All cones are on sale today for only $2.08 (regularly $2.77). Come in and enjoy a tasty treat today. I'm down to my final five days at the store. I'm trying to make sure that I've got everything in order for Rick to take over the daily operations again. This work received a big boost on Saturday when I managed to locate my work folder from the old hard drive. This folder contains the vast majority of fliers, documents, pictures, excel documents, and other work that I have done over the last 5 1/2 years of managing the store. Therefore, the amount of redo work has been massively reduced. Now, I've just got a few changes to make to the stores website. We'll be in position to make quick changes to the store assuming the transition to the new front end works well. These things are always iffy. Keep your fingers crossed. Out...

(Regularly $4.62) January Calendar: (click to enlarge) There are no coupons for the month of January. It's a good thing that I do my research before I rush out and buy things. I've been looking for a good deal on a video card for the last two months. Yesterday, I found two pretty good options for what I need. I looked at the reviews on several different web sites and had a thought. "I should probably check to see if the card is compatible with the computer." It's a simple thought really. If I had not been in the process of researching, however, I probably would have skipped that thought all together. I just assumed that the computer would take...

Thanks to Doctor PC who fixed it at a very reasonable price. If you ever need a computer fixed, I'd certainly recommend Doctor PC in Richardson vs. the big boys at a chain store. He fixed it for about a 1/3 of the cost that the others wanted to charge. If you need his services, his number is 972.235.DRPC (3772).

In addition to the slight ice that we got on Monday/Tuesday, we also had our main computer go down. And, it went down hard. A hard drive failure made for a little more work than I planned. After a long evening, I realized that it might be beyond my level of expertise. While I'm going to give it another attempt, it looks like we might be upgrading our computer at the store. Thankfully, there is a backup laptop that we were able to get all of the necessary programs onto yesterday. So, it was a ...

Speaking Out

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pumpkin, Toffee Coffee, Peach, and Very Berry. Chocolite Bars: Buy 3 Cases (48 bars), get a free 15 dollar yogurt card. Two weekends left for your holiday shopping. One of our customers just asked us if it would be OK to pick the chocolates and other snacks up now or if she should wait. The answer is now if you want to make sure that we have it. Unless you are planning on giving bakery items for Christmas, the other gifts will all be fresh and good for Christmas. I looked last night at new speakers for our computer at home. Boy, does this get confusing. After three hours of research, I came to the conclusion that if you're not looking to spend a lot of money, you're going to end up on the short side of sound on either the high, mid, or low range depending on the set. The good news is that many of the middle priced speakers ($50 to $100) actually seem to get pretty good reviews despite their reported shortcomings. Since w...

This is the last sale rack day until next year, so come in and get some great savings. Well, it took about 4 and 1/2 hours yesterday, but I finally got the KIS program installed. Once I found the right program to remove the reminants of McAfee, it was a relatively simple process. Finding the right program was not. After I got the work computer up and going, I went on to the laptop computer and a home computer. I felt like I was working in IT yesterday. The good news is that it is all working well and the program, once installed, is easy to use. All told: 10 hours spent upgrading 3 computers. Quiz Day: Cupcake Test ! I didn't plan on starting my day like this, but I'm currently fight with the Kaspersky Internet Security installation program. Despite the fact that I can't find any remnants of McAfee after going through the removal program and then hunting done the hidden files, the new security suite is convinced that it is still on the computer. It looks like my 30 minute project has turned into an all day affair. Joy. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to them.

3.0 Mbps

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Toffee Nut, and Lemon. Gnu Bar Special: Buy two cases (32 bars) and get a 10 dollar yogurt gift card free. We're up and running now with our new DSL internet connection. Thanks to Stephen's work yesterday, we should be able to operate a wireless network within the store. It's been nice not having to wait one minute for each page to download. Although, there are a lot more ads than I normally would see. The use of high-speed internet at work does allow us to do a little more with the blog. However, we're going to keep it at a dial-up pacing for the immediate future. I know all to well how frustrating it can be going to websites that operate far outside the reach of the technology with which you are working.

Switched

Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Maple Nut, Marshmallow and Pumpkin. You have three days until Valentine's Day. If you haven't picked up a gift yet, now is a great time. We still have a wonderful selection of our hand packed chocolate hearts. Make sure to come in while you can still get the heart you want for the heart you want to capture. We've had to switch to the new blogger today. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I do know it was a little bit of a hassle to switch. We will see if it is any better. I think for what we do, it doesn't really matter. I just know that the option was switch or no blog.

I've got to admit, it is hard not to talk about baseball. I love this time of year and Derek Jeter's performance last night was outstanding. Nevertheless, I will try and refrain. Just know I may occasionally slip up. I know not everyone likes sports, but if you do, then I'm sure that you can understand. Good news on the computer front. My friend has informed me that I shall soon have my computer back and able to run Myth TV (TIVO type application). I am looking forward to putting this in action and recording Veronica Mars which started last evening. If you’re not a fan of this show, start watching. It is great. I'm also excited about ripping all of my CD's to the computer and having an actual Juke Box in my living room. It will be nice to have everything set up. The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Cappuccino, Peanut Butter, Angel Food Cake and Orange Vanilla. Today is Cone Day! All cones are $1.85 (regularly $2.72). Foreign Language

Last night, I took my newly built computer over to my friend’s house to see if he could figure out why my mouse pointer was not showing up on the screen after the loading of Fedora. He knows computers very well, while I know about computers. Watching him work and type in code was like watching a French film with subtitles in the French language on x2 speed. Every now and again, I would spot something that looked familiar and then I would blink and it was gone. Assuming that the corrections work, I will soon have a new world opened to me in the form of the Linux operating system and will therefore have to learn a new language. If it doesn't, it looks like it is back to the chains of Microsoft. :( The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Chocolate Raspberry, Marshmallow, French Vanilla and Banana Macadamia Nut. Today is $1.85 Cone Day (regularly $2.72). The bagels have arrived! We currently have a full stock of all bagels (Blueberry, Cinnamon, Onion, Sweet Wheat,...

It's Alive!

Image
About a month ago, I began in earnest the effort to build a media computer from scratch. Over the first few weeks in September, I acquired all of the necessary parts. For a week they set in there boxes at my apartment until this Sunday. I started and almost completed my computer on Sunday. Monday, my friend who knows a lot more about computers than myself, came over and checked over the connections and dropped of the Linux OS. After he left, I made a few changes and connected the remaining wires. At 1:15 AM, I took a deep breath and flipped the power switch on the back...nothing. You can only imagine my disappointment. However, the feeling of despair lasted no more than a second as I quickly realized that in my nervousness, I forgot to press the front power button. Deep breath again...press button...the computer quietly hums to life right before my eyes. In another few days, I hope to have the software uploaded and a fully functional media computer to take the place of my Xbox. The Yog...

Beautiful Day

Wasn't that hot weather all worthwhile? The heat wave that brought the summer to a close has given way to wonderful autumn weather. It looks like the old AC has seen the end of its use at my apartment for the time being. With the cold of winter still a few months away, I look forward to some savings in the electric bill over the fall months. There is nothing better than being able to air out the home during these perfect days. I am hoping to complete my weekend project this evening and finish building my new media computer. It was a fun, if not somewhat nerve racking, experience to put the media PC together yesterday from scratch. It is the first time that I have ever done any detailed work in a computer, and I can see way my friends have told me that they all hate building them. I just hope that I can share in the joy of having a new, working computer that I have built with my own hands. The Yogurt Flavors: Chocolate Decadence, World Class Vanilla, Pistachio, German Chocolate Cake...
