Erica and I joined the digital age two nights ago. We picked up our converter box at Target for 10.81 after the government coupon and tax was applied. After plugging it into the TV, we immediately noticed the slightly improved picture quality and several new channels. (Included a nice weather channel set from Channel 5.) Of course, we also lost several channels as well. The new converter box has a lot of nifty little features like program guides and digital sound. However, the squiggles and fuzz of the old analog set-up has been replaced with the garbled pixels of the digital age. I for one prefer slight fuzz to a constantly rearranging pixel set. I have a feeling that, when the masses get converted, there will be a lot of talk about this. I'm not sure that the digital age will be all that it is crack...

Most people who read this blog probably believe that my week consists of trivia, reading, sports and work. They would be partially correct. I've got a fairly set schedule of events because my friends thankfully keep me busy. When I'm resting at home, I try to use my time wisely and do some reading. I try to avoid the TV trap by watching only a few shows. One of the shows that I watch is Sports Center. During this time of year when the baseball season is at the high point of its pennant and wild card races and the football season is just beginning, I cannot stand sports center on the weekends. Let me just say that I love college football and I like the NFL. Nevertheless, you never get more than a few minutes of baseball coverage in each show when there are football games that have been played. It drives me crazy to have to sit through 45 minutes of football for 5 minutes of incomplete baseball coverage. I guess everyone has there burdens. Trivia update: We finished in the middle...

I watched a television show last night called Space Race: The Untold Stories on the National Geographic Channel. It was a step by step story of the race to the final frontier from the capturing of the German scientists at the end of World War II to the last steps of man on the moon in the 20th century. The U.S.S.R. put the first man into space by brute force. In fact, the first man into space, Yuri Gagarin, only had a 50% chance of surviving lift off. The numbers of disasters that the American space program faced were well documented by the press; however, they pale in comparison to the number of disasters that were covered up by the U.S.S.R. To think that the space race started as nothing more than a desire by the Soviet Union to deliver a 5 ton nuclear warhead to the United States of America and ended with sending men to the moon.
