There are only 20 more shopping days left until Christmas. I'm happy to say that my wife and I are almost done. We'll finish up by this weekend. We've just got to make a trip to Costco to get her grandfather's gift and a quick trip to the mall to get some gift cards for a basket. Soon we'll just have to sit back and wait to give.
In the meantime, we'll just have to make due by doing some charitable donations. First on the list is the Network. This is Richardson based program that focuses on providing temporary assistance to families in crisis. The next one will involve a shopping trip this weekend to a shoe store for the Soles4Souls charity. Of course, there is also the continual dollar drops at the Salvation Army red kettles as well.
One of the things that I started doing a few years ago was keeping dollars on hand when I went on shopping trips for Christmas. Each time I go into a store with a Salvation Army bell ringer, I put a dollar into the kettle. My wife also does the same thing. Over the course of the holiday it does add up, but it more importantly adds up for the Salvation Army and the work that they do.
This year, we've started a virtual kettle on the blog. It has a goal of $125. To get things started, Erica and I have donated the first 25 dollars. This means that we just need to average 5 dollars a day for the next 20 to get to the final 100 before Christmas. So, if you have 5 dollars or any other amount that you would like to donate, you should see the kettle link to the right of this blog entry. Just click on the kettle and follow the directions. (It is a tax deductible donation.)
