A measure of history was made yesterday at the Democratic National Convention. Barack Obama became the first African-American to become the nominee of either major political party. In a day that was filled with choreography that would make the finest of dance instructors proud, the nomination went quickly and smoothly when Senator Clinton called for everyone to unite behind Senator Obama for the nomination.
I have to say that I was mildly upset. I was hoping for a slightly better show of fireworks, but the party faithful seem to be falling in line. While their might be a good show on the Republican side, I doubt it. They seem to be pretty good about putting on a straight line show.
The convention will close this evening with Barack Obama's acceptance speech which will be given outdoors. (It happens to fall on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech.) I tend to only catch bits and pieces of each convention, but I do always like to catch both the Republican and Democratic nominee's acceptance speeches. That's what I get for being a political junkie.
