After returning home soaked from the downpour last night, I finally got around to installing the new programmable electronic thermostat in the apartment. It might have been the cooler weather brought in by the hurricane, but it sure did seem cooler in the morning than it has in a while. With the new thermostat, the guess work has been taken out of the temperature. As a bonus, it is programmed to go up to 83 while we are both at work and back down to 79 when we get home. I now feel, for the most part, that our move is complete.
Friday in the News: In 2004, Queen became the first rock band to be given the official seal of approval in Iran. The flamboyant Freddie Mercury, who died of AIDS in 1991, was proud of his Iranian ancestry and supposed Zoroastrian origins, which made Queen very popular in Iran, but until recently not popular with authorities. A CD was released "without the love songs," and has been a huge hit. (This story brought to you by the WWDTM daily calendar.)
Happy Birthday Wishes to Robert Mario De Niro Jr. Mister De Niro is an A-List celebrity with some classic films to his credit: Bang the Drum Slowly, Taxi Driver, The Godfather II, Ragging Bull, The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, and Meet the Parents to name a few. He is currently in Stardust which opened a few weeks ago to positive reviews. Want a free small mini (4 oz) yogurt? We'll make you an offer that you can't refuse. Name the film performance from De Niro that is one of only four to win an Academy Award for working in a foreign language.
Honorable birthday mentions: Belinda Carlisle (one of my original crushes), Sean Penn, Donnie Wahlberg (NKOTB) and Jorge Posada. Also, the Compact Disc is 25 years old today.
