I'm too old for this...

Last night, I took a break from the project that I was working on at home to go watch my fraternity play broomball for rush. I went fully intending only to watch and talk to some of the guys. Of course some of the guys talked me into playing a round. I should have stuck to my guns. After going all out for the full round, I came to the conclusion that there are some things better left to the actives.

It's not like I'm old by most standards, but in the words of Dr. Jones, "It's not the years, it's the mileage." I do believe that will be the last time that I am goaded into playing that sport. The next time one of the members makes an old man comment, I'll just smile and nod knowing that the next day, my knee won't be killing me. The hardest part about growing up is admitting that you are a grown up.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Toffee Coffee, Toffee Nut, Peach and Very Berry.

Today we have a great special today on our Fiordifrutta. All jars are $1.00 off for all in-store purchases. (Limit 6) Also, it is your last chance to get a Chocolate Loaf for $14.99 (regularly $19.99).

The bagels have arrived! Sort of. We have all varieties of the bagels (Perfect 10, White, Onion, Cinnamon, Sweet Wheat and Blueberry) available in the freezer. The Cinnamon and P10 and English Muffins arrived today. However, the remainder will be in tomorrow because UPS is incompetent.

If last week's poll thought us anything, it is that over half of our voting readership does not like TV. The winner was TV? New season? Who cares? Thanks for your votes. This week’s poll is an easy one: Labor Day Weekend, I Am...

You Can Win For Losing

Ah trivia night, how I hate and love thee. I'm what you might call a competitive person. As such, I hate losing. But, with few exceptions, no matter how many times I lose, I will get back up and try again until I win. This is the draw of trivia night at the Flying Saucer...I want to win. Last night my friends and I, in a dramatically reduced number for our team, managed to turn in our worst showing yet.

Ironically, we won a 10 dollar gift certificate in the process for sticking it out. When I told the moderator that we had a horrible evening, he responded, "It wasn't horrible. It just really wasn't good." Thanks. I eventually want to win because of our knowledge and skill; however, I'll take the charity in the meantime. Now, if only they would include a science and history section to all of the pop culture...

I would just like to say that yesterday's weather was a thing of beauty. I cannot remember the last time that there was an August day that felt like it did. I think that all of the hot and nasty weather that we endure here should allow us to have a greater appreciation for the days that are so wonderful. I hope that you were able to enjoy it as well.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Toffee Nut, Peach and Very Berry. Today is $3.69 Shake Day (regularly $3.93-$4.62). If it has been a while since you've had a shake, come in today and remember how good they are.

We have just received our shipment from LaTortilla Factory, and in addition to getting re-stocked on the 100% Fat Free white flour tortillas, we have two new wraps in that are one point per wrap: Tomato Basil made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (8 Net Carbs) and Rosemary made with Extra Virgin Olive Oil (9 Net Carbs). I am looking forward to trying them later today as they both smell scrumptious.

We are once again having trouble with our ISP and the email list. We are working to solve this problem. I will get the September mailer out as soon as possible.

Wacky Photo Wednesday:

This photo is still one of my favorite baby photos that I've ever come across. The cinnamon roll is huge.

So once again we find ourselves at the half way point of the week. I hope that everyone has a great day. If you didn't vote in last week's Thursday poll, you still have one more day. If you get a chance, step outside for another nice weather day or get out this evening to walk in a cooler summer night.

Go Fish

Last night I had some friends over for dinner/Prison Break/anime. One of the things that I love to do is cook. We had parmesan crusted cod with zucchini and red pepper with a side of mashed cauliflower. It was the first time that I have tried the recipe and I thought it worked out fairly well. I'm glad that I made a few adjustments to it though as the original recipe seemed to lack some flare.

After everyone had left and the dishes were cleaned (cooking for five will cause them to pile up quickly), I sat down and watched the US Open match for the Andre Agassi farewell tour. After he wins or losses in this tournament, he is retiring from professional tennis. It will be interesting to see one of the most dynamic tennis personalities of my generation leave the game. His victory last night against Romania's Andrei Pavel was a classic duel that saw Agassi rally from being down 0-4 in the third set. The match ended 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 7-6 (6), 6-2. If you get a chance to see his next match, I would recommend it. It is rare that you get to watch a legend’s last stand.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Toffee Nut, Banana and Very Berry. Yogurt Cones are on special today for $1.85 (Regularly $2.72).

Not Much Here

This weekend, I moved two of my good friends, who are thankfully married, back into town. It was the first time in around eight years that I have had to move a piano. The good news is that the apartment was on the first floor. The best part about a move that is not your own is not having to set up. The furniture and boxes are easy, but finding room for everything is the hard part.

