The oncoming fall season always means that there are more than enough sports to keep me busy. It is the best time for baseball, and college football provides weekly entertainment and suspense. Added to the mix this year is the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. The first match has already been played in the host country of China. Germany made a strong statement that it intended to defend its 2003 victory. By strong statement, I mean that they dominated Argentina 11-0. Impressive, most impressive.

In addition to all of the football this weekend, both of the American and world variety, my wife and I added a baseball game with our Sunday school class on Saturday. The Rangers have been playing very well as of late. It is too bad that they are playing to get to .500 rather than playing for a shot at the division or the wild card. I will admit that I was guilty of watching the Texas game during part of the baseball game. Go Longhorns! However, the best thing about the game was that they had a fireworks show afterwards. Not that we stuck around for the show, we instead had no problem with traffic as we left the stadium in the 9th. I love not having to deal with traffic.

We also had a chili cook-off up at Parkway Hills on Sunday as part of a community outreach. Although they had said that they were going to be judging the chili put forth by each Sunday school class, we never did hear a result for the winner. I guess that I will have to except the empty crock-pot as evidence that our chili was good. It was the first time that I have made chili, so I am glad to see that it was well received.
