It's Groundhog's Day! Today, the Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. I'm sure my wife is sorry to hear the news, but I don't mind a little bit of overtime for the winter season. One of the great things about the yearly appearance of the small varmint is the annual Vortex Groundhog's Day Festival. This grand tradition was started at UT Dallas 12 years ago by an ingenious soul named Jeff McLaughlin. Some of our longer term customers might remember Jeff who is also a proud alumnus of Sugarless deLite.
Since he moved to Austin, we have been taking a Dallas contention down each of the past few years to celebrate this great holiday. So, I'll leave early today to head down to Austin. One day, we might petition Congress to make it an official national holiday. For the meantime, we'll be content to watch the movie, relax and enjoy good friendship, and eat the coolest cakes ever made. (I hope to have photos of the cake to post next week.)
There is no way this winter is ever going to end as long as that groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don't see any way out of it. He's got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.
