Sun Burned!

OK, I managed to go a whole four day stretch without a blog about the Dallas Mavericks. Luckily for those who don't like sports, I'm not going to say much now. I will simply say that last nights performance was sad.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, Toffee Nut, White Chocolate Raspberry and Strawberry Shortcake. Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) from 6PM to 8PM.

We have also received in our shipment of Galaxy Granola. We are now restocked on both the Cinnamon and Vanilla variety. If you have not tried it yet, this is a great low calorie, low fat and high fiber granola.

While I was reading the Dallas Morning News this weekend, I noticed an article about the DART rail expansion. I am glad to see that they will soon, within a year or two, expand the line to include stations at Fair Park and Deep Ellum. This is a long over due expansion and a great boon to the Dallas area public transportation system. However, I was saddened to see that this expansion will result in the Deep Ellum underpass, the one with all of the wonderful art, will be filled in to make way for the light-rail line. The artwork has been there for 13 years and is a great expression of the Deep Ellum spirit. I guess every form of progress has its price.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Deep Ellum art or those who have never gone by slow enough to appreciate it, I present this week’s addition to Wacky Photo Wednesday:

For those on the mailing list, we have experienced a slight technical problem with this months mailing. I do expect to have those delivered by this evening.

2 x the Fun!

That's right; the rare two day weekend provided twice the fun for yours truly. It was wonderful sleeping in late on Monday, waking up and doing nothing all day. I hope that everyone got a chance to have a wonderfully lazy Memorial Day. Of course, now we are all back to the grind.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Banana, Toffee Nut, Peach and Strawberry Shortcake.

So how about those first place Texas Rangers? I will admit that if you had offered me a bet at the beginning of the year placing them in first in the AL West, I would have bet against it. I'm still not sure if the Rangers are really the best or if the rest of the division is just that weak, but it is nice to have them in first. I do look forward to getting out to the Ballpark again soon.

Typing the blog today is rather odd. All of the routine in the store makes it seem like a Monday, everyone coming in checking on each others weekend, products being delivered, bagels being ordered (remember that they come in Friday this week because of the holiday), and all of the other standard operating procedures. But do not fear; I have not forgotten my Tuesday obligation.

Quiz Day: There has been a lot of talk about immigration lately. We're not going to get into that hornet nest here, but I did think that it would be fun to have a little quiz on American history to see if you Could Pass the US Citizenship Test?

I Passed the US Citizenship Test

Excellent - I got 10 out of 10 correct!

Four and 1/2 years of college and a degree in Government and Politics finally pays off! Take that citizenship test. Let us know how you did and leave us a comment.

As a side note, if you don't ever look at the ads from Google above the search bar, then you're missing some good laughs. Last week, one of the adds said "Eat Liver." I'm not sure how Google came up with that one.

Tomorrow (Sunday), we have all shakes for $3.49 all day (12PM-6PM).

We'd love to hear your sexy Brazilian Name too. Leave us a comment and let us know.

Graduating to the Big Time

I went to a high school graduation last evening almost 10 years to the date after my high school graduation. Not much has changed in terms of the ceremony, but this time I was sitting on the other side as an observer. What I noticed:

*You attend a graduation to see but a handful of people cross the stage and try to be polite and clap for at least half of the other people crossing.

*Cell phones seem to be great toys not only for bored relatives and friends but also for some of the bored graduates who will look back one day and think, "Well it must not have been that special, cuz I really don't remember anything about it."

*Chewing gum while crossing the stage seems to be a cool thing to do.

*The graduates can't wait for it to be over, and the parents don't want it to end.

*People cry...Mom's especially.

So to all of the graduates, I offer my sincere congratulations to the class of 2006. Welcome to the rest of your life and your next journey. May your years be filled with adventure and your adventures be filled with joy.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Peanut Butter, Peach and Very Berry.

Friday Fun Fact: In 1845, baseball games were over after one team scored 21 runs. According to the 20 Rules drawn up by Alexander Cartwright for the Knickerbockers ball club in 1845, considered to be the first formal regulations for baseball, runs were called "aces," and a team needed to score 21 to win. Though many of Cartwright's rules remain in the modern game in some form, such as three strikes constituting an out, several of his original regulations have changed. For example, according to Cartwright, a ball "knocked out of the field" was a foul ball. (This fact brought to you by the Fact or Crap daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday wishes to Masaharu Morimoto aka, The Iron Chef. This guy is an inspiration in the kitchen and truly one of the greatest cooks in the world. Want a free mini (4oz) yogurt today? (Limit one per person.) Tell us what mythical use Coca-Cola has for highway patrol men.