After mopping around all day on Sunday and watching the Cardinals grand slam walk off victory over the Cubs :), I finished a project that I had started last Wednesday. Since I have company coming over tonight, I thought it would be nice to not have 400 plus CD's lying around the apartment. Five hours later at 3 in the morning, I finished this project and have two wonderfully organized binders of CD's. Right, I might have gone a little OCD on the organization part. But, I did find three CD's that I had misplaced including one that was given to me, one that I had just bought a replacement copy for last week, and the Old 97's Satellite Rides.

Speaking of the Old 97's, the best part of the weekend was getting my tickets to their October 12th show. It's been a long time since I've seen these guys play. They are hands down one of the best live shows. This will be my seventh time to see them and I am very excited.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Toffee Nut, Banana and Very Berry.

You still have a few days to save on our rich chocolate cake loaves with the special of month $14.99 price (regularly $19.99). We have the September calendar available in the store and will have it posted on the blog on September 1st. If you are on the email list, don't forget to check you email boxes in the next few days.

The Owner's Corner Tip of the Week: For all of those trying to live a healthy lifestyle with good dietary choices, I suggest that you ask questions. Finding out more information will help you make proper choices. Many of our most successful customers are those who want to be helped.

At Sugarless deLite, we are always ready and willing to help with a variety of different programs ranging from Atkins, Weight Watchers®, South Beach and diabetic. Our staff has been trained to help you with your questions. We can best help when you ask us questions about your dietary needs.

Much like a new piece of complex electrical equipment works better with instructions, programs will work better with questions. These questions allow us to help serve you best. Please let us know so that we can help you with your goal.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the rain. We are long over due for a good downfall so I am thankful for the last two days. It looked like we may even get a little more rain during the week. I'll soak it in while it lasts. Enjoy the start to your week.

Why I Hold On

It's been a little while since I last posted about yoga class. Yes, I am still participating in class and next month will be the sixth month. This evening I came to a realization about a previous question that I had posted here back in April when I started about why people would ever want to exercise. I struggled greatly in class last evening because my body has been sore from lack of sleep, moves, bad seating at my computer desk and the like. Almost every pose was painful.

In the mist of the pain, I had a moment of clarity that allowed me to see that the joy of yoga or exercise is not on the days when we find it easy; rather, the days when it is the hardest and we continue on through the pain to find ourselves with renewed energy at the end. In the middle of a pose that is stretching every part of your body, it is hard to see the end, but when the instructor calls "Relieve," the tension and pain gives way to a relaxation and rejuvenation.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Maple Nut, Banana and Boysenberry.

This weekend we have our Pecan Pies on special for $14.99 (regularly $19.99). This is also the last few days of our monthly special: Chocolate Loaves are $14.99 (regularly $19.99).

Saturday Distraction: What Is Your German Name?

Your German Name is:

Ludwig Lars
Well, I do like pretzels.

Let us know what your German name is by leaving us a comment. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys their time off from work and school.

Optional Brain Teaser: (I came across this one yesterday from a site some of you may know.) Two cars placed back to back each drive forward and travel 8 miles. They then both turn left and travel another 6 miles each. How far apart are they when they come to a stop?

a. Right next to each other.
b. 32 km
c. 48 km
d. 14 miles
e. What?

Hint: Geometry Rocks! Please don't post the answer.

This Thing Still Works?

I was transporting some work from home to the store today on an old 3 ½ inch floppy when I realized that this was not only old technology, but an old floppy disc. The disc is entitled Warlords II. It originally carried a game by that name and was given to me by my best friend from Jr. High. That makes this particular floppy disc thirteen years old.

I guess I should upgrade and move to flash drives, but my only working computer at home is so old that it doesn’t support this technology. Of course it does have a word processor and it does run Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri game so it really accomplishes almost everything I could ask for out of a computer. One day…

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake (going fast-changing this afternoon), Maple Nut, Banana and Boysenberry.

Some times I get distracted when writing the blog and I forget to mention everything. Yesterday, our Peerless candy shipment included four new varieties: Honeydew, Peach, Pina Colada and Strawberry. These are all very good flavors, especially the Honeydew. ;)

This weekend we have our Pecan Pies on special for $14.99 (regularly $19.99). You can order one for tomorrow or come in today and pick one up. This is also the last few days of our monthly special: Chocolate Loaves are $14.99 (regularly $19.99).

Fun Fact Friday: Avant garde recording artist Moby is related to Herman Melville, hence his moniker. Moby’s real name is Richard Melville Hall, and he’s distantly related to the author of one of America’s greatest novels, Moby Dick.

Happy Birthday Wishes to Tim Burton: Mr. Burton’s quirky film direction has lead to some classic creations such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Batman and Edward Scissorhands. Interestingly, he got his start in the business by winning a Disney scholarship. Want a free mini (4 oz) yogurt? (Limit one per person.) Give us the name of the Disney film that Mr. Burton worked on much to his displeasure. (A not so helpful hint: It is one of my all time favorites.)

I hope that everyone has a wonderful start to their weekend. If you haven’t voted in the poll from yesterday, it is not too late to do so.

