Friday in the News: In March 2005, researchers Thomas Fuchs and Ludger Woessman of Munich University concluded that computers make children dumber. They studied more than 100,000 15-year-olds across more than 30 countries and concluded, "Holding other family characteristics constant, students performed significantly worse if they have computers at home." In fact, they have "problem solving deficit disorder." The cure? Books and creativity. (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)

The birthdays are taking a break for the rest of the month. They will be replaced with coverage for the weekend action at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The US team collected three points this morning for their 2-0 win over the tough Swedish team. The US and and North Korean victory today put both of these teams in the control of Group B. Meanwhile, Group A tightened a bit today with Germany being forced to a draw against England and Japan pulling out a victory at the last minute against Argentina.

This weekend will see Group C and Group D swing into action. You can see the full schedule here. I'll have a rundown of the weekend's action on Monday.