Heartache

The loss last night hurt. I'll leave it at that. The good news is that the Dallas Mavericks started their series against the Spurs in a similar fashion. The previous result was a great series with a wonderful result. I'm betting for the same here.

We have received our shipment of bagels, pitas and English Muffins. If you're a Weight Watcher®, don't forget all of our other great items, over 100 of them, like salad dressings, fruit spreads, coffee syrups, Chocolites, pasta and yogurt.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Roasted Almonds, Peach and Very Berry. We have our Coke Floats special for $2.99 today.

We received several shipments in today. Now back in stock: Baja Bob's Mai Tai Mix, Eat Well, Be Well Golden Maple Oatmeal, and DaVinci's Syrups (Butter Rum, Peach and Raspberry).

It seems that Snappoll.com does not wish to cooperate with me today, so I can not yet tell you last week’s winner or create a poll for this week. Modern technology gives and modern technology takes away.

However, the random link is still a go. This one combines two wonderful things: Star Wars and Origami. I hope that you all enjoy this.

The Lay of the Land

If you've ever wondered about the layout of the Sugarless deLight Blog, the answer is simple: We provide information and distractions that we hope our readers find interesting, fun or useful and most of the links, we use as our own personal portal to the web. As new sites are added to the links, it is often a result of it being a site of personal interest to someone at the store. Of course, the exceptions are the Virtual Sugarless D links, Friends of Sugarless D links and the Other Blogs to Read @ Ur Own Risk links which are reserved for our other on-line locations, our customers' store sites and our customers favorite Blogs. If you want in, let me know by leaving a comment.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Roasted Almonds, Peach and Very Berry. We have our buy one, get one free special this evening from 6 PM to 8 PM (Limit one, excludes XL). Ask for the special and save.

Now for your Wacky Photo Fix:

This is what they would say if they told the truth.

Thanks to everyone who left a comment yesterday. I thought that the quiz was a pretty good one. It seems that you enjoyed it as well. I hope that everyone has a wonderful day and that we see you soon.

MAVERICKS!

As I was leaving work last evening, the crew asked me for my prediction of the Mavericks game. I told them that if the Mavericks were up by 14 or more at the half, they were going to win. I was right, but little did I know that the victory would include yet another overtime. It was a fitting end to one of the closest playoff rounds in recent memory. Now, the Mavericks have to make it count by beating Phoenix and getting into the ever elusive NBA Finals. Go Mavs!

(Don't forget to use your Mavericks Playoff Yogurt Pass today if you have one from the mailing list. Not on the list? Send an email to us at info@sugarlessdelite.com and leave a message letting us know that you would like to join and your email address. The June email is coming up in just a few days!)

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Roasted Almonds, Peach and Very Berry. Today is $1.79 cone day. (Regularly $2.49)

Quiz Day: Find out a little bit more about yourself by taking this quiz. Don't forget to post your results in the comments section. (Participation makes the world go round.) What Temperment Are You?

I Apparently Have a Choleric Temperament

I am a person of great enthusiasm - easily excited by many things.
Unsatisfied by the ordinary, I reach for an epic, extraordinary life.
I want the best. The best life. The best love. The best reputation.

I posses a sharp and keen intellect. My mind is my primary weapon.
Strong willed, nothing can keep me down. My energy can break down any wall.
I'm an instantly passionate person - and this passion gives me an intoxicating power over others.

At I worst, I am a narcissist. Full of myself and even proud of my faults.
Stubborn and opinionated, I know what I think is right. End of discussion.
A bit of a misanthrope, I often see others as weak, ignorant, and inferior.

Wow, these things are deep. One final note, I added another blog to the Other Blogs to Read @ Ur Own Risk. Welcome the LAPD. Sounds odd, but it's an interesting read if you like true crime and bizzare happingings.

So much for the planning...

Do you ever have those weekends that begin with grand plans of fun and end up being gigantic lazy, do nothing fests? That's kind of how my Saturday went. No report from the Wildflower festival. I opted for video games and sleep instead. It was a wise choice.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Mint, Roasted Almonds, Peach and Very Berry.

I do hope that everyone with a Mavericks Playoff Yogurt Pass gets a free yogurt tomorrow, because I don't want to have them come so close only to see them not finish the Spurs off. This is a big game and a big step for the franchise. It's time for the Mavericks to move forward.