A Little Birdie

I'm not a bird person. I'm not really much of an animal person as far as pets go. I tend to enjoy other peoples pets. I appreciate animals in their natural environment for their beauty and the roll that they each have in the environment. Nevertheless, when there is a bird that starts chirping right outside my window around 12 o'clock every night and continues to do so until four in the morning, I cry fowl at nature. It is just another reason to look forward to the autumn season.

Speaking of seasons, what was with that liquid stuff that came out of the sky last night? I must have gotten about 20 to 30 minutes worth of good rain last night. The sky opened up and it was nice. I was thankful to have the covered parking as the rain began right when I got home. Maybe, we will get a little more of the same today.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Maple Nut, Banana and Boysenberry. Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

The bagels have arrived! We have all varieties of the bagels (Perfect 10, White, Onion, Cinnamon, Sweet Wheat and Blueberry), the pita and the English Muffins. Come in early to make sure you get the best selection.

We are now also re-stocked on all varieties of the GNU Flavor & Fiber Bars, The Peerless Candies (Cinnamon, Assorted-Orange, Cherry, Lemon and Lime, Watermelon and Fruit Punch Buttons) and the Pecan Brittle.

It seems that pop songs are primarily dreck, but every once in a while OK according to our voting audience. With new shows on the horizon, this week’s poll asks: How Excited Are You About The New TV Season?

Mars Investigations

For the second week in a row, my friends and I went to the Flying Saucer in Addison to participate in their Tuesday night trivia. This week was not nearly as kind as last week was. We did not even manage to get a tie for any of the rounds. Worst of all, I know that we missed at least 5 questions because we changed our answers. Oh well, there is always next week. Any takers?

The coolest part about the evening was yet again seeing a friend that I have not seen for at least 6 years. Chance meetings rock! The coolest thing about randomly meeting someone you know is when she or he also recalls your name. It's not as awkward and it is always nice to know that you are remembered. It's also nice when they smile. 

Veronica Mars Season 2 came out on DVD yesterday. It was a week earlier than I originally thought, but that didn't stop me from running out to get it. If you haven't seen this show, it is the best one on TV. Yes, it is better than Prison Break and Desperate Housewives. Season three of Veronica Mars premiers on the new CW October 3rd at 8 PM central time. This gives plenty of time to anyone who would like to catch up on this wonderful show. Personally, I'll wait a few more weeks until I go through season two so that I can finish up some of my other projects, but if any of my friends would like to be involved in the viewing, you know where to find me.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Maple Nut, Marshmallow and Boysenberry. Today is $3.69 Shake Day (Regularly $3.93-$4.62). Suggestion: Try a Marshmallow and German Chocolate Cake Shake or a Marshmallow and Pumpkin Spice. MMMMMMM.

The last few days of sweltering in the 100 plus degree heat must have me delirious because I have been thinking non-stop about the autumn season. If you too can put yourself in the mindset of fall for a moment, I have some good news for a few of you out there. We will have a sugar free hot chocolate available by September that has 4 net carbs and only 50 calories. If you're sensitive to Maltitol, this one will work for you as well. The sweetener is Erythritol. Of course, I will blog the arrival of this item as soon as we receive our first full shipment.

We have added a new link to the Enlightening Locations list: FitDay. This site give you lots of information and pie carts to break down not only what you're eating, but also what you are burning.

Wacky Photo Wednesday:

Why can't we all just get along?

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable Wednesday. Don't worry; your week is almost half way over. You can make it through, just have faith.

Boston Massacre Part Two

You may have gathered in your reading of this blog that I am a little bit of a sports fan and a whole lot of a baseball fan. Given the length of the season, I have tried to spare our non-sports fans the agony of a daily or weekly update of what is happening in Major League Baseball. Nevertheless, as an unabashed New York Yankees fan I would be remise if I did not point out the great five game sweep that took place in Boston this weekend. I know of only myself and one other person that was happy with this weekend, but we were very happy. :) Of course, I have the utmost respect for the Boston Red Sox so I don't think this season is over; however, it was a fantastic weekend for baseball...assuming you're a Yankees fan.

The Prison Break season premier was excellent. It seemed to pass by in 30 minutes instead of the hour long show that it is. I am looking forward to another superb season. I am glad that I was able to watch all of the previous season, but it is not necessary. If you’re looking for a show that is smart, fast-paced and has heart, this is the one for you.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Maple Nut, Marshmallow and Boysenberry. Yogurt Cones are on special today for $1.85 (Regularly $2.72).

Over Dressed x 2

This weekend I went back to my old church. One of the growing trends in society today is the move towards casual dress. This permeates the dinning crowd, sporting events, movie theaters and churches. People simply no longer dress up to go out. I was raised a little on the traditional side and still like to dress for Sunday mornings. I had my suit laid out the evening before. Needless to say since I woke up late and went to the contemporary service, I was the only one in a suit.

