Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday is the name given to the day on which Jesus celebrated his Jewish Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper. Two important events are the focus of Maundy Thursday.
First, Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples and thereby instituted the Lord’s Supper, also called Communion (Luke 22:19-20). Some Christian churches observe a special Communion service on Maundy Thursday in memory of Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples. Second, Jesus washed the disciples’ feet as an act of humility and service, thereby setting an example that we should love and serve one another in humility

1865 Robert E Lee & 26,765 troops, surrender to US Grant at Appomattox
1866 Civil Rights Bill passes over Pres Andrew Johnson's veto
1968 Martin Luther King Jr, buried in Atlanta

April 9, 1968 was Martin L. King Jr's funeral. I remember that day. I was in 8th grade. It was a dark day amidst the calamity of the civil rights movement and Viet Nam War. One man killed only because he preached for non-violence and equality and across the ocean, American soldiers were dying for another cause that was never crystallized but was said to be for democracy. What irony our history has been built on.