Here is an interesting excerpt from You: The Owner's Manual: (An Insider's Guild to the Body That Will Make You Healthier and Younger.)

Your digestive system has two main hormones that control hunger and appetite. Ghrelin is secreted by the stomach and increases your appetite. When you stomach's empty, it sends ghrelin out requesting food. Leptin tells your brain that you're full. When you eat, your fat cells secrete it so that you stop eating. One of the biggest evil influences on our diet is the presence of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a sugar substitute that itself is a sugar found in soft drinks and many other sweet, processed foods. The problem is that HFCS inhibits leptin secretion, so you never get the message that you're full. And it never shuts off ghrelin, so, even though you have food in your stomach, you constantly get the message that you're hungry.

The double whammy on our hormones has contributed enormously to our collective enormity. When you consider that many American women will often obtain as much as 50 percent of their daily calories from salad dressing (which contains HFCS), you can see the problem. While food manufacturers may eliminate fat, they make up for its taste with sugar and HFCS-which are simply empty calories that serve no nutritional purpose.

Through sleep, your brain also plays a role in gut functions. If you want to eat less, get more sleep. When you don't sleep enough, more ghrelin is secreted and less leptin is released. So the lack of sleep can have the same effect as HFCS by causing you to eat more often.

What's the bottom line? Eating healthy is a little bit harder in today's society of highly processed food. But making good choices doesn't have to be hard. When you're in a grocery store, take a little time and read the label before you put the item in your cart. If you want great sugar free options, come by Sugarless deLite. Every item here is sugar free and you'll never have to worry about HFCS. Remember that paying a little attention to items that are good for you can have a wonderful payoff down the road for your health.

Super Saturday

Wow, what a busy first hour! The funny thing about retail or the restaurant business is that the business is almost always in waves. The first hour today was non-stop, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next 20 to 30 minutes is slow before the next wave comes into the store.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Vanilla Malt, Toffee Nut, Banana Cheesecake and Very Berry.

Don't forget that this weekend is a Pecan Pie Weekend. All Pecan Pies are $12.99 this weekend (regularly $19.99). Of course, we also have all of our crème pies for $12.99 as well throughout the end of the month (regularly $19.99). This is a great weekend to stock up on pies.

The Galaxy Granola has arrived and is going strong. Our customers have had a great reaction to both the Cinnamon and Vanilla varieties. Come in and try a sample today.

Your Saturday Distraction: What's Your Monster Name?

Sugarless deLite's Monster Profile

Everybody's working for the weekend

The weekend is upon us once again. It looks like the summer weather is also upon us. This is going to be a weekend with a little heat (97-Today, 95-Saturday, 93-Sunday) with no rain. This is great weather for a frozen yogurt from Sugarless deLite.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Vanilla Malt, Toffee Nut, Banana Cheesecake and Very Berry.

The Galaxy Granola has arrived! This granola is available in Cinnamon and Vanilla, has no sugar, has organic ingredients, is high fiber (6g) and low in calories (87). The 1/2 cup serving is only one point for Weight Watchers®. Come in and try a sample today.

Friday Fun Fact: According to the 2004 figures published by the World Bank, Norway has the number one per capita income at $38,730. Number two is Switzerland at $36,170 and number three is the United States of America at $35,400. Three countries tie for last place out of 141 countries overall: Burundi, Republic of Congo, and Ethiopia-where the average per capita income is roughly $100 per year. (This fact brought to you by the Fact or Crap daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday wishes go to Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend of The Who. Want a free mini (4oz) yogurt today? (Limit one per person.) Tell us, in person, what animated film Mr. Townshend co-produced.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and a great start to there weekend.

So Close...

This time the Dallas Mavericks were on the losing end of another great game. Hopefully, they will come home to the ACC and finish this series out in style tomorrow evening. When they do win, make sure to check the blog the following day for another blog reader only special.

For anyone trying to think of something to do this weekend, there is yet another festival: The Wildflower! That's right; the City of Richardson has its annual arts and music festival this weekend. There is a great line up of music and events to satisfy the whole family. I'm looking forward to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Vanilla Malt, Toffee Nut, Banana Cheesecake and Very Berry. Today is $2.99 Coke Float day. Get a great float for $2.99 all day long.

Today is of course bagel day and thankfully UPS has chosen to deliver on time this week. We have received our shipment of bagels, pitas and English Muffins. If you're a Weight Watcher, don't forget all of our other great items, over 100 of them, like salad dressings, fruit spreads, coffee syrups, Chocolites, pasta and yogurt.