This suit must be a curse because later in the evening, I went to my fraternity's first chapter meeting of the new school year. Traditionally speaking, this is formal meeting. Apparently, it wasn't this evening. But given my standard wardrobe, it was fun to step out and wear a suit. Besides, I think that I wear a suit quite well. It could be a case of better over dressed than under, but next time I think that I'll try and dress a little closer to the general populace.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, German Chocolate Cake, Maple Nut, Marshmallow and Boysenberry.

The Owner's Corner Tip of the Week: Stop trying to lose weight! While this might seem like an odd thing to suggest to our many health conscious customers, it is simple a matter of changing our approach and attitude. Instead of looking at it as losing (negative connotation) weight, we should approach it with the positive attitude of a healthy change in our lifestyle.

Diets tend not to work in the long run because we too often use them as a temporary means to obtain our goal. However, a positive lifestyle change will allow us not only to reach our goal but to continue on the path of healthy living. Changing the way that we eat, work out and spend our leisure time is essential to a positive change.

At the gym where I work out, there is a sign above the pool entrance that reads, "You need to first have the vision before you can achieve." While many people can create a vision, it takes commitment and hard work to obtain the results. Start this commitment with a positive frame of mind and commit to a healthier you.

Thanks to those of you who are active on the blog with your participation on the quizzes, polls, distractions and in the comments section. It's great to hear from everyone.

Two side notes: I’ve blogged before on one of my other blogs about how cool it is to get mail other than bills and magazines. I stand by that assessment. Some days, it makes you smile, especially when it is a perfect little post card.

Prison Break starts tonight at 7 PM on Fox. I am pumped. This season should be great, and it is being filmed here in North Texas. You might enjoy watching this and seeing some of the local areas. At least I know what I will do on Monday nights from 7 PM to 8 PM.

R&R

Friday night might equal high school football for most people in Texas this time of year, but my friends and I march to the beat of a slightly different drummer. For us, Friday is yoga time. The last few weeks, I've had a lot happening so my attendance has been one off and one on from week to week. I hope that this is a return to the weekly event. It's nice to be able to shut down for and hour and stretch out after a long week. Now, if we can just find a way to get the karate class to move away from the next room?

After going out every night for the last week, I called a break last evening for a little bit of baseball and laundry. Sometimes I forget how nice it is just to stay at home. The baseball game wasn't on ESPN :(, but I did come across a fun little movie called A Knight's Tale on TBS. I actually remember seeing this one in the theater. I like movies. I like bad movies. I really like bad movies that are so bad that they are good. I think that this might fall into this category. Who cares, it made me smile. Call me a softy.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Toffee Coffee, Marshmallow and Raspberry Cheesecake. Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, no XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Walk the Plank

Down at the old Tipperary Inn last night, we went to see a little band of musicians called The Bilge Pumps. 7 Guys dressed as pirates singing bawdy tunes of the high seas with gags and improv galore. It was a little bit raunchy and a whole lot of funny with a good measure of slap-stick. The small venue was almost perfect as it brought the audience right into the action although it was had to hear at times. If you like pirates or off beat humor, check them out the next time they are in town.

I never thought that I would say this, but thanks to Laura Miller for her Dallas smoking ban. After several nights out in Addison were the smoke was thick in the air, it was nice to be able to sit and enjoy the show without my eyes hurting or my throat feeling sore in the morning. Kudos.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Toffee Coffee, Orange Vanilla and Raspberry Cheesecake.

We have received our shipment of Bagels, Pita and English Muffins. We have all varieties on hand (Perfect 10, Blueberry, Cinnamon, Onion, Sweet Wheat and White). Better late than never, Right UPS?

We are also re-stocked on both varieties of Galaxy Granola (Not Sweet Vanilla and Cinnamon) and we have all varieties of the GNU bars back in stock.

Fun Fact Friday: In his seminal study on corporal punishment, Dr. Ralph Welsh found that 100 percent of violent inmates at San Quentin had suffered extreme physical punishment as children. In 1979, Dr. Welsh of Connecticut, a founding member of the National Center for the Study of Corporal Punishment, interviewed hundreds of psychologists, prisoners and citizens at large. Besides finding that all violent criminals at San Quentin had been physically abused, he discovered that 64% of juvenile delinquents had similar beatings, while 0% of college freshman he interviewed at UC Davis and Cal State University, Fresno, had suffered that kind of treatment.

Happy Birthday Wishes to Edward Norton. Mr. Norton in my opinion is one of the finest actors of his generation. With films such as Fight Club, Death to Smoochy, American History X, Primal Fear and Rounders to his credit, he is a true Hollywood star. He got his start in theater at Yale University where he obtained a B.A. in History. Want a free mini (4 oz) yogurt? (Limit one per person.) Give us the name of the band with which he toured as a temporary guitarist.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend. For all of our college readers out there, good luck with the start of your semester.

