Today is the big day. The State Fair of Texas opens its gates to the public today with Big Tex welcoming one and all. The fair runs from September 26th to October 19th. As always, there is a host of events going on during the Fair's run from concerts to auto shows.
Of course, there is also just about every fried creation under the sun available at the fair. I don't think that anyone goes there and expects it to have a positive impact on their diet. As the baker here at work says, "The food at the fair makes Jack in the Box look like a health food store." Nevertheless, they do have some tasty creations on the midway.
The biggest part of the Fair's run for me is the Texas-OU game that is held each year. The Red River Shoot Out will be played at the Cotton Bowl on October 11th. Assuming that both of the teams avoid the same fate that USC suffered last night over the next two games, we could be in for a match-up of two top five undefeated teams going at it. I'd love to see that with Texas coming out undefeated after the game.
Regardless, the fall of the Trojans last night to the Oregon State Beavers means that the top ten will definitely see a lot of movement after this weekends action. There will be a new number one and movement along the other positions as well including the chance that one or two teams might drop form the top ten completely. It's going to be a great weekend for college football.
