true. I love to go new places and have new experiences. I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter. We had a wonderful day with an Easter morning breakfast and an early morning church service followed by dinner with the family in Arlington. The remainder of the day was spent as a lazy day with a nap and a dinner consisting of homemade pizza sub wraps. While it started early, it was actually quite relaxing.

One of the great things about first holidays in a new family is the chance to start new traditions. While we both carried over the tradition of an Easter card and a little gift (she got me the Lego Star Wars video game), we started a new one with the reading of Psalm 22. I figure that you don't have to have children to start a tradition and that often the best time to do so is before you have children so that the tradition is firmly planted.

As to the breakfast, we had a hand made jalapeño turkey sausage, the Dixie Diner low carb biscuits and scrambled eggs. The sausage was the clear cut winner because it was just so darn good; however, the biscuits were very good as well. This is the second item that we have tried at home from Dixie Diner and we have been very impressed with the line thus far. If you’re looking for a good low carb biscuit mix, we've got one for you here at Sugarless deLite.

Advice: Lifting weight is good for muscle strength and strong bones, but not for the heart.

Fact: There are many benefits to strength training, including healthy joints, a sense of well being, increased muscle mass, and increased bone density. Make sure you have a good diet with adequate protein (for muscles), and enough calcium and vitamin D (for bones). Strength training cannot replace aerobic exercise. A few weeks ago I would not have predicted the possibility of snow showers on the day before Easter. Not that anything will come of this, but it sure is an interesting weather pattern. If you don't like the cold, all you have to do is wait a few days. On Tuesday, we're supposed to be back into the low 80's and I don't think that we're going to look back on the cold again until October.

One of our wedding presents was a reversible all weather comforter. We put the cold weather side of it to the test last night as we huddled down for a cool weather sleep. I'm not sure about the warm weather side; however, the cool weather side had us warm and toasty all night long. At the very least, it managed to keep us warm with the apartment at 60 degrees.

Well, I realized this morning as I was getting ready to write the blog that the stat counter was no longer on the blog because of the template update. After a little bit of work, I was able to figure out how to insert the code into the new version of blogger. This draws on news feeds from across the internet on items that might be of interest to our customers like diabetes, sugar free, health, diet and exercise.

Last night, we went with my in-laws to see the Easter production at Parkway Hill Baptist church. Outside of being a little rushed from getting out of work, running an errand and grabbing a quick dinner, the evening went really well. It's the first time in a good number of years that I've gotten to an Easter play. I thought it made for a very nice evening.

Friday in the News: In 2005, we got some good news. There is a daily housekeeping task that is actually bad for you. Making your bed can be hazardous to your health because of dust mites. Dust mites thrive in the moisture we leave in our sheets. If left unchecked, these tiny unseen beasts can spread allergens. The best way to kill them: Leave your bed unmade. The little mites then dehydrate and die.(This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Last night I watch The Departed which I had borrowed from my sister and brother-in-law. I thought that it was a fairly good film but did not quiet leave up to it's hype and its Oscar award for best director. Here's the problem with the Oscar that Scorsese won, he's had better films. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Color of Money, Goodfellas and Cape Fear all come to mind. While The Departed was good, it wasn't great. I'll admit that I don't follow movies as closely as I did, but it seems to me that he got a collective Oscar rather than a merit Oscar.

Today's USA Today has a list of the top 25 Most Memorable Quotes of the last 25 years. Here is my personal top three out of their selections:

1. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"-President Reagan, June 12, 1987, appealing to the Soviet leader to remove the Berlin Wall that divided East and West German sectors. It fell in 1989. (#2)
2. "Read my lips: no new taxes."-George H.W. Bush, Aug. 18, 1988, accepting the GOP presidential nomination in New Orleans. A tax hike later in his presidency was a factor in his loss for re-election. (#6)
3. "You can't handle the truth!"-Actor Jack Nicholson as Col. Nathan Jessup in the 1992 film A Few Good Men. (#9)

I think that they left a few good ones off. If you have a top three or a top three alternative list, leave us a comment and let us know.

Just the other day I was wondering when we would get our final cold front of the season. It appears that the front has arrived. After the rain and hail last evening, a cool wind started blowing into the metroplex. The current weather report shows that the next few days will be in the 60's with a dip into the upper 40's on Saturday. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy, along with my electric meter, the cooler temperatures over the next few days.

Congratulations to the Lady Vols on their 7th national title for Division I NCAA women's basket ball. While I am personally a UT and Duke fan, I have to tip my hat to 7 championships. Very impressive.

Warning: Sports blog ahead...

Yesterday, the Florida Gators beat Ohio State to become the National Champions in NCAA Division I basketball. This is the first time that the football and basketball teams from the same university have won the national title in the same year. What makes this all the more sweet is that the Gators beat Ohio State in both football and basketball to win their two titles this year. I like the Gators, but I really dislike Ohio State. Congratulations to the Florida Gators!

The other great thing about yesterday was the full start of the baseball season. April fools saw the first game, but it was just a teaser leading up to the onslaught of games. I'm going to post my predictions for baseball next week. I'm sure that you can't wait to see those. In the meantime, I am going to sit back and enjoy opening week and the wonderful show that is Baseball Tonight on ESPN. (Yes, Rick is also very excited about the baseball season starting.)

Quiz Day: Would You Do Anything for Love?

You Would Do Most Things For Love

You are willing to go pretty far for love - but not far enough to compromise your core values.
Love is a priority for you, and you'll go further than most people to hold on to someone you love.
But killing for love? Or even taking a bullet? Probably out of the question.
No matter what, you love yourself the most!

I know that Blogthings is by no means a scientific survey; however, I would like to point out that I did actually state that I would take a bullet for my love and would be willing to kill to defend her. I'm not quiet sure how it came to the conclusion that these were probably out of the question.

We had a busy weekend in our new family this week. On Saturday night we entertained, hopefully, dinner guests. This was the first time that we have had friends over to our place. Yesterday evening, after cooking our favorite breakfast casserole for dinner, we watched the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. We are getting ready for the last movie of the trilogy that comes out in May.

It was my wife's first time to see the movie and she seemed to really enjoy it. I think that it is a classic film. While the first film has about 10 to 15 minutes of too much action, it is well paced, humorous, smart, and very well acted. I am excited about going to see the final film at the end of May as it should be quite the adventure.

In continuation of the Monday series, Common Misconceptions about Workouts and Common Sense Responses to Them:

Advice: Exercising continuously (for about 30 to 40 minutes) will benefit for your heart.

Myth: Recent studies show that short bouts of activity — even five minutes at a time — during the day have similar cardiovascular effects as continuous activity. It's most important to include physical activity in your day. So park far away from your destination and walk.-By Madelyn Fernstrom, Ph.D., CNS