Too Much

I went back to the Flying Saucer last night for Elvis glass night. That's right, it was the anniversary of Elvis' death and the Saucer was kind enough to provide pint glasses that commemorated this grand occasion. At $8.50 a glass though, I'm starting to think that I shouldn't have gotten the matching set. But, the soft pretzels with cheese were an awesome late night snack. On tap for tonight, I believe there is some pirate-themed folk music to be had. Can't wait. Thank goodness for friends who drag you out night after night.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Almond, Orange Vanilla and Raspberry Cheesecake.

Today we have our Parfaits on special for $2.99 all day long (regularly $3.69). If you have never tried one of our chocolate, vanilla or cappuccino parfaits before, now is a great time. They are only 3 points for Weight Watchers®.

We have NOT received our shipment of Bagels, Pita and English Muffins. The UPS tracking information shows an exception in the shipment. The good news is that they are currently in the UPS Mesquite hub. The bad news is that they will not be in until tomorrow. I'm sorry for the delay.

The winner for last week's poll question was 100 dollars plus to see your favorite band in concert. I'm a little surprised, but I completely understand. We are going to stick with the music theme this week. I was called upon to console a fraternity brother this past weekend that is having a very difficult time with his break-up from a three year relationship. He said something that made me laugh, "I never understood why these stupid pop songs and singers were so popular until now." With that in mind, I ask our readers: Pop Songs and Singers Are...

One of our regular readers has suggested a new item for our blog. I am replacing the random link with a motivational message for Thursdays. I hope everyone enjoys the change.

Trivia Night

Last night my friends and I went to the Flying Saucer in Addison. On Tuesday nights, the Saucer hosts four rounds of trivia with ten questions in each round. Having had a prior engagement, I arrived in the middle of round 2 for which I was able to get a couple of questions for the team. One of the fun things about my group of friends is our diversity. This can make for a potent trivia team. We fell hard in round three like most of the teams there, but had a bit of a rebound for the movie trivia in round 4. :) This could be a fun weekly event.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Almond, Orange Vanilla and Raspberry Cheesecake. Today is $3.69 Shake Day. (Regularly $3.93-$4.62)

We did get a new variety of the GNU Flavor & Fiber bars called Chocolate Brownie. This bar is also 12 grams of fiber and only 2 points for Weight Watchers®. We also got two new types of syrup from Walden Farms: Strawberry and Blueberry.

Somedays

There are times that I sit here at the computer in the morning and just don't know what to write. I feel a general inability to find anything of interest. Some might simply call this writer's block, but I could probably a few paragraphs with relative ease. I just can't think of a topic for my general readership.

I will say that you can tell UT Dallas is getting ready to go back to school. Aside from the general rumblings of my staff, there are new customers that are coming in the store looking for low carb, Weight Watchers® or just general healthy eating. It happens every year and every once in a while we get a special customer that walks through our doors and stays with us for the years they are at school whether it be as a customer or employee. We have been very fortunate over the years here at Sugarless deLite in this regard.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Almond, Orange Vanilla and Banana Macadamia Nut. Today is $1.85 cone day (Regularly $2.72).

Quiz Day: Are You More Cat or Dog?

You Are: 50% Dog, 50% Cat

You are a nice blend of cat and dog.
You're playful but not too needy. And you're friendly but careful.
And while you have your moody moments, you're too happy to stay upset for long.

Don't forget to post your results. It will be interesting to see if the animal lovers out there match up with what type of animal you own.

Welcome Weekend

I'd like to thank all of my friends that came over to the new place this weekend. It's great to have a place to call your own and be able to entertain again. Great friends are never to be unappreciated. I hope that you all had some fun. Maybe next time I'll have some Chex Mix or some type of snack item. I'm still trying to figure out this living alone thing for the time being.

I did manage to finish Prison Break on Sunday. Three days 22 episodes. This show is awesome. I'm looking forward to season two which is only one week away. Additionally, Veronica Mars season two comes out at the end of the month so it seems that I will have another marathon of viewing enjoyment just around the corner.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Almond, Orange Vanilla and Banana Macadamia Nut.

The Owner's Corner Tip of the Week: We all have foods that give us trouble. In Weight Watchers® this week, our discussion was about "hot" or problem foods. The class discussed bread products and how they are often a problem for many of us. One of the products that I have found very helpful is the Western Bagels and Pitas.

These bread products are excellent one point options with high fiber and great taste. Many of our customers have told us how they have been helped by having a viable alternative for their bread cravings. The best testimony to this is how quickly they disappear from our store once they arrive on Thursday.

Not only are these bagels a fantastic option for breakfast or a snack, but you can also us them to make low point sandwiches to take with you for lunch. The Pita bread combined with a toaster oven and some American Spoon Apple Butter makes a perfect dessert. Moreover the English Muffins can quickly be turned into a personal pizza with a little bit of vegetables, no fat cheese and Turkey Pepperoni.