German Chocolate Cake turned out to be the winner of the favorite yogurt flavor poll. Which may explain why it is one of the more frequently run flavors. Although, participation in the poll was smaller than I expected. Here is another one for you to voice your opinion on: What Is Your Favorite Sport? Don't worry; I included an option for non sport lovers.

I came across this while I was on the City of Richardson site for the Wildflower festival. It's not nearly as weird or fun as the normal random link; however, it is something to be aware of while driving around Richardson.

Happy National Day of Norway

When trying to think of a title for the blog and all else fails, I like to find interesting little facts at Wikipedia. If you've never been, it's worth the time to search for all types of topics.

So today is yet another Hump day. Everything seems a bit slower this week. There is nothing major in the sports world, except for tonight's game. Go Mavericks! (Although, I'm sure that a good number of you out there probably like a slow week in sports.) Not much in the world of entertainment except for the continual fall of the box office. Slow Wednesdays might just be the slowest kind of day.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Vanilla Malt, Toffee Nut, Banana Cheesecake and Juicy Raspberry. Like every Wednesday this month, we have our buy one, get one free special this evening from 6 PM to 8 PM (Limit one, excludes XL). Ask for the special and save.

Today's Wacky Photos are from a collection that my best friend sent to me. That's right; I said photos because there are so many of them in the email that I received. Here are the top three, in my humble opinion:

Dang It! So Freaking Close!

I can fly?...I Can Fly!!!

"Come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth."

Hope you enjoy the photos. Kuddos to the first person who can give me the name of the person who is quoted in the last caption. If you know it, leave the answer in the comments section. Have a great day and enjoy the lovely weather.

Big D Leads this Texas Two Step

I'm going to try and keep this short. The Dallas Mavericks continue to impress. The last two games at home are the kind of games that the Mavericks of old would loss and that the San Antonio Spurs would win. What we are seeing in this series is the coming of age of the Mavericks and the passing of the torch from the Spurs. Now its up to the Mavericks to rip that torch from the Spurs hands tomorrow night in San Antonio.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butterscotch, Coffee Royal, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry. Today is also $1.79 cone day. (Regularly $2.49)

We will hopefully have a new product in by this weekend. It is a one point granola for Weight Watchers®. Called Galaxy Granola, one of our customers brought this product to our attention and we thought so highly of it that we immediately ordered several cases. Two varieties will soon be available: Cinnamon and Vanilla.

Quiz Day: This one is deep, so brace yourself...What Brady Are You?

I Am Peter Brady

You're cute, energetic, and a loyal friend to many.
And while you may not have super model hair, you hold your own in grooviness.

What did we ever do before the internet? Let us know what Brady you are by leaving us a comment. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Not so Tasty Addison.

I attended the Taste Addison festival on Saturday evening this weekend and will admit that I was not very impressed. The problem might seem like an odd one to many; however, the issue lies in the fact that there was quite simply too much food per serving. At four to five dollars per serving, the natural thought might be that the expense was an issue. Instead, I found myself receiving these full size portions and filling up by the second booth.

I wish that the venders would have given smaller amounts for less money. A small sampling at 2 to 3 dollars would have been preferable to the full size serving at 4 to 5 dollars. Then I might have been able to enjoy more of the tastes of Addison. The festival seemed to have missed its calling...and don't even get me started on the Pirate's Den ride at the carnival.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Butterscotch, Coffee Royal, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry.

The greatest thing about Addison on Saturday evening was walking to Sherlock's from my parking spot after leaving the festival and hearing the entire town erupt in cheers. I was able to get into Sherlock's to see the final 2 seconds of the Dallas Maverick's game. Closer that it should have been, but a victory none the less. I hope that Dirk's ankle holds up and that the defense is a little more solid for the game this evening.

I also hope that those of you on our email list who received the Dallas Maverick's yogurt pass are enjoying each and every one of these victories with a free yogurt. Not on the list? Email us at info@sugarlessdelite.com and leave a message letting us know that you would like to join and your email address.

One of the questions that we often hear is "Do you use Stevia?" Our answer is a simple no with the reasoning that it is not an approved sweetener by the Food & Drug Administration. Many people believe that as a natural sweetener, the product has to be safe. Unfortunatly, this is not always true. This article by the Nutrition Action Newsletter explains a little more about Stevia and reaches a logical conclusion that I would expand to include the use of Spenda® and NutraSweet®. Hope this helps everyone.

