One of the things that I started doing a few months ago was reusing my water bottle at work for one to two weeks at a time. While I had previously been using the same bottle throughout the day, I extended that out to the course of one week at first and now two to three weeks. We do the same thing at home as well. Now, we're ready to take the next step.
This week, I found an interesting article about the ubiquitous water bottle. I think that most of us over the years have been trapped by the Madison Avenue way of life and that bottled water is one of these things. To be sure, it is convenient to be able to carry water with you on the go; however, there are, and have been for thousands of years, alternatives to the plastic bottles that we tote with us in the modern era. Additionally, some of the alternatives don't suffer from the chemical leakage that plastic bottles do. Regardless of whether you choose to switch to a new long term water bottle such as the Klean Kanteen or just choose to use less and recycle more, it's a good step to take to helping everyone live better.
Speaking of bettering the earth, the City of Dallas is sponsoring a recycling roundup this weekend at Fretz Recreation Center (6900 Beltline) and Kiest Park Recreation Center (3080 S. Hampton) on Saturday the 17th from 11:00AM-5:00PM. Well beyond the standard recycling drive, this one will also except electronics, books, clothes, shoes, plastics, tires and more. So, if you have an old TV, monitor, DVD player or a mound of clothing that you never wear any more, make a run down to one of these two locations this weekend and do some good.
