Three the Hard Way

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, Chocolate Banana, Orange Vanilla and Very Berry.

Today is Cone Day! All cones are $1.85 all day (regularly $2.72). Apparently, I was looking at the wrong calendar yesterday when I posted cone day.

Today started off with a three hour doctor’s visit. What a way to start the day. Of course any reader of this blog would know of my dislike of the doctor; however, after several days of soreness in the back and a troubled night sleeping, I figured it would be a good idea to get it checked out since I am going to have a busy weekend. Thankfully, two hours of waiting to see the doctor and one hour of additional waiting with a little bit of X-Rays ended with the doctor telling me that it was just a minor sprain and sending me on my way with a script for stronger than aspirin pain relief.

We’re coming down to the wire on the wedding. Tonight, I am getting my haircut and putting some finishing touches on the apartment and tomorrow we are going to dinner with my family. After that, we have the rehearsal and then the wedding on Saturday. It’s hard to believe that after waiting so long, it is almost here. :)

Thank goodness that you can get both great tasting and good for you at Sugarless deLite.

Final Four

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, Chocolate Banana, Orange Vanilla and Very Berry.

Today is Cone Day! All cones are $1.85 all day (regularly $2.72).

We have received the Almond Fudge Chocolite back in stock today. It has been 4 long months, but the company is running production of them again a long with their full line.

Today, we had our final premarital counseling session. The name really doesn't do this justice. I wonder if a lot of people are turned off on the idea of counseling because the implication is that they are going to try and fix or tell you what is wrong. Our experience was quite to the contrary. I believe that we both found our time to be up-lifting and supporting.

I think that it is all setting in now how close we really are to making this a reality. In just over four days, we will be married. This is a very exciting thought. While the wedding day will be joyful and the honeymoon will be a lot of fun, we are most excited about being together for all the days after. After more than three years of dating, we have learned to love each other rather than being in love with each other. :)

Quiz Day: What Color Is Your Brain?

Your Brain is Green

Of all the brain types, yours has the most balance.
You are able to see all sides to most problems and are a good problem solver.
You need time to work out your thoughts, but you don't get stuck in bad thinking patterns.

You tend to spend a lot of time thinking about the future, philosophy, and relationships (both personal and intellectual).

It is amazing how one little thing can ruin an otherwise perfect day. Yesterday, some one decided to not pay attention while they were driving and run a red light into my car. Here's the good news: It appears that no one was seriously hurt and my car seems to have minor damage. The bad news is that I know that, even though this is an open and shut case on who was at fault (thankfully, I have a witness), this will be a bit of a hassle. With 5 days to go until the wedding, I would rather not have to deal with this.

On the other hand, at least I was able to react quickly enough to the oncoming blur of a car to hit my brakes, turn my car away and lay on the horn. (Thank you 20 plus years of video games for the training.) Without these actions, there would have been a T-bone scene in the middle of Frankford at Pear Ridge because the other driver was blissfully unaware of the cars stopped on either side of them or my white car coming into the intersection on my green light.

With a stiff back and bruised elbow, I feel fairly fortunate. This one could have been a lot worse. Besides, it makes me all the more thankful for what I have and what I will gain this weekend. So despite the upcoming hassle with insurance company, the rest of the week looks promising with a minor list of things to accomplish and much joy to share.

Today, you can get a free small yogurt by telling us the secret word: Sudoku

Last night as I was waiting for my oil change, tire rotation and alignment, I read through a couple of days worth of business pages and Friday's Quick (The Dallas Morning News mini paper). At the back of the Quick, they have the mind games. Since the options were Boggle, the crossword or the Sudoku puzzle, I went with my strength and ran away from the spelling. It was the first time that I have been able to sit down and focus on a Sudoku puzzle.

I was felling quite proud of myself as I neared the completion of the puzzle. The feeling of pride lasted for about 2 and 1/2 seconds. I soon noticed that I had repeating eights twice. It was at that time that they finished my car so I put it down and went about my business. Mark my word, I will finish the puzzle.

Saturday Distraction: What Do Your Hands Say About You?

What Your Hands Say About You

You are logical, analytical, and rational. You have good verbal skills.

Idealistic and dreamy, you tend toward the impractical. You have a knack for getting yourself in sticky situations.

Brainy and intelligent, you are intellectual to the point of being incomprehensible.

Your emotions tend to be relaxed and uncomplicated. You don't read too much into things.

