I always dislike pledge drives on my favorite radio stations. My wife and I both contribute to Power FM, and I use my personal donation allowance to support KERA. Unlike TV pledge drives on PBS which bring special programs to the station, radio pledge drives just tend to interrupt the shows.
With KERA, I used to feel bad since I ignored the request and didn't donate. So, there was a little bit of guilt there. Now, I feel a little annoyed that other people aren't giving quickly enough to end the drive. It's a childish thought, but I really just want to be able to hear my morning show on the drive into work. Nevertheless, I must commend KERA on how they have reformatted their drives over the years.
The first major change was to reduce the number of drives from four to three during the year. The second one has been to have daily goal targets that, when met, end the drive for the day. The third one, in place for this year's fall drive, was to move the pledge drive forward so that it does not interfere with the election coverage. This was a great move.