Sunny Side Up

Now this is what I call some nice weather. It is a perfect day to get out and about to any of the events going on in Dallas/Fort Worth this weekend. Of course, it is also a great day to finish off any last minute Mother's Day shopping needs or to stop in and get a yogurt at Sugarless deLite.

The advertisements have made their return to the blog as well as the Google search bar. If you're curious about something while you're on our blog, then you can type in a search and have your results open in a new window for you.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Coffee Royal, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry.

Happy Mother's Day. If you've ever wondered what you're worth or if you've ever wondered what your mother gave up to stay at home with you, then go to Salary.com to see the results of their Mom Salary.

On the slightly more irrevernt side of the equation, I give you your Saturday Distraction: Who's Your Mommy?

Sugarless D's Mommy Is Katie Couric

What You Call Her: Mother

What people say about yo momma: Yo mama's so clumsy she got tangled up in a cordless phone!

Lastly, I would like to welcome the newest Friend of Sugarless D, NetNutritionist.com. Here is some sound nutritional advise and coaching. Welcome.

Taste Sugarless

This weekend marks the annual event know as Taste Addison. It will be my first time to experience this wonderful display of pallet pleasing food options. The weather looks like it will be perfect for tomorrow. If you're on your way there this weekend, don't forget to come by Sugarless deLite for a healthy snack after you've had your fill of all of the tasty foods.

If you need a Mother's Day cake or other fresh baked item from Sugarless deLite this weekend, then make sure to call and order by 8 PM this evening. Need options? Check out our cake and pie order forms.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Coffee Royal, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry.

Friday Fun Fact: The phrase "mad as a hatter" came from the fact that hat makers tended to go insane. In the 18th and 19th centuries, hat makers used mercury for curing felt, causing as many as one in ten to go insane at one point. Unfortunately, the thousands of hat workers who handled the chemical did not know it was a deadly poison, whose side effects were anemia, inflammation of the gums, kidney damage...and insanity. Lewis Carroll's Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland was therefore rooted in reality. (This fact brought to you by the Fact or Crap daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday to Sophia Coppola. This wonderful director and not so great actress sure has some of the family talent. Want a free mini (4oz) yogurt today? (Limit one per person.) Tell us Sofia Coppola's most famous cousin. (Hint: Not Jason Schwartzman.)

Final Note: I've added another blog link to the Other Blogs to Read @ Ur Own Risk section. Welcome Newsvine, a huge collection of blogs and news. Enjoy.

The Price of Free Speech

It's a free country and you can say what you want; but if you're the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and you say bad things about the officiating, it'll cost you. Mark Cuban was fined 100,000 dollars for his May 7th repost of How to Improve NBA Playoff Officiating. If you haven't read Blog Maverick, which can be found in our Other Blogs to Read @ Ur Own Risk section of links, then it is worth checking out. Even if you're not a sports fan, Cuban pushes all kinds of buttons. (Remember, leave us a comment if you would like us to add a blog that you like or write.)

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter, Angel Food Cake and Juicy Raspberry. Today is $2.99 Coke Float day. Get a great float for $2.99 all day long.

The poll of the day is at the request of several customers. I have taken some of the most popular yogurt flavors, excluding the ever present Chocolate Decadence and World Class Vanilla and asked the hard hitting question: What is Your Favorite Yogurt Flavor. Last weeks results were split evenly between Tom Cruise being certifiably insane and people excusing his insanity for his hotness. It should be noted that everyone agreed that his is insane.

Today's random link is for anyone who has ever watched a James Bond film. Apparently a lot of people are not happy with the choice of the new Bond and have started a website to vent their disgust. It make for a good little read and is not nearly as disturbing as last weeks link.

10 May 2006

Getting the Split

Yesterday was a big day. First the Dallas Mavericks came out and manhandled the San Antonio Spurs to get the series tied at 1-1. Doing what all good teams should, they bounced back from a tough loss and made a statement. Now they have to match this characteristic with the one that the Spurs could not do, hold home court.

As if that was not enough, E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) started with its traditional day of announcements before the first official day. Don't know what E3 is? Think of it as the Super Bowl of Nerd Dom. The single greatest event in gaming, E3 is where all of the big boys (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony) show off all of there new toys (Xbox 360, Wii and Play Station 3) and all of the upcoming games and peripherals. This thing is huge. One of the employees yesterday said "I hope that you appreciate the fact that I am missing the coverage of E3 to come into work today."

