Erica and I joined the digital age two nights ago. We picked up our converter box at Target for 10.81 after the government coupon and tax was applied. After plugging it into the TV, we immediately noticed the slightly improved picture quality and several new channels. (Included a nice weather channel set from Channel 5.) Of course, we also lost several channels as well. The new converter box has a lot of nifty little features like program guides and digital sound. However, the squiggles and fuzz of the old analog set-up has been replaced with the garbled pixels of the digital age. I for one prefer slight fuzz to a constantly rearranging pixel set. I have a feeling that, when the masses get converted, there will be a lot of talk about this. I'm not sure that the digital age will be all that it is crack...

The Dark Night was well worth the two hour wait in line last night. This movie continues the darker tone that the new series has, but takes us ever so much farther than the original. While the hype on this movie has been great, it has also been deserving. I'm not sure if Heath Ledger will win the Oscar® that has everyone talking; however, the award would not be given without merit. His twisted take was fantastic and helped to propel the story line into a wonderful darkness that was a times almost uncomfortable to watch because of how well the psychosis of the Joker was presented. I went and saw the Spiderwick Chronicles yesterday with a couple of friends. I got what I was expecting. I'm a pretty easy reviewer of fantasy films. As long as they are not bad, they qualify as good for me. Since I'm going with a willing suspension of disbelief, I tend to give these films a little more slack. Nevertheless, I thought that they did a good job with this one. The visuals, as with most films with any type of decent budget, were great and the coloration helped to provide the contrast between the real and fairy realm and the good and evil sides thereof. The finally movie in the trilogy, although I'm sure that the suits are already trying to plan another one because of this film's success, finds Jason Bourne hunting his way back to the place that he began in an effort to find out who he is. The fast pace of the movie does not let up from start to finish as the viewer is pulled and dragged right along for the ride which is accentuated by the use of unsteady camera work. At the end of the roller coaster that takes you from Moscow to Europe to Africa and finally to New York, you simply exhale. The Bourne Ultimatum is a well done film.