Why I Don't Like Doctors

I went to the dentist yesterday. After a year of my best friend telling me that I needed to, I got dental insurance, set up an appointment and went. The dentist is never a fun place to go unless you are one of those ridiculously lucky people with great teeth. Of course, I am not one of those people.

The work that was done wasn't that bad. The main problem was a result not of the several hours of work, but the one and a half hour wait that caused them not to finish. I have to go back now for another few hours in the chair and another blown day. I'm not looking forward to have to wait in that chair again.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Grasshopper, Butterscotch, New York Cheesecake and Banana Macadamia Nut.

Crème Pies are on sale this weekend for $14.99 (Regularly $19.99).

It's been kind of a crazy week, and I totaly forgot to mention that we got a new variety of the Flavor and Fiber Bar: Chocolate Brownie Bar. This bar is also 2 points and has 12 grams of fiber. It's already get great reviews.

Your Saturday Distraction: The running joke among many of my friends is that given my love of the night, I must be a vampire. As far as I know, this is not true, but were it so, I have found out what my name would be and so can you. What Is Your Vampire Name?

Your Vampire Name Is...

Augustus the Bloodthirsty

Man is that photo hideous or what. I was hoping more for a Brad Pitt kind of look. Let us know what your name would be by leaving us a comment.

New Wave

I've got a little bit more free time now that I have my apartment set up. Last evening I used that time to watch the first 8 episodes of Prison Break, which was one of the best shows on TV last year. I was not disappointed. This show is even better when taking from the beginning. I look forward to seeing the final 4 discs over the next week or so. It's nice to be able to sit down and relax and enjoy a show with good old 5.1 surround sound. :)

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Grasshopper, Butterscotch, New York Cheesecake and Banana Macadamia Nut.

Crème Pies are on sale this weekend for $14.99 (Regularly $19.99). You can order one for tomorrow by 8 PM this evening.

Friday Fun Fact: The first recorded Wave was on October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California, at the third game of the American League Championship Series between the Oakland A's and the New York Yankees. Professional cheerleader "Krazy" George Henderson takes credit for starting the Wave that day. In 2002, Tamas Viscek of Eotvos University, Hungary, analyzed videos of Mexican soccer stadiums and discovered that it only took a dozen or so fans to initiate a Wave. Once it started, it usually moves clockwise at 40 feet per second in a path 15 seats wide. These characteristics apply to almost any stadium in any culture and sport. [The brake at the Ballpark in Arlington makes it hard to have a sustainable Wave.] (This fact brought to you by Fact or Crap daily calendar.)

Happy Birthday Wishes to Steve Wozniak. If you’re not familiar with him that is understandable, but you do have him to thank in part for the ability to sit at home or work on your personal computer and read this blog. You see, Mr. Wozniak was the co-founder of Apple Computers in 1976. The "Wizard of Woz" also developed a little game called Breakout. Want a free mini (4 oz) yogurt? (Limit one per person.) Give us the anime series that has a character named Woz in honor of Mr. Wozniak.

Now Open!

It's been a long few weeks, but my apartment is officially opened for visitors and now feels like home to me. I would like to thank my guest last night for coming over and sharing a celebration dinner. We had a wonderful meal with Pepper Plant Chipotle seasoned, pecan crusted salmon. There is no one else that I would have wanted to share my first cooked meal at my new home.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Grasshopper, Butterscotch, New York Cheesecake and Banana Macadamia Nut. Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

We have received our shipment of Bagels, Pita and English Muffins. We have all varieties on hand (Perfect 10, Blueberry, Cinnamon, Onion, Sweet Wheat and White). Once again we had a very busy week last week with our breads. We ordered more, but if you want the best selection, I would try to come in today, tomorrow or Saturday.

It seems that we have a good many fearless romantics among our readers. Those believing in true love top those that don't 6 to 1. I'm glad to see that the belief in love is still strong. As I'm sitting here listening to Street Spirit (Fade Out) by Radiohead, this week's poll has come to mind: The Most I Would Pay to See My Favorite Band? (The second option should read I love this band!)

I often times find Wikipedia a wonderful resource. Today’s random link goes out to those fearless romantics who believe in as Huey Lewis puts it, the power of love. In particular, I really enjoy the Chinese character and its meaning. I have posted that below.

That which gives breath (ie. “spirit”) to the heart, with a graceful motion.

May we all find a blessing such as this in our lives. I wish you peace and happiness and love.

Haircut & a Shave

OK, this time I got the haircut but not the shave. I've got a special dinner that I am hosting this evening and I wanted that clean look. There is a good possibility that there will be a shave in my near term future. The apartment is ready and as set up as need be. I still have some boxes to go through, but everything else is in it right place.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Grasshopper, Caramel, Strawberry Shortcake and New York Cheesecake. Today is $3.69 shake day.