So what was so great about the day before the first day? If you want the full rundown, then go over to Gamespot. But here is a brief rundown for you: Halo 3 trailer with a 2007 release date, Fable 2 trailer, Gear of War first level demo, Final Fantasy XIII trailer, GTA dual release on the 360 and the PS3, Resident Evil on the Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Wii controller, Final Fantasy III for the DS and Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS3. Looks like the next few years are going to be expensive.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter, Boysenberry and Pina Colada. Remember today is buy one, get one free from 6 PM to 8 PM (excludes XL).

We did get back in stock the yellow corn taco shells, Blueberry Doctor Rite protein bars and the Cinnamon Granola.

Now it's time to honor our Wednesday obligation by bringing you your Wacky Photo fix. If you have never heard of a little thing called cosplay, it is where people dress up as there favorite characters from anime or games. Some of these people really get into the whole thing and it is quite an interesting subculture. Here is a set of two photos with someone who has dressed as an elite solder from Halo.

Now to reveal the man who spent a lot of time on making this cosplay outfit.

That's a lot of work and effort and an excellent job to boot. Where do people find all of this spare time? And you thought that Halloween costumes were scary.

09 May 2006

The Heat is On

Hot and muggy is very much my least favorite combination of weather. I don't like hot to begin with, but the muggy makes the hot unbearable. It's a good thing that I get to work in a nice cool environment. There is nothing like a little air conditioning and yogurt to make a hot day go away.

I'm not sure how many of you ever click on our links section, but here is my own version of a slickdeals. I got an email from Bath and Body Works and they have a pretty good offer right now on some of their candles. If you’re looking for a non candy/flower gift for Mother's Day, this is a good one. The large RealEssence candles are 10 dollars each. Get 30 dollars worth of anything in the store and you can enter the promotional code REALDEAL at check out to get 10 dollars off. You could get 3 large candles for 20 dollars (regularly 51). Get two for mom and one for you...not too shabby.

Several shows are serving up their final episodes for the season tonight on TV. Of note: Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. These are two of the best shows on television. The only good thing about them ending tonight is that I know I will be able to pick up the DVDs in a few months and play catch up.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter, Boysenberry and Pina Colada. Today is also $1.79 cone day. (Regularly 2.49)

Quiz Day: Find out a little more about you by taking this quiz that was probably created by a college kid for his programming class. This is the Three Dimension Luck and Power Test.

I Am Internal - Realist - Empowered

You feel your life is controlled internally.
If you want something, you make it happen.
You don't wait around for things to go your way.
You value your independence and don't like others to have control.

You are a realist when it comes to luck.
You don't attribute everything to luck, but you do know some things are random.
You don't beat yourself up when bad things happen to you...

Remember Your Mother!

Just another warning to everyone out there, Mother's Day is this Sunday the 14th of May. Remember to remember your mother. Come into day for our 5 dollar shipping special for the lower 48 states (in store only). We can get your order there in time for Mother's Day.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Peanut Butter, Boysenberry and Pina Colada.

The bagels have finally arrived! Today only there is a special on the bagels: Buy one bag at $4.79 (regular price) and get the second at $1.99. The bagels must be bought in pairs to receive the special. Limited to the quantities on hand and excludes the bagels in the freezer.

As for my weekend in sports wrap, I'm not panicked. The Dallas Mavericks seemed to back off in the second half of yesterday's game, but I have a feeling that this is how this series is going to go. One team is going to give a little too much and the other will take advantage of it. The key is not game one which the Mavericks could have won but game two which the Mavericks need to win. I'm not worried now, although I might be if the next game goes the same way. The Mavericks are good enough to beat this team. They just need to prove that they are good enough to beat them in the post-season.

On the other hand, the Texas Rangers might just find out if they are for real or pretenders in the next few weeks. After being swept by the Yankees this weekend, they face some stiff competition in the next few teams that they play. Their standing at the end of this month should be a good indicator of the rest of the season.

I almost forgot about Cowboy's Rookie Mini-Camp. Call me when the season starts.

"NO BAGELS 4 U!"

I hope that everyone had a wonderfully safe El Cinco de Mayo. Mine was spent with a little warm up yoga followed by time spent with friends and crazy animals. Three cats and one dog make for a lot of entertainment in a house.

Unfortunately, the bagel shipment did not arrive yesterday. We will not have our bagels until Monday the 8th. We made every attempt to get them here for today; however, UPS was less than helpful in this matter. We will have a special on Monday the 8th for the bagels. Buy one bag at $4.79 and get the second bag for $1.99 (must be bought in pairs). This is limited to the quantities on hand and excludes any bagels in the freezer. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Caramel Fudge, Cappuccino, Boysenberry and Pine Colada.