After a few slightly warmer days than we are used to for this time of year, it looks like we are going to cool down just a little bit and maybe get some rain this weekend. I just glad to see that the evenings will once again be dipping into the mid-40's.

Friday Fun Fact: Part of the massive computer database that was the heart of the Terrorist Information Awareness Program, scrapped in 2003, could identify people based on the way they walk. The University of Georgia got about a million dollars from the Pentagon to develop a radar system that can read people's gait. Apparently, our walk is distinctive enough that the system can identify an individual more than 85 percent of the time. (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Michael Saul Dell. As you may know Mr. Dell is one of the pioneers of the modern computer age much like Mr. Ford was at the turn of the century with automobiles. Mr. Dell graduated from UT Austin (Go Longhorns!) where he dropped out at the age of 19 to start a little company called Dell Computer Corporation which is the most profitable computer maker in the world. Bagels, English Muffins and Pita have arrived. We have all varieties on hand (Blueberry, Sweet Wheat, Cinnamon, Onion, White and Perfect 10). Come and get yours today. Perfect for Weight Watchers®! Over the past few weeks, we have seen an increase in the popularity of the Perfect 10 bagel. While it is two points instead of one like the other items, it has a whopping 18 grams of protein and 9 grams of fiber per bagel and a wonderful seed and nut taste.

My apartment is a disaster zone! It is one of those inevitable events when doing a deep clean. It always seems worst right before the calm because, to do it right, you have to tear things down to build it like new. The good news is that the bedroom closet is almost done and the living room is coming along. In the next night or two, I shall tackle the bedroom and then I can begin phase two. I guess that, in a way, I am just getting my spring cleaning done a little early this year.

Last week shows that our responding readers were split between Valentine's Day being a cheesy, but fun holiday or nothing but a Hallmark holiday. This week I'm skipping the poll and including an email that I got that I thought was pretty funny (and sometimes true). Enjoy:

WORDS WOMEN USE:

"Fine."
This is the word women use to end an argument when
they are right and you need to shut up.

"Five minutes."
If she is getting dressed this is half an hour. Five
minutes is only five minutes if you have just been
given 5 more minutes to watch the game before helping
around the house.

"Nothing"
This is the calm before the storm. This means
"something" and you should be on your toes. Arguments
that begin with "Nothing" usually end in "Fine".

"Go ahead..."
This is a dare, not permission. Don't do it.

LOUD SIGH
This is not actually a word, but it is a non-verbal
statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh"
means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she
is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you
over "Nothing".

"That's OK."
This is one of the most dangerous statements that a
woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she
wants to think long and hard before deciding how and
when you will pay for your mistake.

"Thanks."
A woman is thanking you. Do not question it or faint.
Just say you're welcome.

"Whatever!"
It's a woman's way of saying your in big trouble!

"What did you say?"
No, she's not hard of hearing. She's just giving you a
chance to recant the stupid thing that just came out
of your mouth and to either escalate the conflict by
saying it louder (remember, you'll lose) or to come up
with a clever substitute that sounds pretty close to
it (like instead of saying, "That's why I hate you,"
you would say, "That's why I dated you"). WARNING: If
you try to use "Nothing" as a response, she won't
accept it.

So, I've got 10 days left of the single life. The fun part about it is that I am now in the mists of cleaning out the apartment and rearranging to transform the place from my apartment to our new home. The best part about this process is that I am coming across things that have been boxed up for a long time.

Last night I found my tax information from the 2005 year. I have been looking for this for over a week now and it was in a folder that I had checked at least two other times. I am very happy because I can now finish my filing for 2006 and get my return on its way. :) I also came across the warranty on my 32" TV, which is nice since I am getting ready to sell it and wanted to have the warranty available for the buyer. (I also found some pretty funny photos from high school and college.)

Yesterday, my fiancé gave me my wedding present. We exchanged our presents early because as the day approaches, time seems to fly by at a quicker pace. She got me a perfect present. As some of you may know from reading this blog, I am a bit of a sports fan. I like to think that I don't over do it, but I do enjoy sports. I love baseball. Knowing this and understanding even if she does not understand, she got me a framed and matted Don Mattingly authenticated baseball jersey. It is a thing of beauty! Most of all it is wonderful because of the thought that went in to the gift.

Sometimes you don't notice things because you are not in the right spot at the right time. Other times, it is because you are just not in the right frame of mind. Last night, as I was getting ready to stubble to bed, I was finishing my laundry and noticed that my washing machine sounds exactly like the TARDIS from Dr. Who when it is on its final spin cycle.

