You can tell that summer is quickly approaching because of the number of people that are getting their summer vacations planned out. Some of the customers that I have spoken with have already been on a trip or are leaving in the next week or two to start their holidays. One of my friends, who happens to be proud alumna of Sugarless deLite, had her birthday party. The event was a surprise midnight skate party with a 70's/80's theme. I remember that all of us seemed to have a wonderful time. I was, however, happy to read in the emails yesterday that I was not the only one who was still suffering from the event. It seems that the scraps and bruises that you collect as a youth out on the rink are a little different when you collect them in your late 20's and early 30's. There was no update yesterday on the blog because, while the store was open from 12 PM to 6 PM, I was at home sleeping in and enjoying a little time off. The traditional weekend is a rare beast for a Sugarless deLite employee so I certainly jumped at the opportunity to take the back to back days off. And what does one do on a rainy Memorial Day off? My wife and I opted to curl up on the couch after breakfast at noon and settle in for a 12 show marathon of Veronica Mars. Now, we only have six episodes left in season 2. Of course, the day of rest was well deserved after trudging through the mud all day Sunday at Scarborough. It actually turned out to be a decent day once we got down there, but the fair grounds were a mess and our shoes paid a heavy price. Still, the rain made the crowd a little lighter t

About the Drive and the Lines: The 20 minute drive took one hour because people have apparently forgotten or have never known how to drive in the rain. The parking was 10 dollars and the directions to the parking lot were horrible. The lines at the concert to have your ID checked were ridiculously set up. There were two of them. One line had three people checking and the other had one person. Needless to say, we got in the line that had one person and didn't notice the three people checking the other line until we were right at the end of our line. The Cowboys and the Dallas/Fort Worth area scored a major win yesterday in securing the 2011 Super Bowl for the new Cowboy's Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Of course, the Super Bowl is a huge deal economically for the area with one week revenue of 300 to 400 million, but it's also a big deal for national and worldwide exposure. It should be a pretty interesting event and it might just be the beginning of more high profile events at Jerry World. So now that the Cowboys have won the bid, there is only a couple of things that I know that I need to do to make this a successful Super Bowl for me. This morning I had the second of my tri-annual teeth cleanings. I have never hid my dislike of the doctor's office or dentist chair, but I have come to see them as a necessary evil. I got to go to my second FC Dallas game yesterday and watch the Hoops defeat Real Salt Lake 2-1. The match was well played with the exception of a card happy referee. While many Americans don't understand the world’s obsession with soccer, I think that most of them could appreciate the beauty of some of the goals. Thankfully, I was able to witness such a goal in the 82nd minute yesterday by a FC Dallas defender. So it seems that after a lazy night last night with a little grocery shopping and a movie, we're back into a busy weekend with a birthday party and a soccer game. We watched Big Fish yesterday. I had never seen this film even though I was always interested in viewing it. It was a very good film. I love Tim Burton's directing style and his vivid colors. Most of all, it was a love story wrapped in a fantasy and that made for good viewing. The first game was horrible as I tried to work off my eight years of rust. I avoided a skunk by virtue of my one point scored. The second game went a little better with some nice rallies amounting to a loss at 15-9. By the third game I had rediscovered my serve and was able to win 15-8. Though I was up in the final game 13-8, Rick managed to come back in a strong fashion and win out 15-13. If I can only get my backhand to return, I might provide a better match.