I've added a few features to the blog. You can now use the search bar above the first entry to search the web for anything that you may wish to find. Also, on the side bar there are a few links that those of you with your own blogs or websites might be interested in for adding a feature or two to them.

Your Saturday Distraction: Find Your Life Path Number.

My Life Path Number is 11

Your purpose in life is to inspire others

Your amazing energy draws people to me, and you give them great insight in return.
You hold a great amount of power over others, without even trying.
You have the makings of an inventor, artist, religious leader, or prophet.

In love, you are sensitive and passionate. You connect with your partner on a very deep level.

You have great abilities, but you are often way too critical of yourself.
You don't fit in - and instead of celebrating your differences, you dwell on them.
You have high expectations of yourself. But sometimes you set them too high and don't achieve anything.

I always thought being a prophet might make for a fun and exciting career path. Oh well, have fun with this one and let us know what your number is. Have a great weekend.

Boo UPS

Sometimes I feel a little like Han Solo from Star Wars. When things are left to other people and everything goes wrong, all I can do is sit here and say, "It's not my fault." The bagel shipment has still not arrived. Western Bagel shipped on time and UPS dropped the ball (shipment). We have been told by UPS that they "Do not know where the packages are." It seems that somebody is not doing their job; however, I assure you that we are doing our due diligence on this matter.

Outside of the frustration with UPS, the rest of the day looks to be a good one. We've made some fair progress on our main webpage this week. We've added a site map and corrected some categories. Look for additional improvements in the weeks to come. Also, if you need to send a Mother's Day (May 14th) gift, now is the time to shop. Orders placed by May 7th, 2006 will arrive on time for Mother's Day to any of the lower 48 states.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Caramel Fudge, Cappuccino, Boysenberry and Pine Colada.

Friday Fun Fact: Finger nails grow faster than toenails. Finger nails grow four times faster than toenails-and they grow faster in warm weather. Men's fingernails grow faster than women's. The longer the finger nail, the faster the nail growth. The longest fingernails on record measured 20 feet long and belonged to a man in India who grew them for 48 years without cutting them. (This fact brought to you by the Fact or Crap daily calendar.)

Happy El Cinco de Mayo! Tell us how the name dragoon was derived and receive a free mini yogurt. (Offer good today only from 12 PM to 6 PM.) I've provided you the ground work, now it's up to you.

Sugarless D on MySpace

That's right, we've joined the 75 million other people on this planet in that bizarre virtual playground known as MySpace. This site is created and run by our very own Stevie B. If your one of the millions with an account, then click on the link under the Virtual Sugarless D tag and make a friends request. We'd love to have you as our friend.

Has anyone else noticed that the ads on the bar are changing? I thought this is an interesting facet of the Google ads program. The algorithm adjusts continually according to the content of this blog. If I were to blog everyday about the Dallas Mavericks (I'm sure some of you feel that I do already), the ad program would pick up the change and start selling advertisements for the NBA. Isn't technology wonderful?

Today is Thursday which is Bagel day at Sugarless deLite. However, our shipment has been re-scheduled by UPS. I'm not sure why. Unfortunatly, this means that we will not receive our shipment until tomorrow. If you need yours today, we do have plenty available in our freezer.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Caramel Fudge, Cappuccino, Boysenberry and Pine Colada. Our special today is the $2.99 Cola Float. Try one today with Diet Coke, Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, Diet Root Beer or Diet Dr. Pepper.

Today's random poll is just having a little fun with one of pop cultures favorite studs. It's a simple poll: Is Tom Cruise Crazy? The results of last weeks poll showed that people preferred pastries over chocolate. Can that be right?

Lastly, we have the random link of the day. This was provided to me by one of our favorite former employees who get it from her professor in a psychology class. This is a real site with an interactive game and quizzes and lots of information. And yes, it is truly random.

At a loss for words...

I've been talking about yoga now for over a month, but my friends and I are no longer taking the Tuesday night class. I'm not sure what to say. When all else fails, I'll just talk a little business.

We have gotten back in the LaTortilla Garlic Tortillas, the Low Carb Enchantment White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies, the Walden Farms Ranch travel packets, Walden Farms Scampi Sauce and the Tea Tech Raspberry Tea. I do also expect to receive a shipment of DaVinci English Toffee flavoring syrup later today.

