It was a bit of a shock to know that one of the great and challenging actors of Generation X was gone. I'm a little bit calloused to these news stories. While I feel it is a tragedy, it is something that I have become sadly accustomed to over the years. I think that, after I came home on April 5, 1994 only to find out that Kurt Cobain was dead, I've been slightly detached from celebrity deaths. The prize amount has now been reset to 10 dollars. I met a group of friends last evening for trivia at the Flying Saucer in Addison to try our hand at the pop culture laden trivia again. We failed. Horribly. I'm pretty sure that we never scored higher than 50% on any of the four rounds. The quiz master had also changed the format a little bit which did not play to our strengths at all. I'm still convinced that a number of people cheat during the trivia game by using their computers or phones to look up answers. It's unfortunate that people feel compelled to cheat. Nevertheless, I look at the examples that we have around us and it seems that cheating has become the norm. The ...

After spending the first hour of the morning on the phone with Cingular, I think that I may have resolved my phone issue. I have a new candy bar style phone on the way with no camera or music feature. This will be a nice change from the flip phone that I currently have. I understand that the flip phones are all the rage, but I am like an old man...I know what I like and I don't need to change it. I tried and it didn't work. Assuming that all of the information that I was told today was correct which is a dangerous thing, then I should not be charged anything other than shipping for this phone. It will be nice to have this all settled. I will give a very hesitant, but hopeful yay and a thank you to Mary Jean at Cingular. :/ Of course, that is how Mondays start sometimes, but if you persevere, it is almost always worthwhile. I ordered my new phone yesterday. I am looking forward to receiving it and activating it later in the week. I didn't want a new cell phone, but I had to get one. I am a casualty of the SBC purchase of AT&T. My cell phone service has over the last few months decentigrated. I average 4 to 5 dropped calls a day when I am driving around. AT&T use to have the best coverage of any of the providers in the Dallas area; however, Cingular has refused to maintain the old network. Last month, I was charged a $4.99 service fee for staying on the old network. Talk about an insult. I would have switched to Verizon, but almost all of the people that I use my minutes on are with Cingular. I hope my shiny new phone has better coverage than my venerable old phone.
