Green Tip: The tragic number of animals euthanized each year--9.6 million, according to the American Humane Association--is reason enough to help control pet population growth. But there's more. Feral animals kill mammals and songbirds and have been known to infect wild populations--and they're often the offspring of family pets. (It's believed, for instance, that the feline distemper afflicting the endangered Florida panther was transmitted by house cats.) Controlling the population reduces these problems, so make sure you spay or neuter your pet. [This tip brought to you by Page-a-day calendars.]
If you're looking for a way to help out with the feral population in the Dallas area, there is a wonderful group called Feral Friends that helps to keep down the population here at home. They also aid people in recovery of lost cats.
Happy Birthday Wishes to Björk Guðmundsdóttir. Known to most simply as Björk, she is one of my all time favorite female singers. After graduating from music school in 1980, she bounced around with several bands until 1986 when she fell in with The Sugarcubes. After recording three albums and gaining moderate success, the Sugarcubes broke up in 1992. In 1993, Björk released her first solo album called Debut. Since her first solo release, she has added five additional albums and two soundtracks to her discography. She was also the star in the movie Dancer in the Dark.