In addition to these items, we have a new item in the store: Perfect Sweet® Xylitol Sweetener (8oz). Perfect Sweet® is a 7 on the Glycemic Index. This sweetener tastes like sugar, bakes like sugar and is all natural.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cappuccino, Boysenberry and Pine Colada. Our yogurt is buy one, get one free this evening from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Today is a double dip Wacky Photo Wednesday. The first will take you back. Think the gas prices are high right now? This is a photo that will make you wish for the good old days when gas was reasonable and you didn't have to sell your soul to fill your gas tank.

This photo is from my adventures at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival and features three generations of Renaissance participants. No, they weren't on the clock. This was just a weekend of fun for the whole family. Don't worry. You don't have to dress up to enjoy the festival.

One last note for everyone, our crème pies are just $12.99 this month (regularly $19.99). We are now also baking Banana and Lemon crème pies. If you want one for this weekend, give us a call at 972.644.2000.

Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks!

Looks like it might rain today. I guess that would be a good thing for Mother Nature. Just remember that you shouldn't be afraid to get out in it. After all, a little water never hurt anyone except for the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cappuccino, Boysenberry and Pina Colada.

While the May calendar has changed the specials around a little, Tuesday is still cone day. Come in and try one of our cones for $1.79 (Regularly $2.49). The cones are still less than two points for Weight Watchers® and are a great option if you're driving around.

Quiz Day: This one is a long quiz. Take your time and answer honestly. Today's quiz is What is Your Star Wars Personality? You can copy the link and post it in the comments section if you would like to share (make sure to delete the HTLM code). If you would like to see my results, you can click on the link below; however, I do recommend taking the quiz first.

Click to see my Star Wars Personality!!

Hope everyone enjoys the quiz. We would also like to say hello to our newest addition to the Friends of Sugarless D links: Texas Vision Care. See you tommorrow for Wacky Photo Wednesday.

Raise Your Freak Flag

As promised, here is my review of the Scarborough Renaissance Festival. The day was quite enjoyable, added by good weather and a friendly band to with which to travel. The fair grounds were well kept and lay out was like a miniature village. With all kinds of actors and vendors dressed as old Renaissance citizens, the mood was playful and amicable. I do have an appreciation for all of those who were dressed to play the part. The weather was a perfect Texas spring day, which means that the participants had to be feeling the heat.

The drink options were favorable and the food was tasty, even if most of it came on a stick. The food and drink average $4-5 dollars per round. There were also plenty of shops, shows and games to keep everyone busy. Overall, I would say that the $18.99 per person entry cost was well justified. If you can take yourself back in time and put up with the heat, flies, smells and other minor inconveniences, then I certainly would recommend a day at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Butter Pecan, Lemon and Raspberry Cheesecake.

This is the calendar for the month of May. Please note that all of our creme pies are $12.99 for the month (excluding the 12th-14th). Please pre-order your pies. (Available flavors are Chocolate, Vanilla, Key Lime, Cappuccino and Coconut. After May the 7th, we will also have Banana and Lemon available.)

It seems that Monday's have morphed into a time for a weekend round-up in sports. This will replace the article for Mondays. This will more than likely be a permanent feature. I make no apologies, I am a sports fan. We learned a few things this weekend. Here is a list of the top five:

The Dallas Stars are regular season pretenders and probably will be as long as Marty Turco is the goalie. Not that it is his entire fault mind you. To be sure the rest of the team played flat for most of the games; however, it might have been a good idea to wait to see if Turco's previous playoff flap was an abjuration or a trend before signing him to a three year extension.

The Dallas Mavericks can play the close games as well as the blow outs. This is the character that the Stars lack. The Mavericks, when not playing their best can still grind it out. This team should go deep. If the Spurs continue to struggle with the Kings, the Mavericks could reap an added benefit of facing a tired team in the second round.

The Rangers actually do have pitching, hitting and defense. Since the hitting has come around in the middle of the month, the team has been on a tear. If this continues, they might actually be a team worth watching. Let’s not forget that they are still in talks with Roger Clemens. (One can dream.)

Albert Pujols is the greatest player in the game right now. If you don't want him to hit, then walk him. He crushed the April home run record with 14 and might have gotten one more if the Nationals didn't walk him in all for at bats yesterday. He currently leads in every major offensive category except for batting average (.346). With history as a guide, I predict this trend to continue. He is just that good.

The NFL draft is the most over-rated event in sports. The amount of time and energy that people put in to this amazes me. The interesting thing about every draft does not take place on draft day. It works itself out during the next few seasons as teams get to see whether they chose wisely or poorly. People stay glued to their TV's all day to see the same information that they can get in the newspaper the next day.
