Even though there is not a merger everyday in the business page, there are still some big deals that go through. Today, the owner of Arby's, Triarc Companies, has announced that they are going to purchase Wendy's for an all stock deal. The Wendy's family does not seem to happy with the deal, but the business is going to be bought regardless.
I had watched a documentary the other day about corporations. The film, The Corporation, is a fantastic film if you are ever interested in learning a bit of history about our modern corporate structure. One of the points that they make in the film is that corporations spend a lot of time branding their name to make us, the consumers, feel like we are part of the family. Wendy's is a good example of a corporation that succeeded with me. I always felt like it was a bit more of a family owned place. Maybe that was because I grew up with Dave Thomas, the founder, telling me that Wendy's had the answer to "Where's the Beef?" I guess that's business.