Perhaps it was because I was tired or perhaps it was because I was just in the right position to hear it. Nevertheless, it had that distinctive sound of the TARDIS as it prepares for flight. Now if I can only locate a Time Lord.

The food they serve is a high end affair with many more options than your standard staples of Mexican restaurants.

Last night I had the steak with a raspberry puree sauce and 8 gulf coast shrimp covered in a guacamole spice sauce with cooked vegetables. She got the salmon with crab meat and grilled vegetables. It seems like it got a little chilly last night. My apartment managed to drop down to 47 degrees. It is a bit harder to get out of bed and get ready when it is on the colder side, but the electric bill, or lack there of, is a site to behold. I'm predicting a bill under 13 dollars for the actual charge this month. It is a good thing since I have other things to save for right now.

Friday in the News: In 2005, Playgirl magazine conducted a survey among 2,000 of its readers and came to the conclusion that women actually like their men scruffy, a wee bit chubby, and definitely not metrosexual. According to the survey, 42% said they thought love handles were kind of sexy and 47% approved of chest hair. Only 4% of women said that the size of a man's wallet mattered, and 73% wanted a guy who is "rough around the edges." (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

Friday In the News: In 2003, Pope John Paul beatified Marco d'Aviano, an Italian friar, more than 300 years after his death. Among the saintly deeds he is credited with is the invention of the cappuccino. With the vast Ottoman Turk army advancing on Vienna in 1683, Marco d'Aviano was sent to the pope to join the outnumbered Christian troops and inspire them to victory. It worked, and when the Turks retreated, they left behind bags of bitter coffee. D'Aviano sweetened the brew with honey and milk, and a saint was born. (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

I'm actually glad that places close and I think that I'm just nostalgic enough to believe that the days when things closed at 5 and were shut down on Sundays were the good old days. However, I also am spoiled with the fact that so many things are open so late.

The Groundhog's Day party provided a wonderful time this weekend and had, I believe, the best cake out of the 11 years. If I can get a photo of it, I will post it for some of you who are wondering what a groundhog cake looks like. Kudos to Jeff and the Austin crew for continuing the tradition. It was great seeing some old friends and we got to have an excellent breakfast at Threadgills in the morning. :)-Thanks Dani.

On the way home, as is becoming our tradition, Erica and I stopped at an Outlet Mall in Round Rock where we had a most successful shopping experience as the bridesmaids now all have shoes to match their dresses (one more piece finished). Also, I was able to find a pair of Eddie Bauer jeans that fit (33x34 vs the 35x34 that I currently wear) and bought them for $10.26.

As we walked in to Journey's, I was reminiscing about how I used to love Airwalk tennis shoes to which Erica responded that she did not believe they were made anymore. For the record, they are still produced. Nevertheless, there are lots of things that I used to be able to walk into stores and get that can't be found anymore. I used to love skate brands like 26 Red and Stussey. I guess that is part of the fun of growing up...looking back and laughing. But, I was very happy to find out that Airwalk is still in business. Yes, they are that comfortable...and yes, I did own a pair of blue suede shoes from them when I was in high school. Hooray for mid-90's fashion!

Yesterday, Phil came out and didn't see his shadow so we should be in for an early spring. I'll believe that when I see it. Nevertheless, this odd annual tradition of turning to an over-sized rat to tell us what the seasons will do has provided us with one of the great comedies of all time which was appropriately named Groundhog's Day. This Bill Murray classic has for the last 10 years provided my friends and me a reason to gather and enjoy each others company in college and beyond.

This year, the event has moved to Austin which is the one of the founder's, and former proud employee of Sugarless deLite, new abode. So, tonight I shall trek down to Austin with the future Mrs. to take part in the 11th Annual Groundhog's Day Party. Q. How many halves are in a game of basketball?

I threw in the towel yesterday. I went to the doctor for the first time in just under three years to take care of the nagging sinus condition that I have been dealing with for the past four days. Considering that this was my first visit to the doctor that was not because of a car wreck (not my fault) or a physical, I have to say that I am pretty proud of that streak. If the medicine works, it will have all been worthwhile.

In continuation of this theme, today's poll asks How Many Doctor Visits (do you have) Each Year? Last week's results were shocking as every vote went toward the Sun being a mortal enemy.