I forgot to mention yesterday that we got in a new variety of the La Tortilla: 100% Fat Free. This is a one point traditional soft tortilla.

Wacky Photo Wednesday:

Aren’t these things self cleaning?

Bad Hair Day.

Thanks for those who participated in the quiz yesterday and left a comment.

Sleepless Night, Early Morning

Last evening has to go down as my worst sleep ever. I didn't get to sleep until 4 AM and I woke up at 6:45 AM. Go figure. If I seem a little slow today, I apologize. Perhaps tonight exhaustion will play its roll in getting me a good night’s sleep.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Caramel, Strawberry Shortcake and New York Cheesecake (after 1 PM). Today is $1.85 Yogurt Cone Day. (Regularly $2.72)

We have received a re-stock on the small size La Tortilla Green Onion, Wheat and Garlic varieties. Remember, 2 equal one point for Weight Watchers and they are all 3 net carbs.

It was pointed out to me by one of our avid readers that last week's quiz was a repeat of one that I offered in May. I have now compiled a list of all of the quizzes and distraction to try and avoid this again. The interesting thing is that I got a different result. Not too surprising given all that has gone on lately. So here is your no repeat Daily Quiz: How Is Your Self Esteem?

You Have Low Self Esteem 24% of the Time

Generally, you feel pretty darn great about who you are, even when you mess up or fail.
Occasionally, a huge setback will make you question yourself, but you pick yourself up quickly.

C Talladega Nights?

So, I did get to go see the new Will Ferrell comedy this weekend in between unpacking the kitchen at my apartment. I may have been the only one at the theater that was a little bit disappointed, but I did not feel that this was his best work by any measure. The comedy seemed forced at times and some of the situational humor was just uncomfortable. I'm not above low brow humor. In fact, some of my favorite comedies are Animal House, Van Wilder, Old School and those classics from the 80's; however, Talladega Nights just seemed to rely on the crass a little too much.

I didn't leave the theater feeling that I had been ripped off, but I didn't leave thinking to myself that I could not wait to see it again or by it on DVD, which I will not do. Mixed in with some great laughs was a movie that was overly long and overly strained under the weight of its own perpetual stereotypes. It got some good laughs out of me, but it won't get more money. Film Rating: C

On the other hand, what do I know? Talladega Nights pulled in over 47 million this weekend at got a strong 75% Fresh Rating from Rotten Tomatoes. (Side Note: For any of you out there with pirate mania, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has now grossed $379.7 million dollars domestically and 392 million over seas. Although it might need a little help to make it there, it is possible that the film may make it to the 1 billion dollar mark.)

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Caramel, Strawberry Shortcake and Angel Food Cake.

The Owner's Corner Tip of the Week: My Weight Watchers® Leader made the comment a few weeks ago that no one has ever blown their program by tasting one bite of cake or sweets. The problem occurs when we feel that we must eat the first and last bite of the cake. If you want a sample, don't feel bad about trying a bit. Just remember to limit yourself to that one taste. The first bite is often the best bite.

Only the Kitchen

Outside of a few odds and ends, the only thing that remains is unpacking the kitchen. I will finally have the entire apartment set up by Sunday evening. It is going to be great getting to go home and cook and sit down and relax without having to get up in a few minutes time to continue unpacking. I think that next weekend will be nice.

There is a possibility that I may go see Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby with some of my friends this evening. If I do, you can expect another movie review on Monday. I think that this will be the number one movie this weekend with 35 million plus in the three day stretch.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Caramel, Strawberry Shortcake and Angel Food Cake. Tonight is buy one, get one free (limit one, excludes XL) from 6 PM to 8 PM.

Your Saturday Distraction: Russian Name Generator.

Sugarless deLite's Russian Name Is...

Sashenka Faddei Kuznetsov

OK, I'm not even sure that this is a real Russian name. Let us know what you get by leaving us a comment. I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Snail Mail

We've got an incoming email that is taking forever. There is something very wrong with not having access to DSL on one of the busiest corners in the Dallas area. Hint, hint AT&T. It's frustrating not even to have the option of purchasing this service. So we sit here and suffer away with slow downloads and emails that take 30 plus minutes to come through the mail box. One day just maybe we will get something that is a little faster.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Coffee Royal, Strawberry Shortcake and Angel Food Cake.

Today we have all of the items on the sell rack 50% off their lowest marked price. Find some great deals in-store today.

Fun Fact Friday: The first U.S. patent, awarded in 1790, required the signatures of the secretary of state, the secretary of war, the attorney general, and the president himself to be approved. In 1770, there was no patent office. Samuel Hopkins's patent application for an improvement in the making of potash used in soap manufacturing landed before the Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, an inventor himself, who reviewed it and obtained the others' signatures. By 1773, Jefferson and his cabinet were so overwhelmed with patent applications that the duty was handed off to a state department clerk. In 1802, the U.S. Patent Office was finally established. [It is still overwhelmed to this day.] (This fact brought to you by Fact or Crap calendar.)

