One of my favorite childhood memories was when my Dad took me to Sun Rexall Drugs to buy our annual kite. My first kite was a kelly green Hi-Flyer. It was a paper kite just like this one except green with white writing. It had " Playmate of the Clouds" across the top. We had to make a tail to keep in the air and it couldn't be too heavy or it would ruin the trajectory.

One year I talked Dad into a box kite. It never flew as well as the original one so we never bought another one.

Today in History
1668 1st horse race in America takes place
1913 Great Dayton Flood
1953 Salk Polio vaccine announced
1965 Martin Luther King Jr led 25,000 to state capitol in Montgomery, Al
1969 John & Yoko stage their 1st bed-in for peace (Amsterdam)

Once again we have John Lennon and Martin Luther King converging on the same day. All they were saying was "Give Peace A Chance".
Births
1839 William Bell Wait, US, educated the blind
1947 Elton John, [Reginald Kenneth Dwight], England, singer (Rocketman)
1966 Tom Glavine, Concord MA, pitcher (Atlanta Braves, Cy Young 1991)

William Bell took us a long way in educating the blind.

Clearly Sir Elton John is one of the best songwriters of our time. He is renowned not only as being knighted by Queen Elizabeth, but has made his mark in pop, rock, movie sountracks.

Happy Birthday to the Cy Young winner, Tom Glavine.