Happy Birtday Wishes to William Roger Clemens. Clemens is one of the premier pitcher to ever play the game of baseball. He currently is playing for the Houston Astros, and would have a wonderful record if he could ever get any run support. Want a free mini (4 oz) yogurt? (Limit one per person.) Give us Roger Clemens nickname that he acquired while playing in Boston.

Finished...Sort of.

The world's (at least my personal) longest move is complete. This move was long for many reasons and the 6 day time frame didn't help. All that remains now is to get everything put away, the washer and dryer hooked up, the boxes sorted and a few little fixes put in place. I should be truly finished by the start of next week. It is great to have all of my stuff in one place again.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, Coffee Royal, Pumpkin and Egg Nog.

Today we have a great in-store special. All day we will have the Eat Well Be Well product line available for one dollar off. The only thing that you have to do is ask for the special upon check out. This product line has breakfast bars, cereals and instant oatmeal that are all reduced carbohydrate offering and made with no sugar alcohols.

We have received our shipment of Bagels, Pita and English Muffins. We have all varieties on hand (Perfect 10, Blueberry, Cinnamon, Onion, Sweet Wheat and White). Once again we had a very busy week last week with our breads. If you want the best selection, I would try to come in today, tomorrow or Saturday.

We got interesting results from last week's poll. Fall came in as the number one preferred season. Spring surprisingly got no votes. I guess there are a lot of allergy suffers out there. This ones an off shoot of a MySpace questionnaire that was going around: Do You Believe In True Love?

Today's random link: Fun with the Fresh Maker. I'm sure that some of you have heard about this, but I know others may not have. You can make a fountain with Mentos and a 2 liter bottle of cola. This is a fun and relatively safe experiment that you can do with your friends or kids at home. Hope you enjoy.

Baby Pics

First, let me apologize for forgetting the link to yesterdays quiz. I put it on the Tuesday entry or you can click here for the quiz. Sometimes there is so much going on here at the store that I miss the little details. Today is the last day of my move. :) The pod was delivered this morning and awaits my arrival this evening to unload it. Then the fun part of putting the apartment together begins.

You may see a few new faces at Sugarless deLite in the next month or so as we add a few more to the crew for the busy holiday season. Tim the younger has left us to spend more time on school and we are adding another Steven to the crew tomorrow. Be nice to them. There are a lot of things to learn about when you start here as I'm sure any former employee can attest.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, Coffee Royal, Pumpkin and Egg Nog. Today is $3.69 Shake Day! (Regularly $3.93-$4.69) Come in and enjoy one while you beat the heat in our AC.

We have received a re-stock shipment for the following items: Boston Fruit Slices, La Tiara White Corn Taco Shells and all four varieties of brittle (Cashew, Peanut, Pecan and Sunflower Seed).

Don't forget that the Deal of the Month is our Chocolate Cake Loaves that are on sale all month long for $14.99 (Regularly $19.99).

Wacky Photo Wednesday:

Do we have children only to dress them up and take silly photos or is that just an added perk?

Time for some paper work.

Side note: If you work at this store, you'd better have a stain stick in your laundry room. It appears that I will have to make yet another trip to the store to get one as a little bit of pumpkin flavor landed on my shirt this morning. Seeing how the shirt was a gift, I'd like to keep it clean.

Move Like the Tortoise

This is the slowest move that I have ever been through, but at least my apartment is starting to take shape. Last night I was able to unpack a few boxes and do a preliminary set up on my bedroom. My large cargo unit will be delivered tomorrow and I will have everything in by tomorrow evening. I can't wait to get this thing finished so that I can sit down, relax and do nothing for just one evening.

Thankfully, I have been motivated enough to make some upgrades to the apartment with the electronic thermostat, the new low flow shower head and the low energy light bulbs. I think that I am in good position for my electric bill. At twelve cents a kWh, I had better be.

The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, Coffee Royal, White Chocolate Raspberry and Lemon.

We've got some crème pies available today for $12.99-walk in only. I think that they will go quickly.

Quiz Day: What Temperament Are You?

You Have a Melancholic Temperament

Introspective and reflective, you think about everything and anything.
You are a soft-hearted daydreamer. You long for your ideal life.
You love silence and solitude. Everyday life is usually too chaotic for you.

Given enough time alone, it's easy for you to find inner peace.
You tend to be spiritual, having found your own meaning of life.
Wise and patient, you can help people through difficult times.

At your worst, you brood and sulk. Your negative thoughts can trap you.
You are reserved and withdrawn. This makes it hard to connect to others.
You tend to over think small things, making decisions difficult.

I'm not sure if all of that is true, but I do love the Smashing Pumpkins album Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness. Great double disk album! Let us know what your temperament is by leaving us a comment.
